Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 231: Chapter 50: The Restless Dwarves, Steadfast as the Rocky Valley

”That’s a Nature Warlock who can awaken Treants! Even in the Forest of the Elves, there aren’t many elves who can do that anymore.” His companion replied, ”Such elves, once they appear, are taken away by the Royal Family, taught for a few years, and then sent to guard towns. How could they possibly come out and compete with humans over the control of plants?”

”If only elves could turn into warlocks too. There aren’t even any villages left now, they’ve almost all disappeared.”

”The Cticatluti Priest has already sent a message back. Our main task is to watch him and prevent the humans from hiding him away.”

”Humans don’t understand these things and really don’t care about nature’s fury. Such an important Nature Warlock living alone in such a remote place and he doesn’t even have any protective army.”

So among the elves, those who can summon Treants are already so few that they need to be protected by an army?

But isn’t that within the Forest of the Elves? Who could threaten them?

List silently estimated, as for these few watchers, he let them be.

They were living here in the wind and dew, probably getting more information than others who could not watch the Undead Tribe live.

He bowed gently to Lily of the Valley to thank her and instructed her to continue monitoring these two places.

List had already notified Hill who had finished his retreat, preparing to go back and discuss the matter of the elves with him.

As for Lina, as the original boss, Hill had already been very generous. As long as Hill didn’t mind, no one would think that their family would influence Hill.

Just as List was about to dissipate, Lily of the Valley suddenly jerked the vine several times, the bells chiming loudly, attracting List’s attention, and then a silver bell was handed over. It seemed to be an urgent situation.

List was surprised, who else could it be?

”The long-eared ones, the ones scouting, is it that warlock?”

”Yes, they say he is a Nature System who can summon the Tri-Element of Earth, Wood, and Water elements, and his territory even has Treants.”

Listening to the Dwarvish language, List felt fortunate that after Hill became a warlock, he could directly learn so many languages.

”Actually, the dwarves could try communicating with this warlock; he must have a lot of materials.”

”Forget about it! Those fools only value the Metal System; they understand nothing! Removed from the earth and solely studying metal, the path of the Dwarves is nearly at its end!”

”You shouldn’t be speaking like that. You’re clearly a Shield Hammer Warrior, yet you’ve been sent to track with us minor warriors. Haven’t you learned your lesson yet?”

List mentally calculated, according to the Dwarves, Knights go up against Hammer Warriors, Grand Knights are Shield Hammer Warriors, and Sky Knights are Shield Hammer Heroes.

Even in the Dwarf Kingdom, this was considered a noteworthy rank, to be dispatched for such a minor task indicated that he was indeed a minority among Dwarves, one of those ostracized.

In Hill’s case, all the spies that came and went were at best Archmages, and those without any hope of advancement.

The Dwarves fell silent for a while.

Then the Shield Hammer Warrior spoke up, ”This human lives all around the mountains, can’t we just find a place to dig in?”

”Our task is to watch the elves, don’t stir up trouble!” his companion became agitated, ”We are not like you; even if something goes wrong for us, it doesn’t matter! To dwarves, what does nature even mean?”

”Metal is also a part of nature!” the Shield Hammer Warrior said dejectedly.

”Do you see nature acknowledging that?”

”Logically, isn’t gold in the earth?”

”Don’t talk to us about that kind of stuff! We don’t have the ability to listen!”

The voices of the Dwarves grew louder, and List thought the elves must be aware of these beings following them, but as long as they were not humans, they didn’t care about the dwarves’ attention on Hill.

After waiting a while and not receiving much new information, List bid Lily of the Valley farewell.

At the sounds of the elves, List knocked on Hill’s study door. Thus, Hill had already washed up and was sitting in the study waiting for him.

List remembered Adrian mentioning that each time Hill finishes a task, or was about to start something, he always insists on taking a bath, which is quite peculiar.

Normally, mages typically use Cleansing Spells, and their clothes always have a self-cleaning magic embedded.

Only Hill, as if the Cleansing Spell would be meaningless without rinsing with water first.

List also didn’t know what to tell Adrian, could he say that for Hill, who has come from a background of Earth-Wood Element, facing wind and rain daily, covered in dust, taking a hot water bath was truly an indispensable part of life, one of the most delightful rewards after work, and along with fine dining, they made up most of Hill’s daily routine after work.

In the end, he could only tell Adrian that it was a habit formed in the castle, a mark left from four years of noble life.

Hill turned to List and asked, ”Why have both the dwarves and the elves come?”

”The dwarves came following the elves, but they are very impulsive. I am worried that they might really dig into the valley. Should we ask the Earth Elementals to strengthen the mountains further?”

Hill couldn’t help but laugh, ”No need. The mountains around the territory, the middle layer has already been turned into obsidian by the Earth Elementals, they think this enhances the effects of the Defensive Magic Array. Any further transformation would harm the plants in the outer soil layer.”

Although List knew this, he was still worried, ”There is a Shield Hammer Hero, he must be very good at mining.”

”Don’t worry, even Legendaries wouldn’t be able to mine silently into the area.”

”What should we do about the elves?” List was a bit worried, as the elves seemed to place too much importance on Hill.
