Apocalypse Gachapon

Chapter 2060: Battle potential (2)

The intelligence obtained was that there were 5,500,000 parasites in Mei City. This did not mean simply having the Exquisite Floating Balls take some photos, and everyone making an estimate to arrive at.

That would be too irresponsible, completely treating the lives of Cloud Peak people as a joke.

That conclusion was reached after many rounds of continuous reconnaissance, identification, and analysis.

Although Mei City was already a ruined city, many buildings remained. The parasites would not obediently stay in open areas for you to count. Inside various buildings, many, many were hidden. If only looking from the outside, having one or two million would be impressive.

Five million five hundred hundred thousand, that was the figure estimated through multiple comparative analyses and even deliberate provocation and luring.

But now, apart from a large number of parasites gathering at the cityʼs edges, there were even more in the dark corners of the city that had not yet appeared. Xia Lei was waiting for the moment they would emerge.

When the battle began, these creatures frantically rushed out of their hiding places, charging into the surrounding area. The magic crystal cannons also began to roar at that moment.

The annihilation-type magic crystal cannons had the longest range, so they were responsible for the central part of the city. The other magic crystal cannons placed their firing points in other areas in layers.

Currently, Cloud Peak used level-six magic crystals as energy for the annihilation-type magic crystal cannons. At a time when the average level of post-apocalyptic evolved was only five stars, this was considered extravagant.

However, the intensity and continuous firing rate provided by level-six magic crystals also greatly increased the power of the annihilation-type magic crystal cannons. With each shot, standing at high points outside the city, one could almost see the flying flesh and blood inside the city.
During the initial, most intense volleys, everyone could see large swaths of the city being cleared of parasites. The scene was very shocking and satisfying. The disappearance of parasites in each area meant that at least hundreds of enemies died. In this battle, where life and death were at stake, it evoked uncontrollable excitement.

Later, due to different firing rates, the various magic crystal cannons could no longer volley fire together, so the visual effect looked somewhat worse.

”Let the musicianʼs treasures enter the battlefield.” Xia Lei looked down at Mei City from above and continued to give orders through the Battle Contribution Medal.

Following her command, numerous tall or mighty machines entered the battlefield, accompanied by Cloud Peak-affiliated soldiers who began their performance.

Among these large machines, the ones most familiar to those with some understanding of Cloud Peak were the War Fortresses.

However, the current War Fortresses were completely different from those in their previous impressions.

The previous War Fortresses were obtained from the Resistance Zone. Cloud Peak did not have the technology or capability to manufacture such technological products. For the initial period, the maintenance and simple repairs of the War Fortresses gave Cloud Peak quite a headache.

Later, the situation gradually improved as more relevant talent joined. Led personally by Le Dayuan, a true master-level figure, the research focus shifted from magic crystal weapons to mechanical fortresses. By today, in this aspect, Cloud Peak had surpassed the Resistance Zone, becoming truly the strongest.

Today, over fifty various types of War Fortresses participated in the battle! Among them, twenty were original models, i.e., improved but not deviating from the previous design philosophy. The rest included those robots that only Ye Zhongming could perfectly pilot, resembling Gundams; those specialized in long-range firepower suppression, called ʼMetal Stormsʼ by everyone; the ʼShanmenʼ-type functional robots with solid bodies and immense strength responsible for assault; and those that broke through previous concepts, completely abandoning human form, instead based on the blueprint of Big Yellow to create purely close-combat mechanical beasts.

Although War Fortresses at Cloud Peak were still far from an explosion of ideas and technology, and the variety was not yet in a state of blooming diversity, this was only compared to themselves. Compared to other factions, Cloud Peakʼs technology in this area was already far ahead.

The War Fortresses entering the battlefield immediately elicited high-pitched cheers. Apart from combat power far exceeding ordinary evolved, the psychological impact these large combat machines could produce was also considerable.

Their every movement, every attack, could be seen by all evolvers around due to their tall bodies. It was a stimulation of mental state. The lives taken by their attacks, the splattered limbs and body parts, were like stimulants, driving the evolvers fighting alongside them into a frenzy.

After long-range attacks, the long-range attackers leaped down from the high platforms, following behind other soldiers to attack. At the forefront of the battle line, many evolved had already charged into Mei City.

”V3-type grenade rocket launchers, ten volleys.”

Xia Lei issued another command. Behind the vanguard forces in each direction, countless one-meter-long rockets with beautiful tail flames immediately rose. They swayed as they flew towards Mei City, reached their highest point, and, during descent, rapidly decomposed into three slightly smaller and thinner projectiles, scattering like flowers falling from the sky into the parasite swarms. Explosions immediately sounded, though the rising flame colors were not all the same: some were normal fiery red turning into thick black, some were ice-blue, some were deep green, and some were yellow-orange.

This battle contribution weapon, which had long been in service at Cloud Peak, had now reached its third generation. The price of each launcher was naturally much higher, and the used attribute-carrying split rocket warheads were also quite expensive. But Cloud Peak had obtained too much battle merit through Battle Contribution Medals. Even after upgrading to purple grade, they could still purchase large quantities of this very effective weapon. This time, Cloud Peak transported 8,000 units in total, each rocket launcher equipped with 50 different rockets.

Under Xia Leiʼs command, the eight thousand V3-type grenade rocket launchers fired ten consecutive volleys. Each split warhead could become three rockets. A total of two hundred forty thousand fairly powerful rockets exploded within Mei City. Various small mushroom clouds rose, momentarily overshadowing the might of the magic crystal cannons.

Even if each rocket killed only one parasite, in that instant, 240,000 parasites were killed.

From Xia Leiʼs perspective, she could see that in certain areas, the number of parasites had indeed decreased significantly.

But there was not a trace of a victorious smile on her face; instead, her brows were tightly furrowed.

”Release the Thunderbolt Electric Insect Nets, airdrop the self-destruct gene soldiers, air force troops prepare!”

Xia Leiʼs voice rose a few tones. In her field of view, over a dozen Exquisite Floating Balls, originally high above, monitoring the overall situation, began to descend rapidly. When they reached about two hundred meters above ground, hatches opened below, and each released hundreds of small black spheres. They began to glow as they fell. Thousands were scattered unevenly above Mei City. At about fifty meters above ground, they burst with a ʼbang,ʼ turning into large black nets flashing with electricity, descending towards the parasite swarms below.
