Apocalypse Gachapon

Chapter 2033: Three direct branches

Yaohan Suʼs hands slowly fell to his sides, and the nearly frenzied energy around him gradually dissipated.

The spot where he stood was already covered in cracks.

His wife came over with a smile, handed him a towel, and let him wipe the sweat from his forehead.

”If you cultivate at this frequency, the clan will go bankrupt from repairing the floor.”

Hearing his wife say this, Yaohan Su laughed heartily. After wiping his sweat, he said, ”Iʼve already reimbursed the clan with my own remuneration. If they dare ask me for money, Iʼll beat them up!”

His wife also laughed. ”Yes, yes, youʼre amazing. Now, no one in the entire Su Race can defeat you.”

”Of course!”

Yaohan Su showed no modesty.

As the Clan Leader of the Su Race, Yaohan Su was not considered a genius figure in the past. All he could do was perfectly utilize two of the Ten Great Arrays.

Throughout history, Clan Leaders of his level numbered not a thousand, but at least eight hundred. Although not particularly weak, they definitely belonged to the medium-to-low tier.
Truly exceptional figures should at least master five or more of the Ten Great Arrays!

Until... he developed the Following Array.

No matter who it was—current Su Race members or even if past Su Race Clan Leaders and most powerful figures jumped out of their coffins—none could deny this was an era-defining innovation for the Su Race.

This meant that the Su Raceʼs weakness in random combat disappeared. They, like other racesʼ beings, would no longer fear chance-encounter battles, and this was based on maintaining their racial characteristics.

Yaohan Suʼs invention of the Following Array was undoubtedly a sign of the Su Raceʼs revival.

This also allowed this Clan Leader, who was previously at most ranked among the top ten in combat power within the clan, to leap to become the undisputed number one.

If it werenʼt a contest of arrays, Yaohan Su could fight any clan elder and win overwhelmingly. Even in array contests, after successfully mastering the Following Array, his Furelai increased rapidly, and he no longer feared anyone. Now, his mastery of the third of the Ten Great Arrays had exceeded 80%, and the rest had also exceeded 50%.

He walked to the dinner his wife prepared, sat down, and started eating while saying, ”That Novice first place from the Star-Eye Clan has arrived, right?”

”He has arrived.” His wife also ate with him, but she glanced at her husband and said, ”You seem quite focused on him.”

Yaohan Su laughed and denied it. ”Who said that? I just casually asked.”

His wife put down her utensils and said with a half-smile to her husband, ”From the time this person and Jie Su won the Novice battlefield together until just now, over these past few months, you have mentioned this name eight times in total. The last five times were after Jie Su returned this time. In such a short period, you mentioned a non-Su Race person five times. Isnʼt that being quite focused?”

”If it were some important figure, that would be one thing, but itʼs precisely this minor figure from a small race, with a Furelai of only a few thousand. Do you think this is normal?”

Facing his wifeʼs questions, Yaohan Su didnʼt mind. He also put down his utensils and said, ”Alright, I admit I am a bit interested in this guy, but this interest isnʼt in him personally.”

His wife fell silent for a moment, then said, ”Youʼre becoming discontent, arenʼt you?”

”Should I be content?” Yaohan Su retorted.

”Is this why you want to cultivate Jie Su as your successor? Do you know what kind of huge waves this idea would cause within the Su Race if it got out? Because you are deviating from tradition, deviating from the rules. You would... have no support.”

His wife looked at her husband with concern. She didnʼt want things to get out of hand.

The Su Race seemed to be the most united among the three major factions, but internally, there were also crises. The biggest crisis was the inheritance system from ancient times to the present.

The Su Raceʼs direct lineage actually had three branches. Each of these three branches had the right to aspire to the position of Su Race Clan Leader. These three branches had also been using this rotational system for Clan Leader succession. Unless under extremely special circumstances, this was an unshakable principle.

Once anyone touched this rule, they would inevitably infringe upon the interests of the other two branches, leading to many unexpected events.

”The rules set by our ancestors were not like this. It was just that later people, for the peace of the clan, created this weird institution through mutual compromise,” Yaohan Su said, feeling frustrated in his heart. He knew he was a beneficiary of this rule, but now he was dissatisfied with this system. If spoken aloud, everyone would doubt his motives.

But while others didnʼt think much of it, Yaohan Su always believed that the Su Race had reached a time when reform was absolutely necessary; otherwise, they would be淘汰 like those small races, it was just a matter of time. However, everyone in the clan seemed unaware of this point, still content with small gains, preferring peace and safety, like a turtle retracting its head.

If this continued, the Su Race had no future.

Now, Yaohan Su had finally found someone with the will to change the status quo: Jie Su from his own branch.

Through contact, Yaohan Su discovered that Jie Su not only shared his aspirations but also had exceptional talent.

But because Yaohan Su was the Clan Leader, the next term, even the term after that, would not be his branchʼs turn to take over the Clan Leader position. If they just waited like this, Jie Su probably wouldnʼt be able to ascend to power even by the time he died.

In this situation, Yaohan Su could not help but have other thoughts.

However, he himself also knew that once his ideas were exposed, he would face immense pressure within the clan. Even... after he taught the Sui Array to Jie Su, some people had already begun preparing for this situation. This could be seen from the cooperation with the Star-Eye Clan this time. Some people opposed it purely for the sake of opposition. Their goal was undoubtedly to cut off Jie Suʼs external helpers.

Even if... it was just a small Star-Eye Clan.

He understood his wifeʼs concerns, but the invention of the Following Array also gave him courage.

”Convention, sometimes is more powerful than any force. You actually understand this. Wasnʼt that meeting about whether to support cooperation with the Star-Eye Clan a warning to you? If you continue, their resistance will become increasingly fierce.”

His wifeʼs voice rose a bit. Deep down, she didnʼt support Yaohan Su either. Wouldnʼt it be good if the Su Race could live peacefully? Why take risky paths?

Yaohan Su waved his hand, somewhat impatient, but his relationship with his wife had always been good. Patiently, he said, ”I just have this thought; it doesnʼt necessarily mean I will act on it. Letʼs see the situation first.”

His wife looked at her husband and didnʼt say anything more. Instead, as in many previous years, she silently began clearing the utensils from the table.

Yaohan Su looked in a certain direction. Over there, beyond Su Tower, was the guest house.
