I Married the President

Chapter 377: Chapter 377: No Comparison, No Harm

Phoebe Lockwood must have remembered something, because tears began to fall uncontrollably. They streamed down her face as she sobbed, ”My dad’s not well. What if he has a heart attack in there? This is all your fault. I hate you! Claire Sinclair, I hope you die a horrible death!”

After her outburst, she turned, walked to her desk, and started packing her things with her head down.

Claire Sinclair frowned. ’I have a strange feeling about this.’

Phoebe Lockwood’s entire family was strange, to be sure, but it was obvious they were a close-knit group.

Still, Phoebe was lucky to have parents who doted on her so much.

’Thinking about my own situation... it’s the comparisons that hurt.’

Claire Sinclair sighed. A motherless child had to be self-reliant. ’I have to work even harder.’

Once Phoebe Lockwood finished packing, she left. Her dejected figure left her colleagues speechless for a long time, and an unprecedented gloom fell over the office.

Claire Sinclair couldn’t be bothered with such trivial matters and got to work.

Just as she was about to start writing her article, her phone suddenly rang.

The caller ID read: Harrison Lynch, President of Demar Group.

Harrison Lynch was a client she had interviewed once at a charity event. Their relationship was purely professional.

For the past few days, Demar Group had been plagued by negative press. Rumors online claimed Harrison Lynch was keeping several mistresses, one of whom was an under-eighteen high school student named Yvonne Judd.

One day, Yvonne Judd discovered she was pregnant and went to Harrison Lynch to demand official recognition. However, she was discovered by Lynch’s wife. In the end, not only did she get nothing, but she was supposedly driven to commit suicide by jumping off a building.

Yvonne Judd’s parents exposed the story online, capturing the nation’s attention. However, the ”media” that helped spread the story was just a marketing account with a large number of followers, which suggested that parts of the truth had almost certainly been covered up.

In short, the drama surrounding Demar Group changed daily, with fierce discussions online. Harrison Lynch had become public enemy number one, reviled by everyone. Demar Group’s stock had plummeted, and the company was on the verge of bankruptcy.

’Why is this Harrison Lynch guy calling me all of a sudden?’

Claire Sinclair answered the phone, puzzled. ”Hello?”

”Reporter Sinclair, I’m at my wit’s end. You have to help me.”

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ”President Lynch, what happened?”

”I can’t explain over the phone. Let’s meet in person. I have a very important story to break.”

’Meet in person?’

As a reporter, Claire Sinclair felt an obligation to end the ceaseless and meaningless discussions online. Having this kind of story trending every day was a bad influence on society.

But something about meeting in person felt off. It was just a gut feeling.

With that in mind, Claire Sinclair politely refused. ”President Lynch, if you have a story, just tell me over the phone. I’m very busy. I don’t have time to go over there.”

”Then... I’ll just find you after you get off work.”

Her stomach dropped.

The call ended.

Claire Sinclair stared at her phone. ’What’s with this guy?’

’Whatever. I can’t be bothered.’

After a busy day, Claire Sinclair didn’t head home right away. Instead, she stayed in the office to work on her novel and build up a backlog of Chapters.

She didn’t have much time and needed to write as quickly as possible for an upcoming mass release to reward her readers.

After writing over 4,000 words, she checked the time and saw it was already 8:30 PM. Claire Sinclair finally shut down her computer and left.

As she walked out of the building, on her way to find the private car Adrian Quincy had sent to pick her up, a man in a face mask suddenly blocked her path.

”Reporter Sinclair, I’m Harrison Lynch. Please, give me a few minutes. I have a story to break!”

He was so completely bundled up that if Claire Sinclair hadn’t recognized his voice, she almost wouldn’t have known it was Harrison Lynch.
