I Married the President

Chapter 376: Chapter 376: You Can’t Wake a Person Who Is Pretending to Be Asleep

What???

Claire Sinclair grew anxious. ”Teacher Hartwell, why are you firing me? Did I do something wrong?”

Henry Hartwell said with a wry smile, ”You haven’t done anything wrong. When I said ’fire you,’ I didn’t mean it in the literal sense. I want you to go somewhere with more room to grow.”

”You’re transferring me?” Claire Sinclair finally realized.

”I just wanted to get your opinion. Would you like to work at the television station? Of course, if you’re not willing, I can’t force you. Astoria Daily will always be your staunchest supporter.”

Claire Sinclair had grown accustomed to her life at Astoria Daily. When asked to go to the television station next door, she refused almost without a second thought. ”Teacher Hartwell, I don’t want to go to the television station.”

Henry Hartwell chuckled. ”Don’t be so quick to refuse. Go home and think it over. Astoria Television is also a place dedicated to justice. You can continue to fight for the disadvantaged there.”

Claire Sinclair refused adamantly. ”Even so, I don’t want to go. I don’t want to be in front of a camera.”

Hearing this, Henry Hartwell reminded her, ”You need to change that mindset. In the future, when Young Master Quincy becomes president, you two will have to be on camera frequently. It’s unavoidable. That’s why I’m suggesting you give the television station a try. Think of it as training.”

At this, Claire Sinclair finally understood his intentions and began to hesitate.

’If I become the First Lady one day, I can’t just hide behind the camera, afraid to make an appearance. I’ll have to face it eventually.’

’But... what do I do? I can’t bear to leave Astoria Daily.’

”Teacher Hartwell, I can’t bear to leave...”

”Haha, what is there to be sad about leaving? You’re just used to the environment here. Once you get to the television station, you’ll quickly fall in love with the feeling there. It’s every bit as good as our place.”

’Maybe Teacher Hartwell is right. I’m just used to the atmosphere at Astoria Daily. Who knows what it’ll be like at the television station?’

Claire Sinclair started to feel a little excited and said, ”Teacher Hartwell, you promised me a seven-day vacation before. So I’ve decided I’ll leave next year.”

”Next year is fine. I’ll mentor you for a few more months, then. But I’ve already taught you most of what I can. The rest will be up to you.”

Claire Sinclair was quite optimistic about it. ”No, no, that’s fine! Everything about you is pure gold, Teacher Hartwell. There’s still so much more I can learn from you!”

”Haha, you’ve gotten much bolder than the day you first started. Keep up the good work.”

”Mm-hmm. I’ll get back to work then.” Claire Sinclair walked out of the editor-in-chief’s office and saw Phoebe Lockwood walking in from outside.

The woman wore a sullen expression, and her face was grim. The dark circles under her eyes were especially heavy, a sure sign she hadn’t slept well last night.

When Phoebe Lockwood saw Claire Sinclair, she immediately walked up to her, her voice a little hoarse. ”Claire Sinclair, my father has been locked up. Are you satisfied now?”

Claire Sinclair was utterly baffled. ”Your father being locked up? What does that have to do with me?”

”If it weren’t for you, my dad would never have been investigated by Quincy Manor! Now he’s been suspended from his post, and I don’t know if he’ll ever be able to work again. This is all your fault! You’re the one who had Young Master Quincy get my dad arrested!”

Claire Sinclair found this absolutely ridiculous. ”Phoebe Lockwood, to call you an idiot would be an insult to the word itself. If you hadn’t insisted on framing me for your injury right when Mr. Quincy happened to see it, who would have known your father had problems? Your entire family brought this on yourselves. And now you have the nerve to blame me? Heh...”

’You can never wake a person who’s only pretending to be asleep. This idiot, Phoebe Lockwood, is a lost cause.’
