I Married the President

Chapter 370: Chapter 370: You Insist on Arresting Me?

The atmosphere at the Astoria Daily Press was incredibly tense.

Several plainclothes bodyguards stood guard at the entrance. Their expressions were ferocious, like malevolent gatekeepers, and they refused entry to anyone.

Inside the office, the few colleagues who had arrived early all had their heads bowed, not daring to even breathe too loudly.

At Phoebe Lockwood’s desk, Bernard Lockwood sat in his precious daughter’s chair, a dark expression on his face. He was flipping through a copy of *So Desperate to Love You, My Dear*, but he wasn’t actually reading it.

When Claire Sinclair reached the entrance and saw the two plainclothes bodyguards standing on either side of the door, her heart jolted, and a sense of foreboding washed over her.

’What happened so early in the morning?’

Claire Sinclair walked in and, from a distance, saw Bernard Lockwood sitting in Phoebe Lockwood’s seat, his expression grim.

When Bernard Lockwood saw her arrive, he immediately stood up, strode over, and said sharply, ”Claire Sinclair, did you or did you not push my Vera down last night?”

Claire Sinclair’s brow furrowed, and she said irritably, ”Governor Lockwood, where is this coming from?”

Bernard Lockwood said angrily, ”Don’t you try to deny it! Vera told me you pushed her down last night, causing a concussion. She’s still lying in a hospital bed right now!”

Claire Sinclair found this laughable. ”It was just the two of us in the office last night. So it’s whatever she says, goes? In that case, if I said she tried to hit me last night, would you believe me, Governor Lockwood?”

”Nonsense! My Vera has such a gentle personality. She would never hit anyone. Don’t you dare frame her!”

”That’s rich, Governor Lockwood. Your daughter can frame me, but I can’t frame her?”

Bernard Lockwood was furious. ”You— My Vera is already in this state! Why would she need to frame you?!”

”Heh...” Claire Sinclair was thoroughly amused. ”So what you’re saying, Governor Lockwood, is that just because she’s injured, she gets to frame me?”

”Enough of your nonsense! You harmed my Vera, and today I’m formally arresting you!” After speaking, Bernard Lockwood gave his men a look.

Claire Sinclair’s brow twitched slightly, but she felt no panic at all. On the contrary, she was perfectly calm.

’If this were the past, I probably would have been so scared my legs would have given out, right?’

’Heh... Sorry, but I’m not the person I used to be anymore.’

Just as the two plainclothes officers were about to touch her, Claire Sinclair suddenly shouted, ”Everyone, please take out your phones and record this!”

The other colleagues, who were just watching the spectacle, were stunned for a moment. They wanted to take out their phones but didn’t dare to move.

After all, the one giving the order was the governor.

Claire Sinclair frowned and said, ”Who does Governor Lockwood think he is? I have Adrian Quincy backing me. If I’m being framed, please help me by recording this. I’ll post the video online later so every netizen knows that Governor Lockwood is suspected of abusing his authority and making an arrest without a warrant.”

Hearing this, Hughes from the typesetting department silently took out her phone.

Hughes and Claire Sinclair were usually on good terms, and she believed Claire was innocent.

Seeing this, the other colleagues also hesitantly took out their phones and began recording.

The two plainclothes officers quickly grabbed Claire Sinclair’s arms and made a move to take her away.

Unhurried, Claire Sinclair said, ”Governor Lockwood, are you sure about this? You’re determined to arrest me?”

Bernard Lockwood sneered, ”Not only am I going to arrest you, I’m going to lock you up until justice is served for my Vera. Don’t even think about getting out of this!”

Claire Sinclair scoffed. ”Fine. In that case, please give me five minutes, Governor Lockwood. I can prove my innocence.”

”You— what did you say?” Hearing that she could prove her own innocence, Bernard Lockwood’s heart skipped a beat.
