I Married the President

Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Settling Old Scores

Phoebe Lockwood nodded, forcing a look of frailty into her eyes. ”I want to sleep. I’m dizzy.”

”Go to sleep, then. Get some rest.”

”Okay, Mom, Dad. Good night.” Phoebe Lockwood closed her eyes, her lips curling into a barely noticeable smile.

Claire Sinclair waited for about ten minutes before finally seeing the man she had been longing for. But she was so exhausted she couldn’t muster the energy to greet him.

Adrian Quincy walked up to her and scooped her into his arms, gazing down at her listless eyes. ”Sorry, I’m late.”

”It’s fine... I’m so sleepy...” As she spoke, Claire Sinclair nuzzled into his embrace like a clingy kitten.

His heart ached for her. Adrian Quincy kissed her on the forehead. ”Go to sleep. I’ll wake you when we get home.”

”Mmm...” Claire Sinclair closed her eyes, feeling completely at peace.

-

「The next morning.」

Claire Sinclair was startled when she woke up in Adrian Quincy’s arms.

”Y-You... why are you here?” ’I thought he went back to his own place after dropping me off last night!’

Adrian Quincy pulled her a little tighter, his voice a soft whisper in her ear. ”You were exhausted. I wanted to stay with you.”

Even if she couldn’t sense his presence in her sleep, he was content to be by her side, silently watching over her.

Claire Sinclair was deeply touched, her lips curling into a small smile. ”It seems you’re not too busy.”

”Hmm?” Adrian Quincy feigned confusion.

Claire Sinclair’s face flushed. Annoyed, she said, ”Get your mind out of the gutter! I just meant I wanted to find time to cook for you. We’ve been married for a while now, and you still haven’t had a single home-cooked meal from me.”

”How about tonight?”

”Okay, tonight it is!” Thinking it was almost time for work, Claire Sinclair tried to get out of bed.

Suddenly, Adrian Quincy grabbed her slender waist and pulled her on top of his flat stomach, his eyes glinting.

Claire Sinclair whispered, ”No, I’ll be late for work.”

”Claire, it’s not even seven. We have plenty of time.”

”No, no, your— Ah...!”

He gave her no chance to protest; the man’s desire already got the better of him as he pushed her down beneath him...

This just proved it: you really shouldn’t have a morning ”workout” with an energetic man, especially not in bed.

Claire Sinclair hurriedly packed her bag, not even having time for breakfast. She wished she could just fly to the newspaper office.

She’d already been late four or five times this month. If it happened again, her entire paycheck would be docked.

’It was all his fault...’

Claire Sinclair shot a resentful glare at the elegant man who was unhurriedly tying his necktie in the living room. ”Mr. Quincy, I’m going to be late!” she snapped.

”Alright. I’ll drive you in a minute.”

”What if there are paparazzi outside waiting to ambush us again?”

Adrian Quincy was unconcerned. ”Them getting in last time was my men’s failure. It won’t happen again. Don’t worry.”

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ”You have people stationed nearby?”

”Things are different now. I have to ensure your safety.”

”Oh...” ’As long as he isn’t monitoring me inside the apartment, I guess it’s fine.’

Adrian Quincy put on his suit jacket, wrapped an arm around her slender waist, and led her out the door.

After a twenty-minute drive, the car arrived at the base of Astoria Tower.

The moment the car stopped, Claire Sinclair bolted out. She was in such a rush that she’d forgotten to even grab her phone.

Adrian Quincy was about to tell the driver to take it up to her, but then he had a better idea. He already missed her, especially after their intimacy that morning, which had only deepened his fascination with her.

’This works out,’ he thought. ’I can visit an old friend while I’m at it.’
