Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1194: 1193 let me go

Yiyi raised her eyebrows smugly, ignoring the questioning look in Gu Kai’s eyes, opened the back door of the car, and sat inside.

”Yiyi, were you getting anxious? There was a traffic jam on the road just now, which delayed me a bit.”

After the car got back on the road, Fang Zhiwei turned to Yiyi sitting in the back seat and explained.

Yiyi smiled nonchalantly and said lightheartedly, ”Not at all, I just so happened to have some unfinished work. I stayed for an extra ten minutes or so.”

After speaking, she turned her gaze to Gu Kai, who was engrossed in driving, ”You and Sister Wei had a date, why didn’t you call earlier? Then I wouldn’t have waited for you.”

”Yiyi, Ah Kai and I didn’t have a date. A few days ago, a classmate’s father was admitted to Kangning Hospital. I went this afternoon to visit my classmate’s dad and happened to bump into Ah Kai after work.”

Fang Zhiwei’s face wore a gentle and soft smile. While she spoke, her eyes looked at Gu Kai next to her with affection.

After a brief pause, she continued, ”I heard Ah Kai mention that he was coming to see Tongtong, so I joined him.”

”Gu Kai, why don’t you drop me back at the office? I still have some work left undone. You and Sister Wei can take Tongtong out. I’ll be at ease.”

Yiyi’s words were met with a cold snort from Gu Kai.

”Is your work more important than Tongtong?”

Yiyi frowned, ”Of course not, how could work be more important than Tongtong. If it was just you taking care of Tongtong, I wouldn’t be at ease. But with Sister Wei here, why wouldn’t I be?”

”Yiyi, Ah Kai is much better at childcare than I am, especially with Tongtong.”

Fang Zhiwei said with a smile, trying to smooth things over, fearing they would start arguing after just a few words.

Yiyi knew well of Zhi Wei’s intentions and mustered a forced smile, ”Gu Kai, is that alright?”

”No, what if Tongtong starts looking for her mom halfway and I can’t soothe her? As far as I know, Ah Jin isn’t the type of demanding boss who would expect you to stay overtime and finish your work. If you really love your job, you can just go to work early tomorrow morning.”

Gu Kai clearly understood what Yiyi was up to.

She was trying to create an opportunity for him and Fang Zhiwei, but he certainly didn’t need her misplaced kindness.

That day, when Fang Zhiwei sent her and Tongtong home, he refused to believe Fang Zhiwei didn’t tell Yiyi that they had already broken up.

If he guessed right, Fang Zhiwei probably didn’t just tell Yiyi that they had broken up, but also chatted about other things.

The atmosphere among the three of them was inevitably a bit different.

However, for Gu Kai and Yiyi, having Zhi Wei there was not necessarily a bad thing. At least with Fang Zhiwei present, they couldn’t start an argument.

Throughout the ride, Fang Zhiwei and Yiyi chatted sporadically, while Gu Kai didn’t join in, focusing on driving.

Once they arrived at Bai Yiyi’s house, Gu Kai parked the car and said to Fang Zhiwei, ”Zhi Wei, just wait here in the car for a moment. I’ll go up and get Tongtong.”

”Or, you can wait down here and I can bring Tongtong down myself,” Yiyi suggested with a twinkle in her eye and a smile.

Gu Kai gave her a glance, and Fang Zhiwei replied with a smile, ”Alright, I’ll wait in the car. You go up with Yiyi to pick up Tongtong.”

Gu Kai got out of the car, ignoring Yiyi behind him, and strode into the residential complex. After telling Fang Zhiwei they’d be back down soon, Yiyi hurried after Gu Kai.

”Why aren’t you taking the elevator?”

Yiyi saw Gu Kai choosing the stairs over the elevator, so she frowned and followed him.

”You get dizzy in elevators, right? Taking the stairs won’t take much longer, which is perfect since I have something to tell you.”

Gu Kai turned his head with a smile that was not quite a smile at the corner of his mouth, however you looked at it, it seemed to be mocking.

Yiyi’s eyes flickered, surprised that he used her own words to block her, and she laughed dryly, ”It’s okay to take the elevator occasionally.”

”We’d better take the stairs.”

After saying that, Gu Kai took the lead on the staircase steps, and Yiyi glared at him from behind, following him up. After a few steps, she heard Gu Kai’s deep voice rise, ”Fang Zhiwei and I have long since broken up, so you don’t need to kindly create chances for her and me in the future.”

He emphasized the words ”kindly.”

Yiyi pretended not to hear his sarcasm and was about to act as if she also didn’t know he had broken up with Fang Zhiwei when Gu Kai suddenly turned his head to look at her. His profound eyes stared sharply at her, as if he could see right through her thoughts, causing her to shudder.

”Stop pretending, I know that Fang Zhiwei sending you home that day, she would have told you.”

Gu Kai directly voiced her thoughts.

Yiyi glared at him, defending herself, ”Did I say I didn’t know?”

”Since you know, why did you just say you wanted to go back to the office to work? What’s your intention, huh?”

Gu Kai leaned forward, resting one hand on the handrail beside him. Already just one step apart from Yiyi, his oppressive aura was confronting.

Yiyi’s heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively became wary.

”What intentions can I have? Gu Kai, I think Sister Wei is such a good woman; you should hold on tight to her. If you miss out, where can you find another woman who is as good to you as she is?”

Yiyi’s face displayed a forced smile. Gu Kai narrowed his eyes, the oppressive aura becoming even denser, ”Yiyi, you’re so concerned about me, couldn’t it be that you’ve fallen for me?”

”Haha!”

Yiyi suddenly laughed out loud.

After laughing twice, she realized they were in a stairwell and quickly covered her mouth with her hand, her eyebrows and eyes brimming with mirth, as if she had heard the most ridiculous joke, with a glimmer in her twinkling eyes.

Perhaps because the stairwell was too narrow, or maybe because they were too close, Gu Kai could smell only her scent around him – a faintly womanly fragrance that stimulated his nerves without reason.

His gaze fixed on Yiyi, and a hint of depth tinged his smile.

”What are you laughing at?”

His voice was a bit low. Yiyi blinked innocently, ”It was your funny joke that made me laugh.”

”Falling in love with me is a joke? Yiyi, I’m much better than those men you’ve met on blind dates. You’re not blind, and you don’t lack intelligence, so why do you think it’s a joke?”

Gu Kai suddenly reached out to grab her shoulders, pulling her towards him, and Yiyi exclaimed ”ah” as her body lurched forward towards him.

Gu Kai stepped down one step with his left foot, his wrist flipped, and effortlessly pinned Yiyi against the stairwell’s handrail. To maintain distance from him, she instinctively leaned back.

But Gu Kai leaned forward, aggressively moving closer, his hot male breath spraying on her pale cheeks. In an instant, the air in the stairwell seemed to be drawn out, a tinge of ambiguity spreading.

”Gu, Gu Kai, let go of me.”

Yiyi’s heart raced, her speech becoming disorganized.
