Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1190: 1189 Dad accompanies Tongtong, accompanies Mom

Gu Kai hesitated for a moment, but still agreed to Fang Zhiwei’s request.

When he proposed the breakup initially, he felt somewhat guilty towards Fang Zhiwei. After all, it was he who entangled Fang Zhiwei and ultimately suggested parting ways, hurting someone else in the process.

Fang Zhiwei took Gu Kai to a restaurant that had been open for just over three months, which was indeed quite good.

He had dinner and didn’t let Fang Zhiwei order too many dishes, nor did he reach for the chopsticks much himself.

Fang Zhiwei tried to make conversation by asking about the condition of a classmate’s father. Gu Kai told her that it was uncertain, as that disease currently has no successful cases in medical practice.

Gu Kai took out his phone to make a call.

Fang Zhiwei glanced at the phone in his hand and casually remarked, “You didn’t take a day off today? Didn’t you spend time with Tongtong?”

The call connected, and Bai Yiyi’s voice came through: “Hello!”

Gu Kai did not respond to Fang Zhiwei’s question but instead asked with concern, “Have you and Tongtong arrived home?”

“We’re home. I just bathed Tongtong, and she’s very lively right now, insisting on calling you.”

Gu Kai heard Tongtong shouting “Daddy, daddy” through the phone. Her tender, soft voice, full of a child’s innocence and excitement, came through the waves, curving his lips into an involuntary smile.

He envisioned Tongtong’s cute face up against the phone, a warm feeling rising in his heart. No wonder people say a daughter is her father’s past life lover.

“Tongtong, it’s time to sleep. Don’t stay up too late.”

While speaking to Tongtong, Gu Kai naturally softened his tone, a deep fatherly love evident which made Fang Zhiwei across the table feel an indescribable bitterness.

“Daddy, stay with Tongtong in her dreams.”

On the bed, Tongtong grabbed the phone from her mother’s hand to her ear, very alert after a nap.

“Tongtong, daddy is working. You shouldn’t disturb daddy’s work,” Bai Yiyi gently chided, a furrow forming between her brows.

Hearing Bai Yiyi’s words, Gu Kai hesitated briefly, then asked, “Tongtong, shall daddy pick you up later, and you stay at daddy’s place tonight?”

“Okay, daddy stays.”

Tongtong, being with mommy every day, of course cherished daddy more.

“Tongtong.”

Bai Yiyi looked at Tongtong’s radiant little face, feeling aggrieved at this little ungrateful wretch.

“Mommy, don’t cry. Daddy will accompany Tongtong and mommy.”

Tongtong looked up, seeing her mother looking distressed. She blinked and quickly reached out her hand to gently touch her mother’s face.

Bai Yiyi watched Tongtong with a tearful smile.

“Tongtong, daddy has to hang up now. I’ll come to pick you up in a bit.”

“Okay.”

Tongtong agreed obediently. Gu Kai then said, “Give the phone to mommy, daddy has something to say to her.”

Fang Zhiwei listened to Gu Kai talking on the phone, her food suddenly tasting bland.

A trace of bitterness spread through her heart, her lips pressed tightly as she told herself not to feel sad.

Gu Kai and Bai Yiyi had no feelings for each other; they merely had Tongtong. Bai Yiyi had said herself that she didn’t like Gu Kai.

“First, get Tongtong to sleep. If she can sleep, let her sleep; if not, I will come to pick her up later.”

After Tongtong returned the phone to Bai Yiyi, Gu Kai lightly instructed.

“I’ll put Tongtong to sleep. You go ahead with your business; no need to come.”

“I’m out eating something. At the latest, I’ll be there within an hour.”

Gu Kai paused slightly in his speech.

“Ah Kai, did you retract the condition you set for Yiyi back then?”

Fang Zhiwei saw that Gu Kai had hung up the phone and asked with a smile.

Gu Kai put away his phone and asked with confusion, “What condition?”

Fang Zhiwei chuckled lightly and said cheerfully, “The condition that you forbade Yiyi from getting married or being in a relationship. This morning, I originally wanted to find Yiyi and Tongtong to hang out, but Yiyi told me she’s together with the guy she went on the blind date with.”

“Oh, her mother spoke for her, so I agreed.”

Speaking of Bai Yiyi’s blind date, a hint of displeasure crossed Gu Kai’s eyes; Bai Yiyi even dared to say that Zhang Siming was better than him, Gu Kai.

“So that’s why, no wonder Yiyi said she was on a blind date, I found it strange. You don’t need to worry, Yiyi is such a smart woman, she will surely marry a man who is good to Tongtong.”

Fang Zhiwei seemed very happy for Bai Yiyi, and her smile was particularly radiant when speaking of Bai Yiyi’s blind date.

Gu Kai scoffed dismissively, “With Bai Yiyi’s taste in men, her finding a good man, that would be strange.”

“Ah Kai, you shouldn’t say that, I think you are biased against Yiyi. Are you still blaming her because of her father’s act of stealing Ranran back then?”

Fang Zhiwei suppressed her laughter, watching Gu Kai carefully.

Upon hearing this, Gu Kai’s expression suddenly changed.

“Ah Kai, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked you that. Pretend I never said it, let’s eat, let’s eat.”

Seeing Gu Kai’s change in expression, a hint of apology flashed in Fang Zhiwei’s eyes as she quickly picked up some food and placed it on the plate in front of him.

Gu Kai frowned slightly, his expression somewhat cold, “You eat, I’m not hungry.”

“Are you angry?”

Fang Zhiwei tilted her head, lightly pursing her lips as she looked at him.

Gu Kai leaned back into the chair, stating flatly, “Indeed, I have always disliked Bai Yiyi because of Fu Jingyi. Even though I know those incidents have nothing to do with her, but if it hadn’t been for Fu Jingyi stealing away Ranran, my mother wouldn’t have passed away so early either.”

“Ah Kai, I’m sorry.”

Fang Zhiwei looked at Gu Kai with a face full of apology.

Gu Kai controlled his emotions, slightly curling his lips, “It has nothing to do with you, no need to apologize.”

Because of this topic, the atmosphere between the two became somewhat strange. Fang Zhiwei, a woman who is usually elegant and confident in front of others, turned into a cautious young girl in front of Gu Kai, no longer speaking carelessly.

Until the meal was finished, neither Fang Zhiwei nor Gu Kai spoke again.

Seeing her put down her chopsticks, Gu Kai took out his wallet to pay the bill, but Fang Zhiwei hurriedly interrupted, “Ah Kai, let me pay.”

“No need.”

Gu Kai gestured, and the waiter came over.

As Fang Zhiwei watched him hand his card to the waiter and settle the bill, and as they walked out of the restaurant, she said, “You didn’t eat anything tonight, and yet you’re paying the bill. Next time, let me treat you.”

“It’s just a meal.”

Gu Kai smiled indifferently and walked towards the parking lot.

Fang Zhiwei walked beside him, her smile gentle and charming, “Even though it’s just a meal, I owe you a favor. There should be reciprocity, I should treat you back.”

Gu Kai glanced at her, “In the past, you cooked many meals for me, that’s far more significant than this favor.”

“That was different.”

Fang Zhiwei’s smile stiffened slightly, then quickly returned to gentleness, “Back then we were dating, I was your girlfriend, cooking for you was natural. But now, we’ve broken up, I don’t like being indebted.”

Upon reaching the parking lot, Gu Kai opened the car door and sat in the driver’s seat; Fang Zhiwei also opened the passenger door and sat down. As he fastened his seatbelt, he spoke softly, “We are still friends now, so a meal doesn’t mean much.”
