The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 198: Chapter 198 Are you so pessimistic about love?_1

”I’m going to use the restroom.”

”Okay!”

Carson Flores leaned on the glass railing of the shopping mall, took out his phone, and scrolled through short videos while waiting for Shirley Miller.

”Cough, cough...”

A bout of severe coughing drew Carson’s attention.

As Carson turned his head, he saw a man in his sixties, dressed in a Tang suit, violently coughing with his hand over his mouth. His face was crimson as if he was immensely distressed, looking like he might run out of breath and pass away at any moment.

Next to the old man stood a sensual young woman in revealing clothes with a slender figure, around twenty-five or twenty-six, patting the man’s back. As she slightly bent over, the large expanse of her pale chest became partly visible, drawing onlookers’ eyes.

Carson looked at the old man’s complexion, his brow furrowing slightly. This old guy seems quite ill.

Just as Carson’s gaze fell on the young woman, she, feeling his eyes on her, turned her head and snapped, ”What are you looking at, haven’t you seen a woman before?”

Carson was speechless. This woman was rather confrontational.

You dress like that, exposing half of your large pale chest. Anyone would take a second look, right?

If you’re afraid of being seen, then don’t wear such revealing clothes.

Crazy!

Carson replied indifferently, ”That must be your father. He has a lung problem, and it seems quite serious. You should hurry and take him to the hospital for a check-up. This coughing could lead to a serious issue.”

The young woman’s expression changed, and she yelled, ”He’s my boyfriend! It’s none of your business, mind your own!”

Boyfriend?

This old guy is pretty trendy.

Carson felt somewhat embarrassed and touched his nose, saying, ”Cough, my apologies...”

The young woman looked Carson over and huffed, ”You look so poor. Instead of worrying about others, you’d better go work some overtime and earn some more money. Otherwise, not even a country girl would want to marry you.”

Carson frowned. ”I was just kindly giving a reminder, but you’re being rather sarcastic and mean, aren’t you?”

The old man’s coughing subsided, seemingly getting a bit of relief, but he appeared to be extremely weakened. The young woman helped the old man sit down on a nearby seat and taunted, ”I’m just kindly warning you, mind your own business in this day and age.”

Carson didn’t want to argue with the woman and was about to leave when the sound of high heels clacking against the floor rang out. Shirley Miller approached, regal and extraordinary, naturally taking Carson’s arm, ”What’s wrong, husband?”

Carson smiled slightly, ”Nothing, just wasted my good intentions, as they say. Someone told me I look so poor that not even a country girl would marry me.”

Shirley Miller glanced at the woman opposite and said with a suppressed laugh, ”That’s because you dress so casually every day that you’re underestimated. Don’t be angry. There are many who judge by appearances... Come on, let’s go eat.”

Carson responded, ”Okay.”

The young woman watching this scene turned red with embarrassment. After all, regardless of appearance, figure, or demeanor, Shirley Miller was far above her, and judging by her dress and appearance, Shirley was undoubtedly a rich beauty from the north.

Just a moment ago, she had mocked Carson, sneering that he couldn’t even marry a country girl, and now she felt slapped in the face.

It stung.

”Husband, are you feeling better? Let’s continue shopping, the store is just ahead...”

The old man hummed in agreement, his gaze becoming profound when he looked at the woman, ”I’ll rest here for a while. Take the card, go buy it yourself.”

The woman’s eyes lit up, ”Really, husband? Can I buy a couple more sets of clothes? It’s almost time for the season change.”

”Buy!”

”Thank you, husband!”

The woman kissed the old man on the face, joyfully took the card, and trotted away in her high heels.

The old man watched her leave, his eyes revealing a trace of disgust.

Suddenly, his throat tickled, and he started coughing violently again.

Not far away, the woman’s footsteps paused for a moment, then quickened, as she made her way to the LV store up ahead, as if she hadn’t heard the forceful coughing behind her.

The old man coughed fiercely, the disgust in his eyes turning fierce.

...

”Thank you for saving me from that awkward situation.”

Shirley Miller withdrew her hand from Carson’s arm, smiling slightly, ”It’s nothing. I just couldn’t stand her sour attitude.”

Carson laughed, ”To be sixty and have a girlfriend in her twenties, some men never grow old at heart.”

Shirley Miller smiled, ”Men always remain young at heart, from eighteen to eighty. They like young beauties, and that doesn’t ever change. Judging by his demeanor, he’s probably just a rich man looking for fun, it doesn’t look like real love to me.”

Carson chuckled, ”Society is very pragmatic these days. There isn’t much love going around. Some people prioritize looks, then family background; some the other way around. Some only care about the family background, regardless of looks...”

Shirley Miller smiled, ”As long as you have money, right?”

Carson responded, ”As they say, poverty makes a hard marriage. Who doesn’t want a better life? Being attractive is an asset, a trade of resources based on mutual consent.”

Shirley Miller looked at Carson, pursing her lips, ”Are you that pessimistic about love?”
