The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 187: Chapter 187 I Just Took a Fancy to You_1

When Carson Flores was about to finish work, he received a call from Lydia Howell.

”Mr. Flores, this is Lydia Howell. Do you have time tonight? I would like to invite you for dinner,” she said.

Carson Flores chuckled, ”Has your injury healed?”

Lydia Howell answered, ”It’s mostly healed, thanks to Mr. Flores’s timely help in saving my life. Please allow me to express my gratitude and apologize for my previous disrespect towards you.”

Carson Flores smiled and was about to politely decline, but then he paused, thinking that he was about to confront the Miller Family in Seashore, and changed his mind.

Wasn’t Lydia Howell the Cultivator genius of the Howell Family?

At over thirty, undefeated throughout the Howell and Browning families, it took the special effort of Jamie Webb to defeat Lydia Howell. Clearly, she was indeed a Cultivator genius. If he could get her on his side, it wouldn’t be bad at all.

”Sure,” he agreed readily.

”Who will be there?” asked Carson Flores.

Lydia Howell replied, ”Just me, representing only myself.”

Carson Flores chuckled, ”If it’s just the two of us, then let’s have hotpot. I’ll give you an address; the taste there is good.”

Lydia Howell readily agreed, ”Sure.”

After work, Carson Flores made his way to the hotpot restaurant.

Lydia Howell was already there, having ordered a table full of dishes, waiting for Carson Flores.

”Miss Howell.”

Carson Flores took a seat opposite Lydia Howell, and after sizing her up, he smiled, ”You seem to have recovered nicely.”

Lydia Howell’s gaze towards the young man across her was complex—filled with gratitude, admiration, and a faint blush of shame.

It wasn’t because of male-female reasons, but because she previously had dismissed Carson Flores’s offer of help and even conveyed confidence in her own abilities while slighting his.

With drinks served, Lydia Howell raised her glass, ”Mr. Flores, this glass is for my previous disrespect towards you. Thank you for not holding a grudge.”

Carson Flores laughed, ”You wanted me to stay away and even reminded me to hide. It was all well-intentioned, so I’m not upset.”

Lydia Howell drank it down in one go, pouring herself another, ”This second glass is to honor Mr. Flores for saving my life. If not for you, I would have died then and wouldn’t have had the chance to sit here and drink.”

Carson Flores accepted graciously, ”Cheers!”

Lydia Howell spoke the truth. Carson Flores indeed had saved her life as well as the lives of many others from the Howell Family.

She finished the second glass and poured a third, ”This third one is to honor Mr. Flores for saving the entire Howell Family. From today on, Mr. Flores, any command you give will be my one word.”

Carson Flores watched her drink the third glass, clean and unhesitating, and smiled, ”What’s your level of strength?”

Lydia Howell replied, ”Inner Qi Great Circle.”

Carson Flores said approvingly, ”Not bad at all. You’re just one step away from transforming Inner Qi into Gang Qi.”

Lydia Howell responded with a wry smile, ”It’s said to be one step, but it feels like a world apart. You’re so young, yet you’ve already reached the realm where Gang Qi protects the body. I have a long way to go.”

Carson Flores asked, ”Want to break through that step?”

Lydia Howell’s eyes lit up, ”Do you have a way, Mr. Flores?”

Carson Flores nodded with a smile, ”If I ask, then naturally, I have a method.”

Lydia Howell blinked and asked decisively, ”Is there something you need me to do, Mr. Flores? Feel free to command me. Even if it costs me my life, it’s no issue.”

Carson Flores smiled, ”I’m going up against the Miller Family in Seashore.”

Lydia Howell was momentarily stunned before responding without hesitation, ”Okay, what do we need to do?”

Carson Flores shook his head, touched his glass to Lydia’s, and laughed, ”I don’t need the Howell Family to do anything, I simply took a liking to you.”

Lydia Howell’s expression turned slightly awkward, ”Me?”

Noticing Lydia Howell’s reaction, Carson Flores realized she had misunderstood. He explained with a smile, ”Don’t misunderstand, what I admire is your talent for Cultivation. I want to propose a trade. I’ll help you enter the realm where Inner Qi transforms into Gang Qi, and in return, you help me for a while. There might be danger, and you could even lose your life. You may think it over.”

Lydia Howell’s face flushed slightly; she had just thought Carson Flores had taken a personal interest in her.

Embarrassing.

She answered firmly, ”Mr. Flores, there’s no need to think it over, and no need for any trade. I already owe you my life.”

Carson Flores shook his head, ”The Miller Family is a powerhouse in the Seashore province, with strong Cultivators. If you haven’t reached the realm where Gang Qi protects the body, fighting the Miller Family could easily cost you your life. While it sounds like I’m helping you, I’m also helping myself.”

Lydia Howell, hearing Carson Flores’s words, no longer refused. With her outstanding talent in Cultivation stuck at the current realm for a long time without progress, she naturally wouldn’t pass up the opportunity for his help.

”Alright, you have my word. My life, Lydia Howell’s, is yours, Mr. Flores. I will follow any command you give.”

Carson Flores corrected her, ”There’s no need to be so formal; when you help me, we are not subordinate to one another, nor are we of different ranks. We are partners.”

Lydia Howell nodded readily, ”What do I have to do now?”

Carson Flores smiled, a hint of schadenfreude in it, ”Prepare to endure hardship and suffering. Advancing isn’t an easy task...”
