Samantha Tate’s cheeks flushed red as she explained indignantly, “That snake was so long, so big, and its colors so vibrant, you could tell it was venomous at a glance.

Who wouldn’t be scared?”

Carson Flores thought about it and agreed.

Alright, he couldn’t impose his own courage on others.

“Then take it easy, there’s no rush.”

Samantha Tate looked at the mountaintop close at hand, stamped her foot to calm herself, and said, “I’ll hold onto your arm, let’s go.

We can rest when we get to the top.”

“Sounds good!”

Carson Flores continued to lead the way while Samantha Tate held onto his arm, trailing a step behind him with caution.

Once they reached the top, Carson Flores casually picked some broad leaves and laid them on the grass, saying with a smile, “The view is nice, have a seat.”

Samantha Tate sat down on the broad leaves, her legs together and slanted, her long, fair legs drawing attention.

“Thank you, you’re quite considerate.”

Carson Flores smiled, “Discovered another one of my strengths?

But don’t fall for me because of it.”

Samantha Tate snorted, “In your dreams!”

After a pause, Samantha Tate curiously asked, “By the way, have you met your fiancée yet, the one from the arranged engagement?”

Carson Flores nodded, “I have.”

Samantha Tate immediately perked up, “How is she?

Is she very ugly?”

Carson Flores shook his head, “No, quite the opposite, she’s beautiful.”

Samantha Tate’s eyes widened in disbelief, “For real or are you just saying that?

You don’t need to be embarrassed and lie to save face, I won’t laugh at you.”

Carson Flores laughed, “I’m not lying to you, she’s really beautiful, and she actually resembles you.”

Samantha Tate asked, curious, “Like me?

Beautiful and comes from a good family?”

Carson Flores was actually referring to her appearance, but since Samantha Tate understood it that way and it didn’t seem too far off, he nodded, “Right.”

Samantha Tate’s face lit up with gossip-fueled interest, “So your fiancée isn’t repulsed by you?”

“Repulsed, yeah.”

Carson Flores responded frankly, “Out of respect for her grandfather, she didn’t say much, but privately she told me that she’s not interested in me.”

Samantha Tate laughed out loud, then quickly apologized, “Sorry, I’m not mocking you, it’s just that it seems kinda normal to me.”

Carson Flores didn’t feel offended and nodded, “Yeah, I understand.”

Samantha Tate stared into Carson Flores’ eyes as if trying to find signs of disappointment, but she found none—just serenity and peace.

“So what’s your situation with her now?”

Carson Flores casually plucked a wild grass, put it in his mouth, and leaned back on his hands, looking into the distance, “In front of her grandfather, we pretend to be a couple; in private, we leave each other alone.

Anyway, we’ve both agreed to act for three months, and after that, we go our separate ways.”

Samantha Tate snorted with laughter, “Pretend to be a couple?”

Carson Flores understood why Samantha Tate was amused and gave her a look, “Now you know why I didn’t want to pretend to be your boyfriend?”

Samantha Tate almost fell on the grass from laughing, “I get it, I get it.

At home, you have to pretend to be a husband, and outside you have to pretend to be my boyfriend.

Two gorgeous women, within sight but out of reach.

Is it terribly frustrating and suffocating for you?”

Carson Flores couldn’t be bothered to correct her, “As long as you know.”

Samantha Tate laughed heartily, “Suddenly I kind of feel sorry for you.

You’re so unlucky.”

Carson Flores’s eyes widened, “You dare to mock me?

Believe it or not, I’ll turn around and leave, and before I go, I’ll tell Ethan that you and I are just acting?”

“No, no, no!”

Samantha Tate hastily made amends, “It was just a joke, come on, don’t flip the table.

Besides, even though you’re pretending to be my boyfriend, look how good I am to you.

It’s just like it’s real.

I’ve never been this way to any guy before, ever since I was little…”

Carson Flores offhandedly said, “That’s all an act too, so let’s not bring it up.

But speaking of which, you aren’t young anymore, why not seriously find yourself a boyfriend?”

Samantha Tate pouted, twirling a wild grass around her finger, “Where would I find someone suitable?

Some are only after my looks and figure, others are after my family’s money.

I’m not interested in that kind of person.”

Carson Flores scoffed at Samantha Tate’s sentiments, “That’s such a princess complex, you need to get over it!

If you were broke and as ugly as a troll, not only would Ethan never chase after you, but even if you paid me to pretend to be your boyfriend, I wouldn’t do it!”

Samantha Tate grew indignant, “Can’t there be pure love?

Couldn’t someone just like me for who I am?”

Carson Flores was unsympathetic, “Pure love?

Not loving your looks, not loving your money, so what does he love then?

Your soft hands that never touch spring water, or your proud and tsundere princess personality?”

Samantha Tate was taken aback by Carson Flores’ words, her face turning red with anger, “Am I really that bad?”

Carson Flores, free of any guilt for being the bad guy, continued to throw his verbal Flying Daggers, “Think about it, if we set aside your family background, your figure, and face, do you have any appealing traits?

Kindness, competence, domesticity, or household management?”

Samantha Tate, fuming, grabbed Carson Flores’ arm, baring her neat, beautiful teeth, “You’re mocking me, believe it or not, I’ll bite you?”
