As my girlfriend, you’d definitely think I’m pathetic and useless, and you’d break up with me, creating an opportunity for him, right?”

Carson Flores replied nonchalantly, completely ignoring Samantha Tate’s mention of a ‘reward,’ “Just wait and see.

In these next couple of days, they’ll have plenty more tricks up their sleeves to target me.”

Looking at the calm Carson Flores, Samantha Tate asked curiously, “Aren’t you scared at all?”

Carson Flores laughed, “What’s there to be scared of?

I’m not really your boyfriend, am I?”

Samantha Tate glared, “You better not abandon ship and run away.

If you do, I’ll be left alone not knowing how to cope.”

Carson Flores casually laughed, “Even if I do run, I’d definitely take you with me.

Then I can just scowl and ask you fiercely, ‘I’m leaving, are you coming with me or not?’ You’d put on a wronged expression and follow me out, and that’d settle the matter, wouldn’t it?”

Immediately feeling more at ease, Samantha Tate laughed, “That could work.

You just need to act more domineering and barbaric, and I’ll follow you with a look of utter grievance, just like an oppressed little wife.

Ethan would be so mad he’d explode on the spot!”

Carson Flores laughed heartily, “Whether he explodes or not, I don’t know, but I’d bet that the moment we leave, he’d be running to tattle to your parents, complaining about how incompetent I am, how I can’t play fair, how I’m bullying you, how you’ve suffered.

Your dad already doesn’t like me, so it’ll give him a good excuse to meddle and get rid of me.”

Samantha Tate laughed so hard her body shook, her chest heaving along, “You’re wasting your talent not being a screenwriter!”

Carson Flores said with a smile, “That’s not out of the question, as long as someone pays.”

“You’re just obsessed with money, everything comes down to money with you!”

After teasing him, Samantha Tate added earnestly, “If they target you, just avoid the moves you’re not confident about.

I’ll help you out.”

“Okay!”

Mingyue Mountain was located two hundred kilometers north of Polgel City.

It was an undeveloped mountain range with dense forests and overgrown weeds, with a river cutting across the mountain range.

When they reached the foot of the mountain, Carson Flores stopped the car and laughed, “There’s no road ahead!”

“Carson Flores, impressive!

You left them far behind!”

Getting out of the car, Samantha Tate took out two bottles of drinks from the trunk and handed one to Carson Flores, full of admiration, “Your driving skills are good enough for a professional racer.”

Carson Flores took the drink with a smile but didn’t reply.

He found that although Samantha Tate had some pride as a rich girl, she wasn’t as difficult to deal with as he had imagined.

She didn’t act superior or bossy.

Pretending to be her boyfriend actually felt more like hanging out with a friend, which was quite pleasant.

Both were pretending, but Samantha Tate had actively chosen him as her fake boyfriend, so she was mentally accepting of the arrangement.

Plus, since he saved her grandfather, she was psychologically grateful and recognized him, whereas Shirley Miller had had no choice but to accept him because her grandfather had decided for her.

Although they shared a room at night, Shirley Miller would always wear long clothes, covering herself up tightly, as if afraid that something might be revealed.

Moreover, Shirley Miller was very alert when sleeping; the slightest noise would wake her up, which showed that she had never let her guard down around him.

Carson Flores and Samantha Tate rested for quite a while before Ethan’s convoy caught up.

Feeling victorious, Samantha Tate said, “Only now you arrive?

We’ve been waiting for you so long that we’ve already finished a bottle of water.”

Ethan’s face stiffened as he stared at Carson Flores, “Not bad driving skills.

Were you a motorized soldier before?”

Carson Flores smiled, “Nope, just played around with the steering wheel in my free time.”

Ethan’s face grew even darker.

What, are you saying that we’re not even good as amateurs?

“Bro, that’s pretty impressive.

Which unit are you from?”

Darian Marshman came over, extending his large hand that was like a fan, “Darian Marshman, served in the Sky Eagle Special Warfare Squad, discharged due to an injury.”

Carson Flores reached out his hand, “A small unit, not many people, better left unmentioned.”

Their hands clasped, and Carson Flores just felt a tight grip, Darian Marshman’s hand closing around his like a vice.

An intimidation tactic?

Carson Flores shook his hand slightly and said with a smile, “That’s enough.

Two grown men holding hands for too long, it feels a bit uneasy.”

Darian Marshman was surprised internally; using nearly 80 percent of his strength, the other man was still able to smile?

I don’t believe this!

With full force, Darian Marshman tightened his grip, while laughing, “We’re all ex-soldiers, instantly hit it off.

Can’t help but feel brotherly, right?

We should really drink heartily today.”

Carson Flores felt Darian Marshman’s grip growing stronger and a trace of coldness appeared in his eyes, “Indeed, we really should get a bit more intimate.”

Darian Marshman laughed boisterously, “Absolutely!

We—ah!”

Just as Darian Marshman was exerting his full strength, it felt like he was grasping an iron block—no matter how much force he applied, it retained its shape; he seemed to have grabbed hold of loneliness itself.

As he pondered, Carson Flores’s hand suddenly turned into a pair of iron pliers, clamping down crisply on his four fingers.

Excruciating pain!

Darian Marshman couldn’t help but cry out in pain, attracting the attention of everyone around.

Carson Flores, still holding Darian Marshman’s hand, shook it up and down, putting on a friendly act, “What’s that phrase, oh, ‘hit it off at first sight’?

That’s exactly how I feel about Brother Zheng right now.

Ex-soldiers like us can’t help but feel close, don’t you think?”
