Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Murong Puts Mustard in Ye Xiu’s Water

As expected, Murong approached Ye Xiu, gloating as she scanned his face for signs of a sleepless night. She had spent over three hours posting flyers yesterday, certain that Ye Xiu’s phone would be blowing up with calls. However, Ye Xiu looked full of energy, showing no signs of having missed a night’s sleep.

”Do you have a habit of turning off your phone before bed?” Murong asked.

”As someone who eats walnuts every day, I have my phone set to automatically block unknown numbers.” Ye Xiu patted Murong on the shoulder and said with a smile, ”Kid, you’re still a bit slow on the uptake. You should eat more walnuts; they’re good for the brain.”

”You...” Murong was furious. Did I waste all that time putting up flyers yesterday for nothing?

”You rogue!” Seething, Murong spun around and headed for the school gate, ignoring him.

Ye Xiu chased after her and gave her a light smack on the rear. ”That’s right, I am a rogue.”

”You... you’re taking advantage of me! I’ll fight you for this!” Murong fumed, infuriated that he had gotten fresh with her.

Ye Xiu immediately took off running.

”Don’t you run!” Murong gave chase at full speed.

She still hadn’t caught him by the time she reached the Ancient Medicine Class 2 classroom. When they entered, however, both of them froze in surprise. The classroom was completely empty. There wasn’t a single student in sight.

”PFFT!” Murong burst out laughing. ”Well, Teacher Ye, it seems I’m the only one who wants to attend your class.”

Ye Xiu furrowed his brow. ”That can’t be right.”

”What’s so strange about it?” Murong said, gloating. ”Everyone might admire your medical skills, but they’re just as afraid of getting dragged into your troubles. Yesterday, they didn’t dare leave because they were scared of being expelled by Principal Ghost Doctor. Today is different. They just made excuses not to show up, and there’s nothing Principal Ghost Doctor can do unless he forces everyone to attend.”

”Maybe everyone is in the main lecture hall,” Ye Xiu suggested.

”Stop deluding yourself,” Murong said, her voice dripping with fake sympathy meant to annoy him.

”Let’s go and see,” Ye Xiu said, heading straight for the main lecture hall.

Murong hurried to follow, eager to see him humiliated when they found it empty.

However, the moment Ye Xiu opened the door to the hall, Murong felt as if she had been the one who was slapped. Ye Xiu was also shocked by the scene inside. The lecture hall was packed to the gills, with several times more people than the day before—there must have been over a thousand.

”You really should eat more walnuts,” Ye Xiu murmured, tapping Murong’s shoulder again.

”You...!” Murong stomped her foot in frustration.

Ye Xiu ignored her and walked to the podium. ”Is today some kind of special occasion? Why are there so many people here?”

Sitting in the front row, the Ghost Doctor smiled and said, ”Many teachers and students were off campus during your lecture yesterday. When they heard about it, they were incredibly regretful, so they all rushed here today.”

”But I’m the teacher for Ancient Medicine Class 2. Is it really appropriate for the entire school’s faculty and student body to attend my lecture?” Ye Xiu asked.

”To the able, more work is given!” the Ghost Doctor said with a smile.

”Very well.” Ye Xiu wasn’t one to be difficult. To him, teaching one person was the same as teaching ten thousand.

He announced in a clear voice, ”Today’s lecture will follow the same format as yesterday’s. You ask questions, and I will answer. For any questions that require clinical practice, please see me privately.”

The moment he finished speaking, people were already clamoring to ask their questions. Ever since learning of Ye Xiu’s teaching style, all the teachers and students had spent the previous night writing down years’ worth of difficult questions in their notebooks, just waiting for this chance to ask him. This resulted in an exceptionally intense atmosphere during the lecture. Questions came one after another, leaving Ye Xiu without even a moment to catch his breath.

Yet Ye Xiu quite enjoyed this atmosphere. He admired these colleagues and their insatiable thirst for knowledge.

After the first session ended, Murong brought him a cup of water. ”Teacher Ye,” she said sweetly, ”you must be thirsty after lecturing for an hour, right?”

Ye Xiu was indeed thirsty. Without a second thought, he took the cup and was about to drink it all in one go. The moment the first drop hit his tongue, however, his taste buds exploded.

Wasabi! Dammit, there’s wasabi in the water! And from the taste of it, a third of this cup must be wasabi oil.

Even though his taste buds felt like they were on fire and a searing heat shot through his sinuses and cleared every meridian in his body, Ye Xiu managed to maintain a perfectly calm expression. He took a deep breath, and his features returned to normal.

He handed the cup back to Murong. ”Thank you.”

Murong was dumbfounded. ???

From the moment he took the cup, her eyes had been filled with anticipation, waiting to see him make a fool of himself. She had poured an entire small bottle of wasabi oil in there! Yet, after taking a sip, he acted as if nothing was wrong. What’s happening? Did I buy fake wasabi oil?

Deciding to find out, Murong quietly took a sip to taste it herself. Disaster struck.

”AHH!”

The intense kick of the wasabi instantly detonated in her mouth. Her normally cool, pretty face flushed crimson, and tears and snot began streaming down her cheeks.

”Student Murong, is something wrong?” Ye Xiu asked, doing his best to stifle his laughter.

Murong’s sudden cry startled the other teachers and students in the lecture hall, and all eyes turned to her. Seeing her face as red as blood and tears streaming down, they were momentarily confused.

”N-no, it’s nothing... I’m just... I’m just so moved...” Murong sobbed.

An air of understanding spread through the crowd, and many looked at her with empathy. In truth, everyone was deeply moved. Being able to listen to a lecture from the Divine Doctor Ye and even ask him questions was an unparalleled honor. It seemed perfectly normal that Murong, the youngest student in the entire school, would be so overwhelmed with emotion that she’d break down in tears.

”Don’t try pulling these little tricks on me again. I was running schemes when you were still in diapers,” Ye Xiu whispered, placing his left hand on her shoulder.

Murong then felt a cool current of energy flow from his palm into her body. In an instant, the agonizing burn from the wasabi vanished.

”You...” Murong’s eyes flew wide open. ”You’ve cultivated Inner Strength?”

”Well, well. You seem to know a thing or two,” Ye Xiu said with a smile.

Murong was secretly reeling. She knew just how difficult, tedious, and time-consuming it was to cultivate Inner Strength. Ye Xiu’s medical skills were already at a staggering level, yet he had somehow found the time to develop this as well. For most people, achieving greatness in a single field over a lifetime was already a remarkable feat. Yet Ye Xiu had reached an unparalleled level in his medical skills by the age of sixteen, and on top of that, he had also made significant progress with his Inner Strength.

”Are you some kind of monster?” Murong asked.

”You guessed it. I’m actually a dragon,” Ye Xiu said with an air of mystery.

Heh. Go on and boast. It’s not like it costs you anything!

”Master!” Just then, the Ghost Doctor ran over, his expression grave. ”The people from the Siwei Monitor are here.”

Ye Xiu was startled. What’s going on?

”See? Your trouble has arrived,” Murong said grimly. ”I suggest you sneak away, and quickly. If the Siwei Monitor finds out you’re teaching here, the Saint He Medical College and everyone in it will suffer the consequences.”
