Medical and Martial God

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Ultimate Realm of Being Shameless

”I can’t believe you’d say that,” Ye Xiu laughed. ”Brother, have you forgotten the oath we took when we became sworn brothers? To share our fortunes and our hardships together. Now I’m just asking to borrow a little money. You don’t have to be so heartless, do you?”

”Even if I had the money, I wouldn’t lend it to you. Have you looked at yourself? You’re a rat everyone wants to beat in the streets. Who would dare lend you money?” Ma Tengkong was incredibly cold and merciless, saying impatiently, ”Get out of here, and don’t you dare tell anyone about our relationship. I won’t acknowledge it even if you do.”

”Are you trying to sever ties with me?” Ye Xiu asked.

”That’s right!” Ma Tengkong picked up a piece of paper, tore it in half, and declared, ”In ancient times, men would cut their robes to renounce their brotherhood. Today, we tear this paper to sever our ties. From now on, you walk your narrow bridge, and I’ll walk my sunny road. We’ll have nothing to do with each other until the day we die.”

Ye Xiu smiled. That’s exactly what I was waiting for, old friend.

Ming Yue suddenly felt a pang of pity for Ma Tengkong. He actually managed to push away a massive backer like Ye Xiu. What a spectacular way to shoot himself in the foot.

”Still not leaving?” Ma Tengkong demanded impatiently.

”Who are you?” Ye Xiu asked. ”Do I know you?”

Ma Tengkong was speechless.

At that moment, two students walked in together. They froze for a moment at the sight of Ye Xiu and Ming Yue. One of them asked, ”Ma Tengkong, who are these two? Are they new classmates?”

Shenghe Medical College didn’t have a fixed enrollment schedule. As long as you passed the assessment, you could join at any time. Because of this, it wasn’t unusual for new students to appear midway through the term.

”I don’t know them,” Ma Tengkong said, his face an emotionless mask.

”I’m Ye Xiu,” Ye Xiu stated.

At his words, Ma Tengkong’s face turned pale with fright. He never expected Ye Xiu would dare to state his own name—it was practically a death wish.

Ming Yue was also taken aback by Ye Xiu’s boldness. Isn’t he just inviting these two students to mock and humiliate him?

However, the students’ reaction left both Ma Tengkong and Ming Yue baffled. Logically, upon learning Ye Xiu’s identity, the two students should have shown disgust and contempt before trying to drive him away. But instead, they became incredibly excited and agitated, as if they were on stimulants.

”Ye Xiu? Are you the Xuanse Medicine King from ten years ago, Principal Ghost Doctor’s master?” the student who had first spoken asked excitedly.

”I am,” Ye Xiu nodded.

The two students practically vibrated with excitement. Although many people had witnessed the Ghost Doctor publicly kneeling and calling Ye Xiu ’Master,’ those witnesses were mostly onlookers, reporters, and streamers who were there for the disciple acceptance ceremony. The teachers and students of Shenghe Medical College hadn’t seen it firsthand. Furthermore, the photos and videos of Ye Xiu that reporters and streamers had uploaded online were deleted almost instantly. Therefore, the faculty and students of Shenghe Medical College had only heard that the Ghost Doctor had a master. They only learned his master was actually Ye Xiu after some people went to ask the Ghost Doctor directly.

Moreover, both the Ghost Doctor and Huang Xinming had personally admitted that Ye Xiu was framed back then. All at once, many of the doctors at Shenghe Medical College who knew the story began to revere Ye Xiu once more, all hoping for a chance to meet him.

”Wait a minute.” Ma Tengkong shot to his feet. ”Jiang Hongye, what did you just say? Ye Xiu is Principal Ghost Doctor’s master?”

”You didn’t know?” the student called Jiang Hongye replied. ”The news has already spread throughout the school. How could you not have heard?”

”I haven’t heard anything,” Ma Tengkong said, a sinking feeling growing in his stomach.

”It’s like this. The Ghost Doctor’s disciple acceptance ceremony was actually a trap set by Divine Doctor Ye,” Jiang Hongye explained. ”The Principal knelt before Divine Doctor Ye in public and punished Huang Xinming. Now, Huang Xinming is in charge of sanitation for the medical college and the hospital. Huang Xinming also admitted with his own mouth that he was the one who framed Divine Doctor Ye back then.”

The other student chimed in, ”Actually, the incident back then was full of suspicious points. Everyone claimed Divine Doctor Ye’s medicine poisoned hundreds of people, but the Patrol Officers never arrested him. That clearly showed they had no evidence. Besides, in just a day or two, news about Divine Doctor Ye spread to every corner of the country. It was obvious someone was deliberately spreading it to maliciously slander him. The entire nation has misunderstood Divine Doctor Ye and owes him an apology.”

Ma Tengkong was stunned. At that moment, he realized Ye Xiu’s reappearance after ten years—showing up in Shenghe Medical College’s cafeteria and classroom—was no coincidence. He also realized Ye Xiu had intentionally asked to borrow money simply to test him, a test he had foolishly failed by severing their ties.

”There’s something else you definitely don’t know, Ma Tengkong,” Jiang Hongye said. ”Actually, Shenghe Medical College and Shenghe Hospital were both built with money from Divine Doctor Ye. He’s the one who waived our tuition fees. What’s more, he’s been the one paying the salaries for all the teaching staff and employees this whole time.”

After hearing Jiang Hongye’s words, Ma Tengkong’s face turned green with fear. Shenghe Medical College and Shenghe Hospital actually belonged to Ye Xiu. Didn’t that mean Ye Xiu could have him expelled from Shenghe Medical College with a single word? If that really happened, his reputation in the industry would be utterly ruined.

Ming Yue saw Ma Tengkong’s constipated expression and couldn’t help but gloat at his misfortune.

”By the way, Divine Doctor Ye, what brings you to Ancient Medicine Class 2?” Jiang Hongye asked.

”Starting today, I will be the teacher of Ancient Medicine Class 2,” Ye Xiu said with a smile.

Ming Yue was stunned. Ye Xiu is going to teach at Shenghe Medical College? This is the perfect opportunity to bring the college to ruin!

”Really?” Jiang Hongye and the other student felt as if a pie had just fallen from the sky and landed on them.

Jiang Hongye said excitedly, ”Does this mean... does this mean we’re going to be students of a Medicine King?”

The other student’s eyes filled with tears. ”This happiness is so sudden.”

While the two were lost in their joy, Ma Tengkong looked as if his father had just died. With Ye Xiu as the teacher of Ancient Medicine Class 2, wouldn’t his own position become even more intolerable?

No! I have to do something!

So he said to Jiang Hongye and the other student, ”Why are you still standing here? Go and inform the other students! Don’t keep Divine Doctor Ye waiting.”

”Right, right...” The two students hurriedly ran out to brag. They weren’t just going to notify the other students of Ancient Medicine Class 2; they were going to spread the news everywhere and make the other classes green with envy.

Once Jiang Hongye and the other student were gone, Ma Tengkong turned to Ye Xiu, feigning reproach. ”Brother, you’ve gotten pretty crafty over the years. How could you not tell me something so huge, that the Ghost Doctor is your disciple?”

”Wait!” Ming Yue exclaimed in shock. ”Didn’t you just sever your relationship with Ye Xiu?”

”I was just teasing my brother,” Ma Tengkong said with a laugh. ”Once brothers, always brothers. Our bond is thicker than blood. How could we break it off just like that?”

Ming Yue sneered inwardly. In her twenty-five years of life, she had truly never met such a shameless person!

”Brother, what were you saying before? About borrowing money?” Ma Tengkong said to Ye Xiu, beaming. ”Do you know why I didn’t lend you any? We’re brothers! My money is your money. The word ’borrow’ is too formal between us. Of course, I’d get angry! If you need cash, you just have to ask.”
