Medical and Martial God

Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Half-Brother

”What should we do? What should we do?” The girl was frantic.

”Call an ambulance, quick!” someone shouted.

The girl hastily took out her cell phone, her hands trembling as she went to dial for help.

”There’s no time!” Ye Xiu said. ”He’ll be dead by the time the ambulance arrives!”

As he spoke, he walked over, crouched down, and took Wangcai’s pulse.

”What are you doing?” Zhu Xiaowen asked.

”I can save him,” Ye Xiu said. ”Right now, I’m the only one who can.”

”Are you joking?” Zhu Xiaowen was furious. She yanked Ye Xiu away and reprimanded him. ”If he dies now, we bear no responsibility. If he dies because you mess things up, both of us will have to take the blame!”

Ye Xiu frowned. So there’s truly no friendship in high society, huh? Zhu Xiaowen seems so close to that girl, but the moment danger appears, her first thought is to absolve herself of all responsibility. But I can’t just stand by and watch someone die! Though Huang Quan has killed countless people, not one of them was innocent. Wangcai is innocent. He must be saved!

”I really can save him,” Ye Xiu said, ignoring Zhu Xiaowen and speaking earnestly to the girl.

”Then save him, please save him...” The girl was panicking. To her, Ye Xiu was the last straw to save not only Wangcai but also her family’s reputation.

”No!” Zhu Xiaowen grabbed Ye Xiu again and said sternly, ”If you dare touch Wangcai, I’ll fire you.”

”I quit,” Ye Xiu said.

The retort was sharp, a public slap to Zhu Xiaowen’s face. For her kept man to defy her orders in public—could there be anything more humiliating?

”Fine, I hereby declare that you are fired,” Zhu Xiaowen said, livid with shame. Her voice was ice-cold. ”If you want to save Wangcai, you can take him and get out of my house first.”

Ye Xiu frowned. ”In your eyes, is a man’s life less important than your pride?”

”You no longer have the right to speak to me. Get out of my house,” Zhu Xiaowen said with a look of utter indifference. She then turned to the other girl. ”Li Wan’er, at this point, you should be trusting doctors and the ambulance, not a dog.”

The girl, Li Wan’er, hesitated.

The other young masters and ladies also started to shout.

”It’s just an epileptic seizure! Stick a stick in Wangcai’s mouth, and he’ll be fine once the fit passes. This dog is just trying to grab attention.”

”He dares claim he can cure an epileptic seizure? If his Medical Skills were really that good, would he be kept by Zhu Xiaowen?”

”Li Wan’er, don’t believe a dog’s words. I’ve never heard of anyone dying from an epileptic fit unless they bite their tongue off.”

”Rather than believe what a dog says, you’d better call for help. It’s just a seizure; he can definitely hold on until the ambulance gets here.”

The young masters and ladies kept calling Ye Xiu a ”dog,” treating him as less than human. They didn’t believe for a second that he could save Wangcai. In their eyes, the man was just having a simple seizure, not suffering from the acute renal failure Ye Xiu had mentioned. Yet for all their shouting, not a single one of them bothered to help Li Wan’er call for an ambulance.

”Right, right, I’ll call for help...” Overwhelmed by the countless voices of doubt, Li Wan’er lost what little faith she had in Ye Xiu and frantically began to dial.

”Let him treat him!”

Just then, a voice rang out, laced with an authority that could not be questioned.

”If he says Wangcai won’t last until the ambulance arrives, then he’s definitely not mistaken.”

Everyone turned toward the voice. Two men and one woman were approaching. The woman was Yun Lan.

The young man in the lead, who looked to be in his twenties, walked with his head held high, radiating an almost arrogant confidence. Trailing behind him was a middle-aged man in his fifties cradling a sword, exuding a piercingly fierce aura.

When Ye Xiu saw the young man in the lead, his eyes filled with a Killing Intent he could barely suppress. Ye Xuan! His own half-brother. The son his father had with that mistress. It was because of her that Ye Xiu and his mother were driven out of the Ye Family. Ten years ago, when Ye Xiu earned the title of Medicine King, the Ye Family finally allowed him to acknowledge his ancestors and return to the clan. During the few days he was back, he suffered endless humiliation from Ye Xuan and his mother. Ye Xuan even stepped on his head and urinated on him. Moreover... Ye Xuan’s mother was one of the masterminds behind the plot to frame him back then.

”So, Young Master Ye has arrived.”

”Young Master Ye, long time no see! Do you remember me?”

”Wow, Young Master Ye gets more handsome every time...”

The young masters and ladies swarmed around Ye Xuan, scrambling over one another to flatter him. Although their own families were each worth over ten billion, they were trivial compared to a behemoth like the Ye Family. At that moment, aside from Ye Xiu and Li Wan’er, nobody cared whether Wangcai lived or died. They were all busy sucking up to Ye Xuan.

”Young Master Ye, what did you mean by what you just said?” Zhu Xiaowen asked, wrapping her arm around Ye Xuan’s and putting on a playful, flirtatious expression.

”Yeah, Young Master Ye, is Zhu Xiaowen’s dog really a doctor?”

”Young Master Ye, stop joking. How could a dog possibly understand Medical Skills?”

”Young Master Ye must want to watch that dog make a fool of himself.”

”I think Young Master Ye is trying to help Li Wan’er. If Wangcai dies because of that dog’s treatment, Li Wan’er won’t have to take any responsibility.”

Ye Xuan waved his hand, signaling for the crowd to be quiet.

”I’m not joking,” he said. ”If he can’t save Wangcai, then even sending him to the hospital would be a dead end.”

The crowd was stunned into silence.

”Are his Medical Skills really that good?” Zhu Xiaowen asked.

”If you knew who he was, you wouldn’t be questioning his Medical Skills,” Ye Xuan said.

”Who is he?” Zhu Xiaowen asked.

”He is my older half-brother, the former Xuanse Medicine King, Ye Xiu!” Ye Xuan announced.

GASP!

The entire room fell utterly silent. Everyone stared at Ye Xiu in shock.

This dog kept by Zhu Xiaowen is actually Ye Xiu, the man universally recognized by the medical world as the greatest medical expert of all time?

The faces of all the young masters and ladies burned hot, as if they had all been viciously slapped.

Zhu Xiaowen, in particular, was green with regret. Her regret wasn’t that she had stopped Ye Xiu from saving Wangcai. If Wangcai died because of Ye Xiu’s treatment, she wouldn’t be able to escape responsibility even if she had already fired him. After all, she was the one who brought him here. If Ye Xiu were to face legal charges for Wangcai’s death, the news that she was keeping a gigolo would spread like wildfire—a catastrophic scandal for the Zhu Family.

The real reason for her regret was that, once upon a time, she too had been one of Ye Xiu’s biggest fans.

”Big brother, it’s been ten years. I never thought you’d fall so low as to be kept by a rich woman,” Ye Xuan mocked as he pushed through the crowd and looked down at Ye Xiu, who was attending to Wangcai.

Ye Xiu glanced at Ye Xuan and asked with a small laugh, ”You’ve changed a lot in ten years, too. Do you still wet the bed?”
