Chapter 40: Chapter 40 Murong Questions Ye Xiu

Ming Yue finally realized. So this is what hypocrisy is. To be this shameless... one is truly invincible. I wonder if Ye Xiu will actually forgive Ma Tengkong.

”I’m a little short on money right now,” Ye Xiu said with a smile.

”Just say the word! Tell me how much you need, and your big brother will transfer it to you right away,” Ma Tengkong said generously.

”Two hundred million,” Ye Xiu said.

Ma Tengkong was speechless. ”...”

PFFT!

Ming Yue couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Ye Xiu is clearly toying with him.

”Brother, you think too highly of me,” Ma Tengkong said, his face darkening. ”Even if I sold the clinic, the house, the car, and my wife and kids, I couldn’t scrape together two hundred million.”

”How much do you have?” Ye Xiu asked.

”A little over nine million,” Ma Tengkong blurted out, regretting it the moment the words left his mouth. Please don’t ask for all of it.

”Give me nine million,” Ye Xiu said.

Ma Tengkong was silent. ”...”

”What? Can’t bear to part with it?” Ye Xiu asked with a smile.

”Of course not! We’re brothers. My money is your money,” Ma Tengkong said, his mouth twitching as he forced the words out. ”Come on, give me your bank account. I’ll transfer it right now. Nine million is a large sum, so it will probably arrive by tomorrow.”

”Great!” Ye Xiu immediately gave his bank account number to Ma Tengkong.

Right there in front of Ye Xiu, Ma Tengkong initiated the transfer. A message immediately popped up on his phone screen.

*Transfer successful!*

Ma Tengkong was stunned. ”How did it go through instantly?”

Ming Yue was also puzzled. A transfer as large as nine million should have required a review from the bank; it was impossible for it to be completed so quickly.

”Any transfer to my card, no matter the amount, goes through instantly,” Ye Xiu explained.

Ma Tengkong and Ming Yue exchanged a shocked glance. What kind of privilege is that?!

”So, uh, brother... when do you plan on paying me back?” Ma Tengkong asked tentatively.

Before Ye Xiu could answer, Ming Yue interjected seriously, ”You just said it yourself. You and Ye Xiu are brothers, so your money is his money. If Ye Xiu were to pay you back, it would be treating you like a stranger, wouldn’t it, big brother?”

Ma Tengkong was so furious at her words that he nearly keeled over.

”You owed me this money,” Ye Xiu said, his expression flat. ”Back then, you took all the countless gifts people sent me. They were worth twenty to thirty million, weren’t they? The money you used to expand your clinic, buy your house, and buy your car... that was all mine.”

”Come on, brother, don’t say it like that.” Ma Tengkong gave a fawning, awkward laugh. ”We’re family. There’s no need to count every penny so clearly, heh heh...”

His heart felt like it was bleeding. He knew he’d never see that nine million again. But he had a way to earn it all back. Ye Xiu was the Ghost Doctor’s master, and he was Ye Xiu’s big brother. That made him the Ghost Doctor’s senior master! With that identity, he could walk all over the medical community in Jin Ye City. The gifts, the invitations to events, the patients flocking to his clinic... it would all be money in his pocket.

Ye Xiu saw right through Ma Tengkong’s scheme and said, ”I may be back, and I may have taken the Ghost Doctor as my apprentice, but in the eyes of the public, I’m still a pariah of the medical world. What’s more, my old enemies are still dreaming of putting me in my grave. If they found out you were my ’big brother,’ I’m afraid your life would be in very real danger.”

Ma Tengkong froze. ”???”

What’s that supposed to mean? Did I just spend nine million to buy myself a death sentence?

Just then, a few students ran into the room, followed by more and more, arriving in twos and threes. They quickly filled the classroom, and the crowd even spilled out into the hallway. There were even a few teachers among them. All eyes, from students and faculty alike, were fixed on Ye Xiu with a fervent gaze. The students of Ancient Medicine Class 2 looked thrilled, while those from other classes and specialties looked on with envy.

”Teacher, all the students from Ancient Medicine Class 2 who are on campus have arrived,” Jiang Hongye said, proud that he was the first among them to have met Ye Xiu.

”All these people are...?” Ye Xiu asked, clicking his tongue in amazement.

”Only twenty-three of them are. The rest are from Ancient Medicine Class 1 and other medical programs. They heard you had become the new teacher for Ancient Medicine Class 2 and rushed over to witness your greatness,” Jiang Hongye explained.

Ye Xiu was left speechless. I didn’t expect this to become such a big deal. ”Since there are so many of us, let’s move to a larger lecture hall,” he said.

At his words, the teachers and students inside and outside the classroom erupted in excitement. Soon, the crowd relocated to the grand lecture hall. It was the same one the Ghost Doctor used for his all-school lectures and was large enough to accommodate the entire student body and faculty.

Standing at the lectern, Ye Xiu spoke with a hint of apprehension. ”This is my first time being a teacher, and my first time lecturing to so many elites. I have to admit, I’m a little nervous.”

HAHAHAHA!

The entire hall roared with laughter. His remark made everyone realize that this god-like figure at the peak of the nation’s medical field was so approachable.

Ye Xiu waved a hand, signaling for silence, and the laughter stopped on a dime.

”You are all elites, and Shenghe Medical College isn’t a conventional school, so there’s no need for rigid, by-the-book teaching. Besides, I don’t know any of you yet...” Ye Xiu paused for a few seconds before continuing, ”So how about this: you can ask me anything you want, and I’ll be responsible for answering.” A direct lecture would be a waste of time for many of them, since he might cover topics they were already experts in.

”Teacher, I have a question!” someone shouted, raising a hand.

”Go ahead,” Ye Xiu said.

The person who had raised their hand stood up, and as they did, Ye Xiu felt an icy chill wash over him. It was a girl, likely in her early twenties. In a college where the average student age was thirty-five, she was remarkably young. That means she must have a strong medical background, having started her studies from a young age, or perhaps she possesses a rare talent for it.

But... her expression and eyes were chillingly cold. Her eyes were like a pool of stagnant water, utterly devoid of ripples—the gaze of a cold-blooded killer, and it shocked Ye Xiu to his core.

”My name is Murong, and I’m a student in Ancient Medicine Class 2,” the girl said. ”My question is this: although we know you were framed back then, the public doesn’t. You have no evidence to prove your innocence. By taking a teaching position at Shenghe Medical College, aren’t you afraid that once the news gets out, you’ll drag the entire college into a maelstrom of public controversy?”

No one had expected such a sharp question. It was like a knife aimed to sever the ties between Ye Xiu and Shenghe Medical College. Just as all the teachers and students were feeling thrilled and honored to have Ye Xiu as their instructor, Murong’s question came like a douse of icy water, chilling them all to the bone.

Sitting at the back of the lecture hall, Ming Yue glared furiously at Murong’s back. I was just planning to spread the news about Ye Xiu teaching here to ruin this college’s reputation along with his own. But if this girl’s question makes him quit, what’s the point?
