Invincible Little School Doctor

Chapter 396: Chapter 395: If troops come, generals will block, what’s there to fear?

”Not going?”

Chen Zhonghe’s expression darkened.

He had promised this matter in front of Secretary Tao, the top official of Haishan City’s municipal committee. He thought that Ye Haochuan, being just a greenhorn fresh from society, would be easy to handle in front of an old player like him, but he had not expected the young man to be so unaccommodating.

”Director Chen, is there anything else? If not, please excuse me,” Ye Haochuan said, indicating that he was about to rise.

”Doctor Ye...” Kou Jing hurriedly tried to keep him.

The development of the situation had completely surprised her, but what she found even more unexpected was Ye Haochuan’s firm attitude, not even showing respect for the formidable position of the Director of the Health Bureau.

”Director Kou, you needn’t worry about this matter,” Ye Haochuan glanced at Kou Jing, giving her a meaningful look.

Kou Jing got the hint. Although somewhat puzzled, she tactfully closed her mouth.

Seeing his attitude, Chen Zhonghe frowned and said, ”Little Doctor Ye, you should think this through carefully. Commander Ma is a prestigious Colonel Regimental Commander. If you foster a good relationship with him, he will be your protector in Haishan, ensuring that no one dares to bully you.”

Hearing this, Ye Haochuan almost laughed. With his current status as an Outer Sect Disciple, who in the Secular World would dare provoke him? And would he need a Colonel Regimental Commander to act as his protector? Naive, laughable!

”Director Chen, I have thought it through very clearly. I am merely an honest and legitimate medical practitioner; as long as I don’t violate any laws or discipline, there is no need for Commander Ma to be my protector,” Ye Haochuan responded coolly.

Chen Zhonghe’s brow furrowed deeply. He had never imagined that Ye Haochuan would refuse, and what he found even harder to accept was that the refusal was completely unequivocal, leaving no room for negotiation.

This inexplicably infuriated him, and his tone grew harsher, ”Little Doctor Ye, a medical practitioner should have a heart of compassion. Surely you, as a doctor, wouldn’t refuse to save a life?”

”Though that’s the case, I am not that noble. I have the right to choose my patients, right? Moreover, there are so many medical experts and professors in the world. Commander Ma can very well find someone else. Does he really need to insist on me?” Ye Haochuan scoffed.

”So, you are determined not to save this person?” Chen Zhonghe’s face became somewhat unpleasant.

”Exactly,” Ye Haochuan said gravely.

”You...” Chen Zhonghe was about to explode, but then his tone softened, ”I hope you think it through a little more. You have a promising future ahead. If you refuse me, then your advancement to the next professional title might be in jeopardy...”

”It doesn’t matter.” Ye Haochuan shrugged.

Watching his nonchalant demeanor, Chen Zhonghe felt the anger he had suppressed rising again. This Ye Haochuan was a real thorn in the flesh, completely uncooperative.

With this thought, he glared and said, ”Young man, you’re still naive. Things in society aren’t as simple as you think. Offending a big shot like Commander Ma is not going to end well for you, you know?”

Hadn’t he already offended him? Was he supposed to now humbly seek favor just because it might turn out well?

”It’s not necessary to offend him, but he has offended me!” Ye Haochuan retorted sharply.

Chen Zhonghe had somewhat understood the grudge between Ye Haochuan and Commander Ma before this. In his view, Ma Tao, being a distinguished Colonel Regimental Commander who had personally come to request help, had already given significant face, albeit a bit forcefully, which was understandable.

Little did he know, Ye Haochuan was particularly averse to such tactics. This Ma, accustomed to being overbearing, did whatever he wished and showed little respect to medical practitioners, not giving them even the slightest consideration. How could this be acceptable?

”Yes, Commander Ma has offended you, but as medical practitioners, we should understand the feelings of the patients’ families,” Chen Zhonghe said, his tone slightly softened, trying to ease the tense atmosphere.

Ye Haochuan’s mouth curled into a mocking smile, but he remained silent.

”Moreover, you might not be aware that Commander Ma is the son-in-law of Secretary Tao, the top official of Haishan City. If you offend him, you offend Secretary Tao too. Secretary Tao has been my superior for a long time; I know him well. You rejected him, let’s see how he makes things difficult for you?”

He appeared to be advising, but his words carried a distinct threat.

How could Ye Haochuan not understand? He was the type who doesn’t respond to coercion but to gentleness, and the only thing he doesn’t fear is threats. Make things difficult for him? He could just leave far away—who is afraid of whom?

”Thank you for your concern, Director Chen, but if I’m not afraid of offending Commander Ma, why would I fear offending some secretary? In this vast world, if one place doesn’t welcome me, there are plenty other places that will!”

Ye Haochuan did not want to waste more words, apologized briefly, and then left the office. Kou Jing called out to him several times, but he did not stop.

Watching Ye Haochuan walk away without giving any face, Chen Zhonghe’s face twitched with visible veins. Once Ye Haochuan had left the office, Chen burst into a sudden rage, turning to his secretary and saying, ”Damn it, he’s too arrogant, too disrespectful, such unethical behavior from a doctor, I must handle this, I must absolutely handle this...”

Just outside the door, Ye Haochuan heard this and sneered internally. His true nature had been revealed, hadn’t it? Damn it, him unethical? Accusing him falsely, huh? He was far better at this game than Chen.

At that moment, Kou Jing had caught up to him, grabbed him and said, ”Why did you have to do that? After all, he is a director, and not giving him face like that may not be a good idea?”

”What’s so bad about that? Why should I give face to a director who is so unreasonable?” Ye Haochuan scoffed.

Kou Jing listened, helplessly. She admired Ye Haochuan’s uncompromising nature, yet it also worried her.

”But, acting like this, I’m afraid it might affect our recently improving affiliated hospital. What will you tell Chairman Xiao when she returns?” Kou Jing sighed.

Hearing this, Ye Haochuan’s heart sank. True, be it Director Chen or Secretary Tao, they might not handle him directly, but with their administrative power, if they repeatedly made things difficult for Xiao Haimei, how could she bear it?

Deep inside, he suddenly regretted his impulsiveness. Yet, remembering Commander Ma’s unreasonable arrogance, he felt irked again. Face it as it comes, what’s there to fear?

”Forget it, what’s done is done, worrying is useless. Let’s take it one step at a time,” he said, changing the subject and suggesting they go for lunch together.

”Alright,” Kou Jing reluctantly nodded.

After they had descended the stairs, Ye Haochuan first called his mother to tell her he wouldn’t be coming home for lunch, then he and Kou Jing went to the cafeteria.

At that time, the cafeteria was no longer as deserted as before; it was packed with patients and their families, bustling and noisy.

In one corner of the cafeteria, a section was clearly marked off. This was to be the site of the first Ye Family Medicinal Cuisine Shop.

Currently, the Medicinal Cuisine Shop was under renovation. To not affect the dining experience of patients and their families, the renovation area was specifically concealed with partition curtains, making it invisible to those outside.

Moreover, since it was lunchtime, all renovation work had ceased.

After they had queued and gotten their food, they sat down at an empty table to eat. However, as they were eating and talking, suddenly four or five people surrounded them, both men and women, all with unfriendly expressions.
