Invincible Little School Doctor

Chapter 395: Chapter 394: Sorry, I Won’t Go

Under Kou Jing’s guidance, Ye Haochuan arrived at the reception room and pushed the door open.

Glancing around, he saw a middle-aged man nearing fifty, sitting on the couch, and next to him stood a neatly-dressed young man.

The middle-aged man was none other than Director Chen Zhonghe of the Haishan City Health Bureau, and the young man was his secretary.

”Director Chen, this is Doctor Ye Haochuan from our Affiliated Hospital,” Kou Jing said with a smile as she walked toward them.

Chen Zhonghe looked up at Ye Haochuan, a smile appearing on his face, and he stood up saying, ”Come, come, Doctor Ye, please sit, please sit...”

”Thank you, Director Chen.”

Kou Jing smiled and gave Ye Haochuan a knowing look, who then sat down next to Kou Jing on the couch.

Ye Haochuan disliked such formalities and, after all, he greatly enjoyed the company of the esteemed Mayor Lin Xiaoquan, so how could he feel restrained by this mere Director of the Health Bureau? He got straight to the point, ”Director Chen, did you need something from me?”

”Doctor Ye, can’t I chat with you if there’s nothing urgent?” Chen Zhonghe’s smile grew warmer, making him appear very friendly.

Seeing his enthusiastic demeanor, Ye Haochuan was quite puzzled, but considering the man’s seniority, he remained politely respectful.

”Then I must thank Director Chen for taking time out of his busy schedule to show concern for us grassroots medical practitioners,” Ye Haochuan said with a laugh.

”You’re making too much of it, Doctor Ye,” Chen Zhonghe responded with a cheery laugh. ”To have such promising young talents like Doctor Ye in our Haishan City Hospital system is a blessing for our Haishan. It even adds glory to my face.”

Chen Zhonghe said beamingly.

”You’re too kind, Director Chen,” Ye Haochuan responded with a laugh.

”By the way, Doctor Ye, with your abilities, you should be making a significant impact at any of our major hospitals in Haishan City. Why choose to work at a small institute like Haishan University Affiliated Hospital?” Chen Zhonghe said, his tone casual as if making small talk.

”It’s quite embarrassing actually. After graduation, I applied to various major hospitals in Haishan, but because of my low degree, I was turned down by all. Fortunately, Chairman Xiao from the university board valued me and allowed me to work as a school physician...”

Ye Haochuan explained with a laugh.

”Ah, it’s truly heartbreaking. That someone of your talent, Doctor Ye, was turned away by our city’s major hospitals. I must review this matter thoroughly when I get back. We can’t keep letting outstanding physicians like you be disheartened,” Chen Zhonghe said gravely.

Ye Haochuan felt dizzy listening to this.

”Director Chen’s foresight is commendable. No wonder medical development in Haishan City continues to reach new heights. It’s truly a cause for celebration,” Ye Haochuan chuckled.

Sure enough, the director beamed with pride at the compliment.

Ye Haochuan noticed and grew more convinced that Director Chen had an ulterior motive in meeting him.

”By the way, Doctor Ye, what is your current professional title?” Chen Zhonghe asked with a concerned look.

”I currently hold a First-Level professional title as a Physician,” Ye Haochuan calmly replied.

”First-Level?” Chen Zhonghe shook his head, ”With your medical skills, how can you only be at the First-Level? That’s too low, way too low, you should at least be a Middle Level attending physician. Here’s what we’ll do, Doctor Ye, I’ll have someone look into this and promote you to Middle Level...”

Ye Haochuan hesitated for a moment, ”Director Chen, according to the regulations, a specialized graduate must have been practicing for over six years to qualify for promotion to an attending physician, and I’ve only just started working...”

”Rules are dead, but people are alive,” Chen Zhonghe said with gleaming eyes.

With that said, Ye Haochuan found it awkward to object further, so he repeatedly expressed his thanks. However, deep inside, he was more convinced than ever that Director Chen repeatedly offering him advantages must have some underlying motive. Ye Haochuan didn’t believe otherwise for a second.

Seeing how easily he was promised a Middle-Level title, Kou Jing, who had remained silent, felt both envious and pleased, proud that her boyfriend was so capable.

”However, since it’s a matter of the system, when I promote you, you must perform well and not disappoint me,” Chen Zhonghe cautioned.

Hearing how heavily he emphasized ”perform,” Ye Haochuan felt a chill inside, wondering what Director Chen meant by that. Was there an implied expectation?

This thought passed quickly through his mind, but under the circumstances, it wasn’t appropriate to ask more, so he simply responded without betraying his inner thoughts, ”Thank you for the promotion and your care, Director Chen. I will certainly do my best.”

”That’s good to hear.”

Chen Zhonghe nodded in satisfaction, then casually added, ”By the way, Doctor Ye, I have a patient here suffering from polio. Do you have any expertise in this area?”

Polio?

Ye Haochuan felt something was amiss but couldn’t pinpoint it. He nodded and said, ”I have indeed conducted extensive research on polio. The best method is acupuncture. However, whether I can cure the patient will depend on my examination to determine the appropriate treatment.”

”Of course, of course...” Chen Zhonghe said with a smile.

”By the way, who is this patient with polio? Is it a relative or a friend of yours, Director Chen?” Ye Haochuan casually inquired.

”Ah, somewhat,” Chen Zhonghe replied with a chuckle, ”Actually, you know the patient’s father too. He’s Commander Ma Tao...”

”Ma Tao?” Ye Haochuan was momentarily stunned, then realized. It turned out Director Chen was acting as a go-between for that guy Ma.

Ye Haochuan was secretly astonished.

With this realization, Ye Haochuan felt an internal displeasure. This Ma Tao, taking himself too seriously, could have just apologized and admitted his mistake, and Ye Haochuan would have let the matter slide.

After all, as a Medical Practitioner, Ye Haochuan couldn’t let personal feelings outweigh the life of Ma Tao’s daughter.

”Director Chen, I’m sorry, but while I don’t hesitate to treat anyone else, I must refuse in the case of Ma Tao,” Ye Haochuan said unapologetically.
