We don’t lack individuals who are all talk with no substantial work skills.

You did right to drive them away!

Moreover, we’re already in touch with Upper Shanghai City Government, so with their presence, they can’t cause any havoc!”

The young man in glasses was seated, reading some documents about the village.

He had invested a lot into making the village what it was today, so they no longer viewed this place as a temporary haven but genuinely wanted to settle down here!

“Alright, stop pouring over these now.

We’ve done plenty over these few months, from restoring electricity, to reinstating communication, and getting in touch with the Upper Shanghai City Government.

It’s time to unwind now.

Aunt Jia just came looking for me.

She said it’s New Year’s Eve and invited us to join their family dinner.

I’ve agreed.

Let’s go!”

The bearded man snatched away the documents from the young man.

Their combat powers had significantly declined in the recent battles.

To maintain their status in the village, they either taught the robust village men their combat techniques or utilized their knowledge and abilities to create some benefits for the village!

With the village regaining access to electricity and initiating large-scale farming coupled with their personal ventures into Upper Shanghai City which had suffered the Red Light Attack, secret meetings with the survivors among the ‘government officials’, they had secured a bunch of supplies.

Thus, the village started genuinely moving towards stability.

“What I am looking at isn’t trivial, look.” The glasses-wearing young man pointed at the information he held and spoke seriously.

Observing the young man’s movements, the bearded man knew he wasn’t playing around, resulting in him giving it his undivided attention.

He was pointing at a map file received via ‘special channels’ that marked the latest movements of the metal monsters!

These maps would confound the average individual.

However, as assassins, their familiarity with this kind of information came naturally, and after studying it for a while, the bearded man also wore a serious expression.

“Seems like the metal monsters are planning another assault!”

He shook his head.

The data clearly indicated an assembly of metal monsters; they might be preparing to attack Upper Shanghai City again!

In the span of half a year, the metal monsters had marshalled three times, launching extensive attacks on Upper Shanghai City!

The first instance shocked the world with an army of twenty thousand.

That was also when the new weapons of Huaxia showcased their might, annihilating the twenty thousand strong army of metal monsters in a single battle, marking their most significant loss in their fights against humans to date.

After that, the metal monsters assembled twice, once with a force of ten thousand.

However, their tactics seemed to evolve to counter Huaxia’s new weapons.

Although they failed again, the military power of Upper Shanghai City almost completely collapsed.

If the attack had mobilized an army of twenty thousand then, Upper Shanghai City would have probably been conquered!

The third was just a month ago!

That time, the metal monsters only assembled a little over eight thousand, but the shock they inflicted almost wiped out all of Upper Shanghai City.

That’s why more and more refugees have been fleeing nearby villages in Shanghai City recently!

Within these three battles, Upper Shanghai City’s military forces have inflicted a minimum of thirty-five thousand losses on the metal monsters!

This achievement is incredibly striking currently on Earth.

However, this accomplishment does not guarantee the beleaguered city’s safety.

Instead, more and more people, because of several attacks by the metal monsters, have grown terrified of the city, fearing that the next attack is imminent!

As a result, an increasing number of refugees from the city center are fleeing to villages near Upper Shanghai City.

Many of these refugees used to wield power, but to survive, they naturally had to swallow their pride.

However, some people with enormous power, brought their armed personnel.

In this perilous time of war, they replaced the original residents of some safe and hidden villages.”

Originally, many people thought that the next general attack launched by the metal monsters wouldn’t happen this quickly.

But based on the intelligence that the glasses-wearing young man had obtained, the next general attack by the metal monsters is imminent!

“Never mind, if the metal monsters attack Shanghai City, all we can do is pray they don’t notice us.

If we do get discovered, considering our village, we don’t stand a chance of resisting!”

The spectacled young man sighed deeply, stood up, and along with the bearded man, walked towards the house where Jia’s family resided.

This remote village has undergone significant changes compared to before, with huts built of wood rising from the ground!

As money loses its utility, barter has slowly increased in this village.

Even those with nothing could exchange labor for goods.

As long as they are willing to work hard, such as helping to build houses or farming, they could earn what they need to survive!

Jia’s family has a unique status in this community.

It seems that they have a certain relationship with the two assassins who manage the village.

Therefore, unlike others, they don’t need to perform heavy physical labor, but just handle some simple administrative tasks.

“Aunt Jia, We’re here!”

On New Year’s Eve, Jia’s family greeted the two most prominent people in the village!

The three members of the Jia family live in a brick house built long ago within the village.

It’s certainly more comfortable than the hastily built huts!

Opening the door, Mother Jia greeted them.

To these two men who had protected her family throughout the war and taken care of them when it was hard to even take care of one’s self – Jia’s family harbored immense gratitude.

Hence, she greeted them warmly.

“Xiao Yao and Peng Xian are here!

It’s cold outside!

Please, come in.

We have a furnace inside!”

Indeed, Peng Xian is the bearded man’s name, his full name being Chen Peng Xian.

Since that name doesn’t match his image as a big burly man with a beard, he always insisted that the young man in glasses not call him by his real name.

However, after living here for a while, his real name slowly became known to the villagers, though they mostly refrained from using it, except for Jia’s family.

Most people called them ‘First Instructor’ and ‘Second Instructor’.

This was because they initially took over the management of the village under the guise of training the villagers.

Inviting the two assassins into the house, Father Jia and Jia Lin also wore broad smiles.

After all, they were naturally fond of their rescuers who had saved their family in dire times.

Even though both assassins emphasized that they were carrying out the duties of a Trustee, that Trustee had never showed up.

It seems as though they had lost contact with him.

But irrespective of this, they continued to take care of Jia’s family, which was perceived as an even bigger favor by the Jia family.

Suddenly, they felt like family.

“Hehe, Jia Lin, you’ve grown, you’re a big girl now!”

The bearded man looked at Jia Lin with a face full of reminiscence.

They had been interacting with this family for more than half a year now.

The once naive little girl, who foolishly wanted to avenge her brother in Shanghai City, had in the span of six months, matured into a gorgeous young woman pursued by many young men in the village!

Standing next to her parents, Jia Lin indeed seemed more radiant than before.

She had always been a cute girl with baby fat, but after experiencing some hard times in the past six months, she had gained the air of a mature young woman.

She has always had a good figure, and in this village boasting several thousand people, she is definitely among the most stunning women, thereby attracting a lot of attention.

After hearing the bearded man’s jest, the old Jia Lin would have blushed shyly.

But now, she realizes it’s all in good humor.

Thus, she just stood there, her finger covering her increasingly rosy lips as she giggled.
