Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 2687 Drastic Situation?

”... not the inheritor.”

Mistress Yeyin declared, causing the Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch to look at her with a disappointed gaze.

”Youʼre the only person weʼre lacking a background check on, and we thought all that was because to protect you from being embarrassed by your parentʼs scandal but now, things point to something else. If you arenʼt the inheritor, then who is?”

The Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch narrowed her brows. However, Mistress Yeyin remained calm and composed, a light smile appearing on her expression as she started to disappear.

”I donʼt know. Why donʼt Matriarch summon every member of the Ice Phoenix Clan and search for the inheritor within them?”

With a question, Mistress Yeyinʼs soul body faded away from the scene.

”...”

It could be seen that Mistress Yeyin dispersed her soul body, causing the Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch to sigh gently.

It appears like getting Yeyin back to the clan was a failure.

But in truth, she could tell that the other party was hiding something, most likely the identity of the other inheritor they caught on the Inheritor Tracing Formation. However, for her to question her to search for the inheritor within the members of the Ice Phoenix Clan registered in the Aurora Cloud Gate, did that mean that there was indeed someone within or someone outside?

She couldnʼt figure that out.

”Looks like the so-called inheritor doesnʼt want to leave.”

Elder Aradiel Furiose commented before he lightly sighed, ”Iʼm not even an External Affairs Elder, so why am I dealing with you people? Ugh, itʼs all because of that bratʼs fault for offending the Godwin Family.”

The Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch had heard about a woman called Myria killing Nyx Godwin in self-defense and heard it from Mistress Yeyin, so she wasnʼt exactly new to the matter, nor was she interested in it how the Aurora Cloud Gate was in a state of alert at the moment, causing her to focus on another aspect of Elder Aradiel Furioseʼs sentence.

”Since youʼre a Law Enforcement Elder, would the Ice Phoenix Clan will be able to obtain a search warrant from the Aurora Cloud Gate to search for our inheritor?”

”Absolutely not.” Elder Aradiel Furiose strictly shook his head, ”You cannot disturb our disciples as you please. If you want to call someone to the Visitors Hall, we shall abide by it and request them, but whether they want to see you or not is their own wish.”

The Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch couldnʼt help but silently giggle but Elder Aradiel Furiose continued to talk.

”As the Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch, you should be already aware that there are a few inheritors who have been with us for some time. We donʼt berate any of them to return to their powers, nor do we wish to entrap them and take advantage of them, so Ice Phoenix Matriarch can rest assured that we wonʼt do anything to them. The Candidacy is not our concern, and the Aurora Cloud Gate doesnʼt want anything out of it. Just leave us alone as we always have remained, and weʼll make sure the inheritors- no, our disciples are always protected as long as they remain within the sect grounds.”

”What a strange power...” The Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch wryly smiled.

”Youʼre being too reasonable for me to fight back. But if I donʼt return with the inheritors, Iʼll get berated by the Grand Elders and perhaps even the Ancestors. What a pity...”

She gently sighed, taking out something from her spatial ring that raised Elder Aradiel Furioseʼs brows slightly.

=========

Mistress Yeyinʼs ice mirror, which was projecting the things happening in the Visitor Hall, collapsed. Her gaze fell on Davis, a complicated gaze emerging from her eyes.

”You were right. They were indeed here to take me back.”

”Thatʼs right.” Davis nodded, ”Although I could see the Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch claiming to protect you, I donʼt know what kind of person she is, so I wouldnʼt want to take my chances with her.”

”Me neither. I donʼt know her,” Mistress Yeyin lightly smiled, ”But here, no one can harm me, not even you, so I can rest assured.”

Davis returned a vague smile, but he shook his head and didnʼt say anything.

After a pause, Mistress Yeyin moved her mouth, ”But still, thank you.”

”Oh no. Thank you for saying that I didnʼt harass you by holding your hand to law enforcement.”

”Aha~” Tanya suddenly burst out laughing lightly, ”I almost thought my dear has gone rogue, kidnapping a woman into his life ring and catching hold of a maidenʼs hand rudely and telling her to stay with him.”

”Oye.” Davis turned to look at her twisting the story.

He didnʼt expect Tanya to make fun of him, but he could see that her old self was coming out bit by bit. The Frostcloud Sword Empressʼs training didnʼt make her have an icy personality but even caused her to return to her old self that was in her own world, jovial and curious of the world.

”Whatʼs that about the former?” Shirley glared at him from the side, causing Davis to chuckle awkwardly.

”Itʼs Mystic Diviner Hailac. She injured herself for us and fainted, so sheʼs still recuperating peacefully.”

”Oh. Then thatʼs okay~”

Shirley took her head back, lightly nodding as though she wouldnʼt beat him up for it.

Meanwhile, no one noticed the blush that appeared on Mistress Yeyinʼs face. She gazed at Davis frolicking with his women but somehow that appeared innocent in her eyes. It seemed that the rumors about him being an evil calamity were unfounded.

Nonetheless, her eyes dimmed a bit as she did not know what the future encompassed for her. The fact that she was the inheritance master but had no memories of it was extremely conflicting and hard for her to still believe, but the things she had seen and heard so far pointed to that exactly.

Otherwise, why would the Emperor of Death bother about her with no prior relationship between them?

Why would his people appear to care about her? She refused to believe that their sincerity was an attempt to try fooling her. They were powerful and had no need for that, and she had nothing to give, so everything pointed to her having a hidden history that she apparently couldnʼt discover or suffer some kind of consequences.

This was what she garnered from Davisʼs refusal to talk about the matter.

”And... where is Mistress Zahara?” Davis suddenly asked, ”I donʼt want her to carelessly fall into a similar trap as well.”

Mistress Yeyin came out of her reverie, and seeing him looking worried, she lightly smiled.

”Unlike me, who lied about sustaining injuries, she sustained injuries protecting that woman you have in your life ring, so sheʼs recuperating as well.”

”Is that so?”

”...!ʼ

Mistress Yeyin flinched as she turned to look to the side while the others froze, slowly looking toward the direction in which Mistress Yeyin turned to.

What they saw was a wistful beauty in the distance brushing her white hair aside from her face, her eyes squinting as though smiling as she appeared before them.

”Matriarch...”

Mistress Yeyin became slightly pale. How did the Ice Phoenix Clanʼs Matriarch get into the sect!?
