Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 2680 Aurora Cloud Gate’s Reputation

Great Ancestor Zenflame and Great Ancestor Rocksunder also possessed a similar expression on their faces as Davis did. They were also gratified by this scene, seeing that the fourth inheritors were not opposed to participating in the Candidacy for their sake, realizing that they were solemn in their own way.

However, it seemed like they had made their decisions, which infuriated their powers. But it wasnʼt like they couldnʼt understand the thought process of their powers, wanting to be assured to the fullest.

”Although we have had our differences, Iʼd like to celebrate the fact that we have resolved our misunderstandings and chosen to compromise. Our clans would never target you again. You have my word. If I donʼt hold up my words, you can try to kill me as you have threatened us before. I accept challenges anytime.”

”Iʼll still target you with my one-sided love, though.”

”Ahahaha.”

Davis was absolutely both appalled and amused by the sense of humor the Great Ancestor Zenflame and Great Ancestor Rocksunder possessed, causing him to burst into a round of laughter lightly.

How did they embody the ideologies of their clan? One seemed to have little arrogance, and the other no shame. Although he knew they were probably trying to be friendly, he couldnʼt help but think that they were still youths before smilingly shaking his head.

”Fine, when is the celebration?”

When they lowered themselves that much, he naturally didnʼt want to be unreasonable.

However, Great Ancestor Zenflame suddenly frowned.

”Perhaps a month from now?”

”That long?”

Davis blinked. If their relations could improve, wouldnʼt it be the sooner, the better?

”I guess weʼre still busy and have to look at the overall situation. You would be surprised to know that weʼre targeted as well. Just a few hours ago, an inheritor of the Starlight Jade Wolf Clan was murdered by an assassin right under the noses of many Immortal Emperors.”

”What…?” Davis became shocked at Great Ancestor Zenflameʼs explanation.

The Candidacy had not even begun. It was just announced, but there was already a causality? And it was from the Starlight Jade Wolf Clan, at that?

He couldnʼt help but remember the Star Jade Wolf King. He still had to go visit their clan as he had been invited but to think they had suffered already.

Suddenly, his expression went stiff.

Was this because of choosing to openly side with him, an Anarchic Divergent?

ʼIt couldnʼt be, right? I didnʼt make much contact with them...ʼ

Davis wondered. Was this truly the case for powers who chose to work with him? For the Aurora Cloud Gate, he figured that there were already powerful Divergents weighing on its karmic luck yet still managing to keep it stable and strong because they were powerful themselves, but for the ones who have yet to come in contact with Divergents would that end in disaster?

What kind of rules did the world operate in for him to not put any people in danger? He wished that he could use his calamitous fate against his enemies instead.

”I know what you think as I heard the story. Whether it is your fault or not, Iʼm still willing to gamble.”

Suddenly, Great Ancestor Rocksunderʼs lips curled, ”And I have to say, my odds are pretty good that I rarely lose a gamble.”

Davis turned to stare at Great Ancestor Rocksunder before turning to look at Great Ancestor Zenflame.

”You knew but still chose to form this kind of distant alliance? Are you not afraid that it would come back to bite you?”

”Afraid?”

Great Ancestor Zenflame couldnʼt help but laugh, ”Iʼm extremely afraid, but that is what taking risks is all about. It makes your heart race, and when you lose, you feel like shit and would even want to die from shame, but when you win, it is as though you are lifted into the nine heavens.”

A pious expression appeared on his face before he smirked at Davis.

”You young man shouldnʼt be worrying about these things as we arenʼt directly relying on you but your wives. You just have to protect our two inheritors and see to it that they donʼt get assassinated halfway. I believe in the Aurora Cloud Gate, but you, I have yet to see your capability.”

”You believe in the Aurora Cloud Gate?”

Davis raised his brows at Great Ancestor Zenflame.

”Of course.” Great Ancestor Zenflame and Great Ancestor Rocksunder both laughed as they turned to look at Elder Aradiel Furiose, and their voice echoed inside his head.

”You see him?”

”The fact that he is still here is plainly telling us that the Divine Saintess is still here.”

”Because he was infatuated with the Saintess, just like the rest of us...”

”Woah…”

Davis wasnʼt mind-blown, but he was astonished to know some detail about the past.

”You two were also infatuated with her?ʼ

”We two?” Great Ancestor Rocksunder looked like he heard something funny, ”The entire congregation of male inheritors was infatuated with her. After all, she had such a unique and innocent presence and an untouchable sacred aura that took our breath away, not to mention the most important reason for almost all of us starting to fall for her that she didnʼt belong in the Candidacy, which meant we would not be enemies in any kind of way.”

”Indeed.” Great Ancestor Zenflame couldnʼt help but look up, appearing to reminiscence, ”Her popularity was so high that she was ranked first in the Twelve Celestial Fairy Ranking that created an uproar back then. The men who stood at the apex tried to earn her favor, including us- hehem, but there was one who was always ahead of us in terms of power and status.”

”The Azure Dragon?” Davis responded.

”Thatʼs right.” Great Ancestor Rocksunderʼs expression became complicated, ”He was too strong and was capable of suppressing us dragons with bloodline pressure, even me. However, it seems like he wasnʼt able to successfully court the Divine Saintess since we assume sheʼs still here.”

”…”

Suppressing the first inheritor who had a pure bloodline? Davis felt that was pretty sick.

On the other hand, Great Ancestor Zenflame gave Great Ancestor Rocksunder a strange look before returning his gaze and shaking his head.

”Nonetheless, the fact that youʼre here means that Saintess Lunaria more or less approved of your presence. She is a true immortal fairy who deserves all the luck in the world, and that directly translates into protecting Divergents, which makes us believe thatʼs why youʼre still alive.”

ʼWhat the… sheʼs practically an Anarchic Divergent herself...ʼ

Davis thought but didnʼt say it. However, being a Divergent and still managing to be popular in a not-so-infamous way like him and earning the trust of many by just existing and doing her work as a Divine Saintess long back, he wanted to know how she was fooling the heavens all this time.

ʼDoes she have a similar artifact like Fallen Heaven to mitigate this problem?ʼ

Davis wondered but remembering that she was also a person of immense control as she practically threw Fallen Heaven away, he could see why she would garner so much love and respect from the people of the world.

”Your expression also tells us that you have met the Saintess. Am I right?”

”…”

Davis simply smiled, not saying anything. The two of them also shrugged, thinking they were right. They conversed a bit more, but it only contained more praises for Saintess Lunaria and the Aurora Cloud Gate that she later established. From this, Davis was finally able to piece the puzzle of why they would try to trust his words from the start and choose to invest.

Obviously, it was not because of him but because of the person who ruled the Aurora Cloud Gate from the shadows. They had some idea over why the Aurora Cloud Gate would be able to protect the inheritors, perhaps even better than them.
