I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 844, Keep Holding Hands Forever

“I roughly understand. This fuse is an extremely crucial thing. Shaman, however, what exactly is a fuse?” Sha Lan asked, puzzled.

Sha Lan tried her best to contemplate Su Bai’s words and had already grasped quite a bit.

However, there were still very many obscure terms she did not understand. After all, they were all modern vocabulary.

“You could say the fuse is the key that unlocks the cannonball’s power.”

Seeing the girls looking somewhat stunned, Su Bai continued explaining, “Where the cannonball detonates, what time it detonates, basically all depends on the fuse.”

Actually, the fuse’s primary triggering method utilised the inertial force at the instant the cannonball left the barrel. When the cannonball flew at extreme speed, the fuse was in a ready-to-fire state.

Once the fired cannonball touched the target, the fuse activated and the gunpowder would ignite and explode.

Moreover, the fuse would have multiple safety mechanisms, preventing the cannonball from exploding due to slight vibrations during routine transportation.

“So that’s how it is. However, Shaman, what is a key?” Sha Lan asked curiously.

Sha Lan didn’t know what a key was. After all, the Primitive Era had no such thing as locks.

“A key is similar to when we want to close the Tribe’s main gate. After closing it, we place those large logs behind the door.” Su Bai gave an example that existed in this era.

The Flame Dragon Tribe’s main gate would close every time night arrived. The closing method was also extremely simple, taking several logs and hanging them behind the door.

Behind the door, two rows each had two hooks. One large log after another hung horizontally on these two rows of hooks. Apart from preventing the Tribe’s people from secretly going into the very dangerous forest, it was also to guard against attacks from other Tribes or Ferocious Beasts.

“Oh! I understand now. Shaman, the ammunition’s explosion is similar to our main gate. If we want to open the door, we need to remove that log, correct?” Sha Lan instantly understood.

“You could say that.” Su Bai nodded with satisfaction.

Indeed, the girls were still extremely intelligent. Moreover, they were also extremely eager to learn.

“Shaman, I still have one question. After igniting the fuse, won’t it be extremely hot inside the cannon barrel?” Yan Hua still had some doubts.

“Of course, after ignition, the barrel will definitely be hot and will be in a high-temperature state.” Su Bai nodded.

“If that’s the case, Shaman, then why won’t the ammunition be detonated under high-temperature?” Yan Hua curiously scratched her cheek.

“This is also very simple. Watch.”

Su Bai walked to the hearth, rapidly swinging his hand back and forth over the flames, asking, “See, has my hand caught fire or been burned? So this is the same principle.”

“I understand now.” Yan Hua instantly felt enlightened.

Up until now, all the doubts in Yan Hua’s heart had been completely resolved. Her mood instantly became extremely good.

“However, all of this must have experimentation as its premise. If the experiments don’t succeed, no matter how excellent our theories are, they’re useless.” Su Bai said indifferently.

Actually, he was still somewhat worried, because manufacturing cannons wasn’t something that could be casually made.

“En. I’ll go give these to the workshop right away and have them start studying it.” Sha Lan temporarily left, turning around and departing the Yong’an Building.

The Flame Dragon Tribe now already had many workshops: workshops specifically made to produce glass, workshops specifically made to produce linen… ceramics, wine, and such.

However, these could all be worked at after learning a little. But one workshop definitely stood out in requiring true talent.

That was the research workshop. Everyone inside had been meticulously selected.

Their intellect ranked amongst the Tribe’s foremost. Like the previous manual firearms, they had researched them.

Su Bai would hand over much work to them in later stages, because in future, there would be many things requiring research.

“Shaman, can we truly create cannons?” Yan Hua suddenly asked.

She was still extremely worried about the eternal night. Last year, they had luckily just developed new weapons. Otherwise, there would have been no way to repel those Ferocious Beasts.

However, Yan Hua was still extremely uneasy, because last year’s frenzied Ferocious Beasts were extremely different from before.

Moreover, the species that appeared were all types that hadn’t appeared previously. Most were of Mix Blood.

Their ferocity level was several times more ferocious than previous Ferocious Beasts. What if this year’s Ferocious Beasts became extremely exaggerated again?

These were all matters Yan Hua worried about, particularly seeing the Tribe becoming increasingly prosperous.

If the Tribe were still in its previous state, simply relocating anywhere else would be fine. However, now the Tribe had already developed stably. Moreover, in this location, so many cement houses and such had already been constructed.

Yan Hua had already developed feelings for this place. Abandoning this place would be extremely difficult.

“Why can’t we? It’s merely a question of time. I trust that we can definitely achieve it.” Su Bai reassured.

He could sense the other party’s unease and also sense the other party’s panic. This situation had already persisted since some time ago.

However, he also understood. Actually, sometimes he would also worry about the Flame Dragon Tribe encountering some formidable enemies.

Particularly encountering some formidable enemies that couldn’t be dealt with at the current stage. Wouldn’t the Tribe they had worked so hard to develop until now have to be handed over to others again?

Even he, who understood comparatively more knowledge and could handle some emergent situations, would worry, let alone others.

However, this was also why he wanted to research cannons. No matter how formidable the enemy, they definitely couldn’t withstand them.

“Shaman, I will definitely strive to become stronger. I’ll also lead the Warriors and soldiers to become stronger. I’ll definitely protect the Tribe well.” Yan Hua instantly became serious.

She couldn’t continue being afraid like this. Rather than passively worrying about the Tribe being attacked, better to proactively become stronger.

“En. I’ll accompany you all in becoming stronger. Our Flame Dragon Tribe won’t be invaded.” Su Bai suddenly grasped Yan Hua’s hand.

He wanted to more directly encourage the other party. At least under current circumstances, the Flame Dragon Tribe was still comparatively formidable.

Setting aside recurve bows, the Flame Dragon Tribe now possessed gunpowder and rifles, already leading other Tribes by a considerable margin.

No Tribe’s people could withstand firearms, unless the other party had an impregnable shell.

“Shaman…”

Yan Hua was somewhat startled. She hadn’t expected the other party would suddenly grasp her hand.

“Don’t worry. Our firearm teams will have an easy time dealing with other Tribes. Moreover, there’s still time before the snow season.”

Su Bai didn’t release her hand, continuing, “During this period, cannons will definitely be successfully made.”

“Yes.” Yan Hua instantly felt particularly warm.

She also didn’t hurry to withdraw her hand, instead allowing it to be tightly grasped by that other hand.

Her heart suddenly sprouted the thought of wanting to keep holding his hand forever.
