I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 829, The Ability to Discern Direction

Translator: Silavin

Within the dense primitive forest, a large group of people were making their way towards the Flame Dragon Tribe.

At this moment, the primitive forest was experiencing a light drizzle. The primitive forest was like this, even the weather was unpredictable.

Not to mention everything else within the forest. Everyone advanced with extreme caution.

No one dared to lower their guard, because even if there were no Ferocious Beasts nearby, they could very well be killed by various plants.

It was just that tragic. Therefore, entering the forest was actually an extremely risky choice.

If one did not possess sufficient strength, it really wasn’t recommended to enter the forest.

The people heading towards the Flame Dragon Tribe this time were from the Spotted Deer Tribe. Their purpose this time was to negotiate with the Flame Dragon Tribe.

Rather than calling it a negotiation, it would be more accurate to say they were requesting the other party to save the Spotted Deer Tribe.

After all, the current Spotted Deer Tribe was becoming increasingly… dull. All the people had been drawn away by the Flame Dragon Tribe.

The Spotted Deer Tribe’s market was extremely desolate. Not many people were willing to go to that side now. Everyone had chosen to go to the Flame Dragon Tribe’s Central Market, even though the prices required there were far higher.

But these people were all very willing, because the quality of the goods made them feel it was worthwhile.

“Xiu, how much longer do we need to walk before we arrive?” Lu Lin asked curiously.

Although she had already been to the Flame Dragon Tribe twice, Lu Lin’s ability to discern direction was still very poor. If she were placed alone in this dense primitive forest, even if no Ferocious Beasts came over, or even if she didn’t fall into any traps.

Lu Lin still wouldn’t be able to retreat safely from this forest. There was no other reason than this young woman was extremely directionally challenged.

So even though she had been to the Flame Dragon Tribe so many times, she would still repeatedly ask questions like how much longer it would take to arrive, or which direction they should go.

“Didn’t you just ask this morning? If we hurry, we can arrive before nightfall,” Xiu said indifferently.

He didn’t want to criticise Lu Lin’s ability to discern direction. Who asked her not to be a Warrior?

Who asked her to be the Chieftain’s Daughter? Pampered and spoiled in the Tribe since childhood, how would she understand the ability to discern direction in the forest?

The reason Warriors knew how to discern direction was because they had to start training this ability from childhood.

The responsibilities Warriors had to shoulder were extremely great. Not only did they have to protect the entire Tribe, but they also had to go hunting for food in the dangerous forests outside the Tribe.

In such a vast, dense primitive forest, if one didn’t quickly master the ability to discern direction, there was no way they would allow Warriors to leave the Tribe.

Even if they did allow these Warriors to leave the Tribe, these Warriors wouldn’t be able to survive for very long, possibly not even lasting for a day.

Besides the daily essential skill training, the ability to discern direction in the forest was also essential training for Warriors. Those who did not qualify could never become Warriors either.

“Then, let’s hurry up. I really don’t want to spend the night in this strange forest,” Lu Lin couldn’t help but shiver.

She really didn’t like entering the forest. The messy trees, the messy rocks, and so on, all these things make one feel on edge. The last time when passing through a pile of rocks, several large snakes had emerged from within the stones. Moreover, the colours of these several snakes were almost identical to the stones. If the Warriors hadn’t discovered them in time, they would likely have been swallowed alive by these snakes.

“En.” Xiu didn’t say much more.

He turned back and gave the Warriors a look, signalling them to depart more quickly.

*Step step step…*

Time passed minute by minute. The rain in the sky kept falling continuously, though it fell in patches across different areas.

After Lu Lin and the others crossed through one section of forest, they discovered it wasn’t raining, but after walking just a few steps, they found it had started raining ahead.

However, everyone was already accustomed to this. They hadn’t discarded the large leaves they held in their hands, keeping them ready for sheltering from rain at any moment.

The sky grew darker and darker. A cold, clear moon slowly hung itself in the high sky. Lu Lin and the others continued advancing.

“Didn’t you say we could arrive before nightfall? Why are we still in the forest?” Lu Lin asked in confusion.

She was feeling a bit cold now, most likely due to the rain and the fact that it was now night.

Lu Lin was wrapped in a large Beast Hide garment, which made walking rather inconvenient.

“Because of the rain, the ground is quite slippery, so we’ve been walking more slowly.” Xiu looked up at the sky, then observed the surrounding environment before asking, “How about we rest around here for the night?”

Moving around in the dark might cause them to be in more danger.

“Why stop? Don’t stop. Let’s push on a bit more.” Lu Lin pouted.

She really did not want to stay in the forest. Danger was secondary. Most importantly, now that it had rained, the surrounding environment was all sticky.

Once this kind of humid environment developed, it would attract very many crawling insects. Lu Lin hated these creatures.

For instance, centipedes with many legs, caterpillars covered in spikes, snakes revealing long fangs, as well as various strange crawling creatures.

When Lu Lin saw those fierce, large Ferocious Beasts, she was actually fine, because she knew the Warriors beside her would protect her. But once she saw these small crawling creatures, Lu Lin would immediately get goosebumps all over her body.

“Understood. We’ll continue advancing. It should only take about the time to kill two Ferocious Beasts.” Xiu said with a solemn expression.

When Warriors calculated travelling time, most would use half a day or a day. For example, for shorter durations, they would use killing several Ferocious Beasts to represent the time.

Because slaughtering a Ferocious Beast wasn’t a particularly quick matter. From killing to processing and roasting over fire all required considerable time.

Approximately, the time to kill one Ferocious Beast was one hour. This was the Warriors’ most basic method of calculating time.

He too did not want to spend the night outside the forest either, because there were truly too many things to pay attention to.

Most importantly, he had already stayed at the Flame Dragon Tribe before. Now that they were so close to the Flame Dragon Tribe, his heart naturally very much wanted to go to the place where he had previously slept.

*Step step step…*

Everyone rallied their spirits, took up the dried meat and other items they carried with them, and began advancing in the darkness.

After approximately three and a half hours, Lu Lin and the others began to see the edge of the Flame Dragon Tribe.

There was no helping it. The weather truly was not cooperative. Combined with the fact that it was now pitch black, they could only advance slowly while holding torches.

If the current time were daytime, they probably wouldn’t need to spend so much time.

“The Flame Dragon Tribe is just ahead. We can finally have a good sleep.” Xiu breathed a sigh of relief.

“Yes, a good sleep.” Lu Lin’s anxious heart finally settled completely.

She had been extremely tense the whole time, terrified of staying overnight in the dense primitive forest.
