I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 504, Born Painter

Wen looked at the Straw Sandals on her feet with particular satisfaction, her brown eyes fixed on them. She happily swung her feet, smiling brightly. “Sister, look! These Straw Sandals are so beautiful!”

“Yes, they are beautiful, and so comfortable to wear.” Min said as she lifted her foot and put it down again to feel them.

This was what the Sisters had queued up for early in the morning, bringing their identity cards to collect. Initially, they did not believe it. This was just too good to be true. After all, it was the first time the Shaman had given away things directly. Hadn’t it always been said that only work would earn things? Why were they giving things away directly this time?

But when the two of them actually received them, they were completely surprised. They never expected to actually be given footwear, without cost!

Moreover, the footwear looked very nice, and the quality was even better. The feeling of wearing them was completely different from going barefoot.

“Sister, why did the Shaman directly give them to us this time?” Wen innocently asked.

Although the little girl was very young and did not need to work yet, she also knew the rules of the Flame Dragon Tribe.

After all, it applied to all Tribes: people who do not work would not get food. The little girl very clearly remembered the rule that there was no gain without labour.

After all, only her Sister worked between the two of them, and the food she could exchange for was very little. The two of them could only share it, so the little girl remembered this rule very clearly.

“I don’t know either, but the Shaman must have his reasons.” Min shook her head. The young woman did not understand it either. She only knew that when she received the news, she was also very surprised and brought her identity card out with half-belief and half-doubt.

However, she was also shocked when she first received this identity card, never expecting the Tribe would start using such things.

She had been instructed that a small wooden board could not be lost, as losing it would mean no longer being a member of the Flame Dragon Tribe. If it was accidentally lost, one must apply for a replacement immediately.

This was so novel that it seemed absurd.

She had also heard that this identity card would be very useful in the future, for housing allocation, food distribution, and so on.

“But I must say, these are the most beautiful footwear I’ve ever seen.” Wen said happily.

“Hehe…” Min covered her cherry-like small mouth, laughing especially sweetly, and said softly: “How old are you? How many have you seen? I’m afraid you don’t even know what other footwear looks like.”

The Sister was truly amused by her Little Sister’s innocence and her adult-like tone.

“Hehe…” Wen tucked in her head, smiling: “Sister, you must have seen many before. Are these the most beautiful ones?”

“Yes,” Min nodded without hesitation and continued. “These are indeed the most beautiful.”

When the Sister first received these Straw Sandals, she was amazed by both the craftsmanship and appearance. She never imagined that as footwear, these Straw Sandals could be so beautiful. They were just ordinary footwear  woven from vines or grass, yet they could be made in so many different patterns.

“Sister, let me work too, so we won’t go hungry.” Wen immediately said.

After receiving these Straw Sandals, the Little Sister became even more determined to work.

“No. You’re too young. You still need to learn to read and write properly first. I’ll handle the work alone for now.” Min flatly refused.

The Older Sister had been working at the Linen Workshop. After being picked and undergoing a trial, she started working there.

She got picked for this sensitive task because she looked harmless and had an obedient personality. Plus, their original Tribe had already been destroyed, so there was no harm in letting her work at the Linen Workshop.

Most importantly, she was very skilled with her hands, and the linen she made was both fine and beautiful.

“But, but…” Wen became a bit stuttery when excited. After calming down, she continued. “But relying on just you is really hard.”

Every day, the Little Sister saw how her Older Sister had pretended to be full so that she could eat more, which was heartbreaking. Sometimes, even when her stomach was growling with hunger, she would still insist she was full, because the food simply was not enough for both of them to share, so that was all she could do.

Of course, the Little Sister would sometimes do the same, saying she had no appetite or did not want to eat. However, she was often caught by her Older Sister, who would force her to eat more. So, this trick would normally backfire.

“Still no. With your small frame, what work can you do? Many jobs aren’t suitable for you.” Min directly refused.

Although providing food for both of them by herself was a bit tiring, her Little Sister really could not work right now.

“I can do anything. I can help build houses and other things.” Wen said, acting precocious.

“You, you, just be good, stay here and study.” Min tapped her on the nose.

“But now I have new footwear, I can go outside without hurting my feet.” Wen swung her legs again.

Previously, the Sister’s excuse for not letting her Little Sister out was because she had no footwear, and the Tribe was currently building houses and paving roads, which could easily hurt her feet.

But now this excuse did not hold up anymore, because they both had new footwear.

“Even if you go out, you can only stay nearby, and don’t cause trouble for others, understand?” Min cautioned.

She was most worried about her Little Sister causing trouble for others. After all, they were not originally from this Tribe and needed to gradually integrate, so they could not cause trouble for others.

“I understand. I will be very good.” Wen smiled with eyes narrowed.

“Let’s go. I’ll take you out for a walk to see how the Tribe has changed.” Min said.

“I already know. I can see it every day when I go to class.” Wen grumbled.

Apparently, her Sister really treated her like a child, forgetting that she went to class every day.

Every day, she walked around the Tribe. How could she not see the changes in the Tribe?

“Oh right, I almost forgot. What did you learn today?” Min asked.

Every day when she returned, the Older Sister would ask about her lessons to see how much she had learned.

“Sister, you know I’m quite good at drawing, right? I wonder if the Shaman needs people who can draw?” Wen suddenly said.

The Little Sister’s greatest talent was drawing, but at most she would only draw on the ground.

But even so, the patterns she drew were very beautiful, like she was a born painter.

“Don’t even think about it. Why would the Shaman need that? Quickly show me what words you learned today.” Min immediately dismissed the idea.

“Okay.” Wen slowly took out a Wolf Tail Grass Notebook.
