I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 591, Fear of Being Slapped in the Face

It was now late into the snow season, and all the Tribes were making intensive preparations for the eternal night.

“Shaman, the people at the workshop say the firearms are ready.” Sha Lan said after returning to the Yong’an Building.

Sha Lan had received this news first thing this morning after training and had excitedly rushed back to the Yong’an Building to report.

After hearing this, Su Bai stood up at once, suppressing his excitement as he said, “Let’s go and have a look.”

He had waited for such a long time. Finally, the firearms were ready. Fortunately, the snow season had not yet ended so the Warriors still had time for training. As long as he inspected those firearms today and found no issues, he could have them begin training.

*Step step step…*

Everyone left the Yong’an Building and headed towards the workshop. The workshop that manufactured firearms was called the military workshop, where various weapons of the Tribe were made.

Su Bai and the others got into a carriage after leaving the Yong’an Building and headed straight for the military workshop. They arrived at the entrance of the military workshop in just over ten minutes.

“Shaman, the firearm you requested has been perfectly manufactured.” Tai looked excited.

He was specifically responsible for manufacturing weapons at the military workshop and was an old friend of Gu Mu’s. He was also over sixty years old.

A pair of sheep horns on his head was particularly conspicuous, and his long white hair was tied up. Although he was getting on in years, his pair of green eyes were still exceptionally spirited.

Moreover, his frame stood very straight without the slightest hunch. If not for his greying hair, people would believe he was in his thirties.

Being an old friend of Gu Mu’s, his craftsmanship was also exceptional. He had wandered outside with Sha Hong and others, always wanting to return to the Flame Dragon Tribe.

After returning to the Tribe and receiving the job of managing the military workshop, he immediately became energetic again.

When he was recently given the task of manufacturing firearms, he accepted it without hesitation and had been developing them until now.

“Show me.” Su Bai said immediately. He was naturally very curious how a Primitive Tribe would recreate hot weapons.

“Yes.” Tai immediately went into the workshop and brought out a firearm that had been perfected today.

Actually, the prototype of the firearm had been more or less ready a few days ago, but because it required constant experimentation, via trial and error, it took several more days. Today’s firearm could be said to have reached its most suitable state.

Su Bai took the firearm and began examining it. The overall appearance of it was not much different from those on Earth—a long barrel paired with a wooden handle.

The long streamlined shape plus the smooth transition of the handle made it look like a tree branch, and there was also a mechanism at the connection between the wooden handle and the barrel.

The manufacturing principle of the firearm was not too difficult either. Pulling the trigger would force the flint to slide down and strike, creating sparks. This would cause the stored gunpowder inside to blow, releasing the objects inside.

However, this process was rather troublesome. After firing each bullet, gunpowder had to be refilled before a second shot could be fired.

But all of this could be practiced. Once proficient, its lethality would be unequalled.

“The overall appearance is what I had imagined it to be. Now, we need to test its power.” Su Bai said with satisfaction.

This firearm being made so well was somewhat beyond his expectations.

Although the firing principle of firearms was not particularly difficult to understand, the difficulty lay in manufacturing the barrel as well as connecting the barrel and wooden handle. In short, all aspects of it were quite challenging to manufacture.

“Shaman, we can go outside the Tribe to try it. We already tested it this morning and there were no problems.” Tai said.

When the firearms had just been perfected this morning, to avoid having the Shaman come for nothing, Tai had taken people outside the Tribe to test it himself. The result, something inconceivable. The power of the firearm left them all dumbfounded.

“Good.” Su Bai nodded, then turned his head to give instructions. “Go call the Chieftain and Cang Shi here. They need to see the power of the firearm.”

He wanted all the Totem Warriors to have a good look, after all this was the weapon they would use to deal with Ferocious Beasts in the future.

“Yes.” After Sha Lan responded, she turned to go get them.

…

*Step step step…*

Everyone got into carriages again and headed outside the Tribe, taking over half an hour to reach the outside of the tribe.

Fortunately, there was the assistance of carriages, otherwise it would take the group at least an hour to walk from the centre of the Tribe to the outside.

“Shaman, I heard you’ve manufactured a weapon that is lethal to Ferocious Beasts.” Yan Jiao asked.

He had heard some rumours about this but did not know what kind of weapon it was.

Research at the military workshop had always been coordinated directly with the Shaman, so it was quite normal for others to not know about their projects.

“Yes, this weapon is called a firearm. Coming here today is to test the power of the firearm.” Su Bai nodded.

He observed the firearm in his hands, holding it to aim at distant trees, preparing for the test.

“So this is the firearm we heard about?” Yan Jiao kept curiously examining the firearm.

This was his first time actually seeing the real thing. What great power could a small wooden stick have? It was really incomprehensible.

“Can this thing really work against Ferocious Beasts?” Cang Shi was also very puzzled, thinking that this long piece of wood would not be as useful as a Crocodile Blade.

“Well, who knows about the things the Shaman invents? Didn’t everyone question gunpowder last time?” Sha Hong said from the side.

She now dared not underestimate this firearm. Otherwise, everyone would be slapped in the face like last time, which would be ridiculous. [We should all just believe in the Shaman.]

“That’s true, we can’t draw conclusions without seeing what it can do.” Yan Jiao thought of the previous incident. He had been extremely ashamed at that time.

When he saw gunpowder for the first time, his face was full of disdain, thinking in his heart that these things were hardly useful.

“Right, I almost forgot about that… This firearm seemed to be made from ores we found, so its power definitely won’t be poor.” Cang Shi also immediately learned his lesson.

At this time, everyone dared not easily underestimate the firearm, fearing another face-slapping would occur.

“Shaman, what are you doing?” Yan Hua asked curiously, constantly seeing the Shaman looking for targets while carefully examining the firearm in his hands.

“I’m looking for a suitable target, this way, I can better demonstrate the power of the firearm.” Su Bai explained.

Just a piece of wood could not fully demonstrate the power of the firearm. The main thing was to find stones if possible.

The power of firearms was not limited to penetrating wood. Powerful firearms could even penetrate through stone, though of course this would require further development to accomplish.
