I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 569, A New Candidate for Teaching?

Translator: Silavin

Heavy snow was falling everywhere, and as far as the eye could see, everything was a vast expanse of white. The north wind howled as it swept up all the snowflakes, like dancers in the northern wind.

Su Bai stood before the glass window watching this scene, lamenting that if one were outside at this moment, it would certainly be so cold, icicles could form on the lashes.

After all, he could already feel the cold from inside the cement house, even though the cement walls helped block most of the bitter wind and the hearth was providing warmth.

But he could still feel the heavy chill. He was wearing Animal Hide clothing and a large cloak, and even felt this way, let alone others.

“Shaman, those from the workshop have already started coming to prepare to work. We should be able to have heating very soon, as long as we can find the copper ore you’ve mentioned.” Yu Ying’s soft, gentle voice rang out.

Today was the third day since the people from the Tribe had left, and they had been waiting for news.

“En, have someone go and get the hot water system set up first. We’ll be able to use the water heater for bathing in the next few days.” Su Bai said softly.

He had already prepared for the worst-case scenario and thought about what to do if Cang Shi and the others could not find copper ore.

“Okay, we’ll be able to use the shower heads very soon.” Yu Ying was obviously a bit excited.

Su Bai stood by the window watching for quite a while before returning to the table to handle some matters.

He opened several sheets of materials he had prepared the night before and murmured to himself, “After several months of studying, they’ve already mastered quite a lot. It’s time to change some of the teaching materials.”

During the snow season, he taught those children with higher frequency, because at this time, no one could do much of anything else and there was nowhere to go. Naturally, he made use of this.

He planned to focus heavily on teaching during every snow season in the future. With such cold weather, gathering around the hearth to warm themselves while studying was certainly the best way to pass the time. And those children were also very willing to learn, after all, in such cold weather they did not know where else they could go. They certainly could not play outside.

Most importantly, if they made progress in their studies, they could also receive dried meat and Animal Hide, which was undoubtedly their greatest motivation for learning. So, those children who usually loved to play and make noise would all become serious at this time.

During the snow season, their Families could not go out to work and obtain large amounts of food, so at this time they could only rely on their studying to exchange for more dried meat.

Although they were children, having stayed in a Primitive Tribe for a long time, they had a strong sense of responsibility. At this time, they were naturally willing to help their Families share some of the burden, not to mention that studying was also beneficial for them.

“Shaman, I recognise all the characters you’ve taught me, and I know how to write them all.” Yu Ying’s expression was exceptionally serious.

When it came to matters of this sort, Yu Ying did not dare to be careless at all, because deep down she was still very, very eager to learn. Every time she could learn, she would be extremely happy.

Yu Ying felt that apart from cooking, studying was her favourite thing to do. Every time she began studying, she would become completely immersed in it.

“Do you know how to use all those commonly used characters? Do you also know how to combine them?” Su Bai asked.

He was truly amazed by Yu Ying’s learning speed. Apart from Sha Lan, her learning was the fastest. Sometimes she could master more than ten Chinese Characters in a single day.

Several months had now passed, and it could be said that her knowledge base was very, very extensive. Now she could write many characters used in daily life. She could even write some obscure characters that were not commonly used. Although the characters she wrote might be a bit crooked, she was still learning after all.

“I know. I can write them for the Shaman to see. Those are all very simple.” Yu Ying said with complete confidence.

Yu Ying’s current appearance was vastly different from before. Now she was brimming with confidence, especially when it came to matters involving cooking or reading and writing.

“That’s fine. I’ll teach you something new. Help me look at the teaching materials while you’re at it. These are prepared to be taught to those children.” Su Bai organised the several sheets of paper in his hands and passed them over.

The characters written on these sheets of paper he had organised were all ones that Yu Ying now knew. Even if she were to become a teacher, it would be perfectly fine.

After Yu Ying took those several sheets of paper, she began to browse through them, her pink eyes blinking continuously.

She turned page after page, then looked up and said, “Shaman, these are all things I’ve studied before. They’re not too difficult, so the children should be able to easily learn them.”

When Yu Ying was learning that knowledge, it could be said she was very quick, mastering most of it in a single day. She thought that even if those children loved to play and could not think things through, they should still be able to learn all of this.

“Even if they don’t study well, they must be forced to. These are all essential knowledge for being literate.” Su Bai took a sip of hot tea.

“Shaman, can I help you? This way, you won’t be too tired. I also know all of this too.” Yu Ying suddenly volunteered.

She had been thinking about this for a long time, because her learning progress was different from those children, she would learn more and at a far faster rate. Things that required ten days for the children to learn only took three days for Yu Ying, so she had been thinking about helping the Shaman share some of his burden.

Su Bai’s thick eyebrows rose slightly as he asked in puzzlement. “Oh? You want to help me teach the children?”

“Yes, I can help. I know all of this. As long as I teach them according to how the Shaman teaches, there shouldn’t be any problems, right?” Yu Ying’s expression was still very solemn.

“Yeah, as long as you teach them according to the methods I taught you, it will be fine. The content to teach is also not that difficult.” Su Bai said.

He had originally intended to have Yu Ying help teach those children, but he had not wanted to do so too quickly, thinking to wait a while before mentioning it. He had not expected her to volunteer herself.

“Shaman, let me try it. I shouldn’t make any mistakes, and if there are any problems later, I’ll check with you.” Yu Ying still very much wanted to give it a try.

Because the Yong’an Building had recruited many people to come in, it was not as busy anymore. She only needed to be responsible for three meals each day, help the Shaman wash clothes, and then go check on the greenhouse, after which there was not much else to do.

So she thought about helping the Shaman share some more responsibilities, and the first thing that came to mind was teaching the children.

“Alright, then today’s class will be left to you.” Su Bai said.

He did not want to dampen Yu Ying’s enthusiasm either. Letting her try it out would be good, and there might be unexpected yields from this experience.

“Shaman, can you watch from the side? If there are any problems, tell me in the evening, and I’ll definitely correct them.” Yu Ying suddenly felt a bit nervous.

Her request had been accepted immediately. Although she had been longing for it in her heart, she still felt nervous at the thought of really doing it.

“No problem.” Su Bai laughed heartily.
