I Became The Chief Of A Primitive Village

Chapter 572, A Step Towards Industrialisation

Yu Ying looked at those ores while blinking her pink eyes, asking: “Shaman, can these ores be used to start making weapons?”

Yu Ying remembered the firearm that the Shaman had mentioned before, which would require the use of ores. Now that the ores had arrived, did this mean they could begin manufacturing weapons?

“Yes, with these iron ores, we can manufacture weapons to deal with the Ferocious Beasts.” Su Bai smiled.

He was both excited and somewhat apprehensive, as manufacturing firearms was certainly not an easy task.

Without professional personnel, it would be very difficult to produce them in a short time, not to mention the need to train the Warriors to use them.

“Shaman, what should we do then?” Yu Ying, though not a Warrior, was deeply concerned about the Tribe’s safety.

“We need to refine all these iron ores into molten iron, then forge them into gun barrels. The sealing of the gun barrels must be extremely tight, so that when firing bullets, the gun barrels won’t burst.” Su Bai explained professionally.

He was grateful that he still possessed knowledge of this, otherwise there would be no way to bring hot weapons to fruition in a Primitive Tribe.

“Shaman, all of this sounds really complex. It must require a lot of time to make it, right?” Yu Ying did not understand what the Shaman was saying.

“Yeah, experimentation will certainly take a very long time. But, there’s still a month remaining before the snow season ends. If all goes well, manufacturing firearms before the eternal night arrives will not be a problem.” Su Bai furrowed his brow.

Actually, he was not entirely confident in his heart either, but thought that if he followed the method he knew of, there should not be too many issues.

“Shaman, is there anything I can help with?” Yu Ying immediately offered. Since she was not a Warrior and could not contribute to defending the Tribe, she very much wanted to help with this matter.

“It’s alright. Have the workshop people take these ores to refine them. First extract the important elements, then proceed to the next step.” Su Bai instructed.

“Understood. I’ll immediately have someone fetch the workshop people to take the ores and refine them.” Yu Ying had not even finished speaking before she turned and ran off.

“…” Su Bai had just opened his mouth to say something, but Yu Ying had already disappeared from sight. He could only shake his head with a smile and let the girl go.

He himself began to lower his head and prepare to draw diagrams of the firearms, along with the essential components for manufacturing firearms.

He had also begun considering steam engines. This was, after all, something that every person who Transmigrated would definitely want to create.

This device could bring tremendous change to the Tribe and help the Tribe develop rapidly.

If a Tribe were to develop into a modern city, then industrial development would be indispensable. What was most needed for industrial development? That would be steam engines and manpower.

The former could manufacture many different things, and these things were all beyond what human labour alone could accomplish.

The latter could operate these steam engines, rapidly enabling the Tribe to reach the next stage of development.

Both were indispensable elements. It was not that Su Bai had not thought about steam engines before. It was just that the Tribe had been extremely lacking in the early stages, and the primary objective had been to reclaim the Ancestral Land. After that came the need to face the rainy season and snow season—where would there have been time to think about steam engines?

“But manufacturing steam engines is not easy. First, we must use iron to manufacture gears, so that the steam engine can operate, and we also need iron to manufacture the steam engine itself.” Su Bai murmured to himself.

He could be said to be extremely busy now, because there were many matters to consider, and they were all interconnected—each one had to be completed before the next could be undertaken.

“Once the steam engine is completed, it can be used to crush stone, which will also free up considerable manpower to do more efficient work.” Su Bai continued his muttering.

The current steam engine would be tremendously useful for the Flame Dragon Tribe. Once this miracle was manufactured, the Flame Dragon Tribe could save up on an enormous amount of manpower.

However, the most important thing was that the Flame Dragon Tribe now urgently needed to use steam engines to manufacture firearms. As for other matters, they would have to wait.

“First, I need the craftsmen to forge gears, as well as the steam engine’s iron casing and exhaust ports…” Su Bai continued writing his thoughts on Wolf Tail Grass Paper.

His greatest idea at present was to make the steam engine into a semi-automatic machine. In many novels he had read previously, steam engines were made as manual machines.

That would not only waste manpower but also waste much time, so he thought he might as well make it semi-automatic directly, which would also save a ton of manpower.

“If we’re going to make it semi-automatic, we must definitely manufacture a centrifugal governor, so that speed can be freely controlled.” Su Bai murmured to himself.

The centrifugal governor’s structure was quite simple—the main body consisted of two hinged thin rods with iron spheres welded to the ends and a rotating main rod.

To put it simply, it was very much like the bamboo-copter from his childhood. As long as one spun the bamboo stick rapidly, the two rotating blades would leave the ground due to centrifugal force and automatically take flight.

For the governor, the two iron spheres were like two fan blades. When the steam engine was working, it relied on this to regulate speed.

With the centrifugal governor, some delicate tasks could be entrusted to this steam engine, which did not need any manual inputs.

“This needs to be properly planned…” Su Bai fell into deep thought. This would certainly take a very long time to create.

He poured himself a cup of hot tea, thinking that he must complete this matter to a reasonable degree today.
