Chapter 538: Chapter 538: Breaking Genjutsu with Science

Chapter 538: Breaking Genjutsu with Science

Kenichi held the Black Rod in his hand and narrowed his eyes at the scene ahead.

There were farmers working in the fields, and a ninja was leaning against a tree trunk, eyes half closed as he dozed off, looking somewhat listless.

”Every morning, the farmers of Nagato Town are called to the fields by a ninja to work.”

Kenichi narrowed his eyes and lay quietly in the mud pit.

He could not move now.

Some sensory ninja had especially sharp perception abilities, and if he moved, it might arouse suspicion.

Although Kenichi was not sure whether the other party was a sensory ninja, he did not want to take risks.

In the early morning, the temperature was not very high, but insects had already started becoming active.

Kenichi quietly watched a spider crawl onto his hand, cleaning the dew off its body on the back of his hand.

Kenichi remained motionless.

Instead, he watched the ninja ahead.

The other party only occasionally opened his eyes to scan the farmland.

After confirming that no one was being lazy, he continued to squint and doze off.

The surrounding farmers worked numbly, and some of their exposed skin showed bruises and whip marks.

Kenichi knew that these were inflicted by the ninja.

As long as the ninja thought a farmer was not working hard enough, he would casually whip and punish them.

Kenichi had already seen no fewer than four farmers subjected to such physical punishment.

”One ninja, a group of farmers...”

Kenichi looked at those numb people, calculating something in his mind.

These oppressed people might not become his helpers.

They might even become his enemies.

Kenichi knew very well that not every oppressed person dared to resist.

Sometimes, when faced with help from others, they would turn around and help those who oppressed them.

Kenichi had been scouting here for the past three days.

He had now confirmed that this ninja would come to supervise every day, then rest against the tree in the center of the farmland every day, supervising these farmers until they finished the rice, and then escorting them back.

It had been like this for three consecutive days.

The spider crawled along Kenichi’s arm toward his ear.

It seemed to be interested in Kenichi’s ear.

Kenichi felt a little helpless.

These little things really would crawl into ear holes to live, and he did not want to use his ears to raise spiders.

But just as Kenichi was about to clean it off, the spider returned to the ground, making Kenichi breathe a sigh of relief.

”I need a ninja’s corpse.”

Kenichi looked at the distant ninja, silently contemplating his plan.

Genjutsu was not unsolvable.

Although genjutsu could cover many aspects, there were some areas it could not cover.

For example, it could not reproduce all the atoms that made up a person, nor all the information inside the body.

As long as this flaw could be found, then there would be a breakthrough.

Although those ninja had not forced the townspeople to quarry stone and cut trees during these past few days, Kenichi, who sensed danger, resolutely chose to change his residence.

During these three days, besides monitoring this ninja, he spent the rest of his time digging tunnels.

Of course, he was not digging in the cave, but in another forest.

Konan was also helping him.

They had already dug out a small underground space large enough for him and Konan to lie down in.

He reinforced the place with wood to ensure safety, but it was still some distance from being comfortable enough to live in.

Kenichi needed to quickly break free from the control of this genjutsu.

So he needed a ninja’s corpse to glimpse the flaws in the genjutsu.

Kenichi had thought about digging up Konan’s mother’s corpse for research.

But after so many days, Konan’s mother’s corpse must have already decomposed.

Thinking of this, Kenichi gave up on the idea.

The ninja left, driving the farmers like a shepherd driving his flock toward the distant town.

”Five thousand seven hundred and thirty two heartbeats.”

Kenichi touched his heart.

He was using his heartbeat to count time.

When lying still, unless his emotions fluctuated violently, his heart rate would not change much.

Kenichi thought for a moment.

In the previous two days, the number of heartbeats he calculated had also been close to this value, sometimes slightly exceeding it, with a fluctuation of about five hundred beats.

However, the other party was clearly somewhat wary of the previous landmine attack.

Kenichi found that the other party would check every time he passed by.

But this time, Kenichi also did not intend to use landmines to kill this ninja.

He needed to dissect the ninja’s corpse.

Obviously, if he killed him with landmines, he would only get dismembered remains, which would not work.

So Kenichi needed something else to kill the ninja while also ensuring the integrity of the body.

Kenichi slowly retreated.

He needed to conceptualize in his mind how to kill that ninja, and then how to bring the body back for dissection.

It had to be said that this requirement was a bit difficult, but it was not impossible.

When Kenichi returned to the place where he was digging the tunnel, he knocked on a patch of grass.

Immediately, Konan pushed open the clods of earth above her head and looked happily at Kenichi.

Kenichi also smiled when he saw Konan, then burrowed into the tunnel.

The tunnel led to a small square space.

It was very small.

At least Kenichi could not stand up yet.

He could only squat, but it was much safer than before.

Kenichi had already decided to abandon that cave.

However, he had also left some small surprises there.

If someone really noticed something unusual about that cave, then once they pushed it open, a huge surprise would be waiting for them.

”I never thought I would miss living in a cave someday.”

Kenichi smelled the earthy scent in the air and could not help sighing.

What people feared most was comparison.

When living in the cave, Kenichi missed his past life in the orphanage.

But now that he was in the tunnel, he began to miss life in the cave.

At least the cave was relatively cool, unlike this tunnel, which was stiflingly hot.

But Kenichi had no choice.

”Come on, Konan. Let’s continue expanding this place.”

Kenichi chuckled and rubbed Konan’s head.

Konan obediently nodded, then took the small iron shovel Kenichi had made for her and started digging.

The dug out earth would be transported out later.

It would be useless to dig without clearing it out.

There were many insects underground, and it was very hot.

But Konan wiped her sweat and happily worked with Kenichi.

Kenichi looked at Konan, feeling a bit complicated.

Thankfully, he had not actually taken out Konan’s mother’s remains for dissection.

”Konan, what do you want to eat later?”

Kenichi smiled as he looked at Konan and asked.

Although life was hard, one always had to learn to adjust, did they not?

Finding joy in suffering could prevent one’s mood from becoming too depressed.

Kenichi did not want the future Konan to become a bitter and resentful replica of Sasuke.

”I... I want to eat...”

Konan was a bit shy.

Kenichi looked at the steam in front of him, his eyes somewhat dazed.

He had not expected that what Konan wanted to eat was hot white bread.

Seeing young Konan say this with a greedy tone, Kenichi almost could not hold back.

After all, in his previous life, eating something hot was a very simple matter.

If he did not want to cook, he could even order takeout.

But now?

Now Konan, a child, only wanted a hot meal?

Damn war.

So Kenichi went out to clear away the mud and heat up the white bread for Konan.

However, to make it easier for Konan to eat and less taxing on her teeth, Kenichi chose to steam it, which would make the white bread softer.

”Steam...”

Kenichi looked at the steam in front of him, but some strange thoughts floated into his mind.

He thought of something interesting.

Scientists had originally believed that clouds and fog formed when water vapor rose and encountered dust, forming condensation nuclei, which then created clouds and fog.

After all, the existence of clouds and fog often required condensation nuclei.

But later, a scientist proposed a new idea, and his argument was successfully proven.

And he also won the Nobel Prize in Physics.

”That thing is...”

Kenichi suddenly stood up.

He remembered.

The Wilson cloud chamber.

A device that created supersaturated water vapor.

Its greatest use was actually to study things invisible to the naked eye, such as radiation or high energy charged particles.

Radiation formed condensation nuclei in this supersaturated water vapor, creating a specific shape.

Through this shape, invisible radiation or particles could be studied.

This was also a method for detecting radiation.

Kenichi had made this thing before, but he remembered it now because he thought of a problem.

The Wilson cloud chamber was knowledge from his previous life.

Otsutsuki Isshiki would definitely not know about it.

Could this become a loophole in the entire genjutsu?

Kenichi was a little excited.

The principle of the Wilson cloud chamber was to create supersaturated water vapor through sufficiently low temperature and low pressure.

Supersaturated water vapor could form condensation nuclei due to the action of ions, thereby turning into clouds and fog.

Compared to a radiation detector that required more alloys and higher technical content, this Wilson cloud chamber would be relatively simpler.

First, a sealed space was needed.

Then a large amount of water had to evaporate and condense.

Then, with Konan’s chakra, perhaps the chakra fluctuations could be seen.

But Otsutsuki Isshiki clearly should not know about it.

So building a Wilson cloud chamber might allow Kenichi to escape the influence of this genjutsu.

Kenichi rummaged through the items Otsutsuki Isshiki had once bought and found alcohol and sponges.

As for dry ice, there was none, but there was saltpeter.

Kenichi locally sourced some ice.

Although the effect was not ideal, he had no better option.

He soaked the sponge he had bought for washing dishes with alcohol, allowing the sponge to absorb enough alcohol.

Then he connected it to electrodes for heating, causing the alcohol to evaporate, and then cooled it with ice to form condensed supersaturated water vapor.

Kenichi carried this small instrument back into the tunnel.

Now, the conditions for a Wilson cloud chamber were met inside.

It was time to verify his conclusion.

”Konan, now condense your chakra to your fingertip and bring it close to this thing.”

Kenichi placed it under the ventilation hole of the tunnel room, observing it with the light.

Konan had just finished her white bread.

She immediately walked over.

Then the small white light appeared again as Konan’s finger approached the Wilson cloud chamber he had made.

A wonderful scene unfolded.

The mist condensed together.

Although it was very faint, Kenichi saw a magnificent scene.

The mist formed a strange shape, somewhat like a snowflake, but with many spreading branches.

But in the next second, the entire machine seemed to stutter, then suddenly stopped running.

The entire machine also twisted continuously, and then the whole world began to distort.

Kenichi’s face held a hint of a mocking smile.

Although Otsutsuki Isshiki’s genjutsu was powerful, its flaws were also very obvious.

But in the next second, the entire world suddenly returned to normal.

Kenichi was stunned.

”Amamiya-nii-san, here.”

Konan’s words interrupted Kenichi’s contemplation.

He looked up.

Konan tore off a piece of white bread and handed it to Kenichi.

Kenichi smiled and took it, then took a bite.

It was a bit sour, but still edible.

”What does Konan want to do in the future?”

Kenichi looked at Konan and asked with a smile.

He was not disheartened.

He had found a way to deal with genjutsu.

He just needed to get the ninja’s corpse, then do the previous experiment.

Otherwise, if Kenichi wanted to develop in the Land of Rain, which was full of ninja, then unless Hanzo was blind and completely ignored him, Kenichi would not be able to replicate some of his previous experiments.

So he could only do some relatively simple experiments.

Before he had enough strength, Kenichi could only hide himself and seize every opportunity to develop and grow.

”I... I want to stay with Amamiya-nii-san.”

Konan tilted her head in thought, then showed a big smile.

Kenichi was a bit dumbfounded, but he still patted Konan’s head.

Then he picked up the shovel.

No matter what, he had to dig out this underground dwelling today.

Otherwise, he would not sleep well at night.

”Then tonight, big brother will make you something delicious.”

Kenichi smiled.

He thought of the eggs he had bought earlier.

Those eggs might not last much longer if not used now.

For him, letting an egg go bad would be a huge waste.

”Okay!”

Konan smiled happily, then took the shovel and worked hard with Kenichi to dig the earth.
