Naruto: Orochimaru's Disciple

Chapter 531: Chapter 531: This World Is Sick

Chapter 531: This World Is Sick

If Kenichi were asked for his opinion of this world, he could only say one thing.

The Shinobi World was sick.

A mad world.

A world with an incomplete setting, to the point that after a transmigrator arrived, many things would feel wrong.

Not long after Kenichi arrived in this world, he confirmed one thing.

This world was already sick.

Thoroughly sick.

Madly sick.

This world had contracted a disease called ninja.

The reason he said this was because, at that time, Kenichi was just an ordinary person.

Just like he was now.

”Otsutsuki Isshiki, that bastard can use genjutsu? And his genjutsu ability is this outstanding? How did that beast do it?”

Kenichi looked at his small hands, then tried to mobilize the chakra inside his body.

But the chakra showed no reaction.

Using ninjutsu was still useless.

However, Kenichi’s cheat system was still operating normally, which made him realize that he had not returned to the past in some dramatic fashion.

Instead, he had fallen under Otsutsuki Isshiki’s genjutsu.

That was why he had become like this.

Thinking of this, Kenichi’s mouth twitched.

This period could be called the most vulnerable and terrifying time since Kenichi had arrived in the Shinobi World.

Because at that time, Kenichi had not yet discovered his cheat system.

He was just an ordinary person.

Unable to become stronger.

Unable to survive properly in this sick world.

”This world is sick.”

In Konoha, in the Land of Fire, Kenichi sighed inwardly as he watched an uncle who had merely bumped into a ninja by accident get stomped on the head and forced to kneel in the mud.

The man could only cry and beg for mercy.

Originally, transmigrating into the Shinobi World as an unborn infant had somewhat surprised Kenichi.

After that, he had even felt a little joy.

After all, he had also wanted to become a powerful ninja who gathered great power into himself.

But tragically, although he had been born in Konoha, his parents died young and were not ninja.

They did not leave much savings behind either, so he ended up in a terrible place like an orphanage.

But life did not stop joking with him.

It smiled and pushed Kenichi into the abyss.

In the qualification exam to test whether one could become a ninja, Kenichi, who had been full of anxiety at the time, was judged incapable of refining chakra.

What did this mean?

It meant that he would never be able to become a ninja in this lifetime.

Let alone become a powerful ninja like Six Paths Madara, Naruto, or Sasuke in the future.

Kenichi, who had waited so many years, saw all his hopes turn to dust at that moment.

At that moment, Kenichi’s mentality collapsed.

He was not a ninja.

He did not even have the qualifications to become one.

He could only live out his life as an ordinary person.

When he left the orphanage, he would probably just be an ordinary civilian.

Living in Konoha would be decent, after all, Konoha was relatively safe.

But he would still need to be wary of the Nine-Tails’ attack and Nagato coming to cause trouble in the future.

However, thinking about it carefully, it was not strange.

If everyone could refine chakra and become a ninja, then this world would have long since fallen into chaos.

Some people were born high and mighty, reincarnated immortals.

Others were born as dirt, not even qualified to enter the eyes of those people.

Unfortunately, Kenichi was that kind of dirt.

The Shinobi World was originally a world with strict social hierarchies.

Daimyo ruled ordinary people, while ninja villages ruled ninja.

Daimyo relied on Kage to protect their countries and maintain their rule, while Kage relied on the financial income provided by Daimyo to develop their villages and improve the strength of their village’s ninja.

Then the ninja went out and fought to the death, while the Daimyo sat safely in the rear, amusing themselves with cricket fights.

However, the Shinobi World concealed all of this beneath a false layer of beauty.

After all, in this world, people could appreciate the bonds between powerful ninja.

They could be moved to tears by the bond between Naruto and Sasuke.

But what about those unfortunate ordinary people?

Those who died on the night of the Nine-Tails’ attack.

Only those with names appeared in the anime.

What about those unlucky ordinary people?

And what about those ordinary people who were not in Konoha, but trapped in the middle of war?

They were nothing more than a string of cold numbers.

Therefore, Kenichi was not surprised that people like Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan could be born in this world.

Because now, he also wanted to become a ninja like Konan and the others.

At least that way, he could survive in this terrible world.

”I’m sorry, sir! Please spare me! I still have a young daughter at home to take care of!”

The uncle was still wailing.

Blood sprayed from his mouth, and the ninja was still increasing the pressure on the uncle’s head.

”You filthy scoundrel, do you know my ninja tools were almost shattered because of you?!”

The ninja grinned and ground his foot down, grinding the head of this poor commoner against the ground.

The man’s scalp was scraped raw by his shoe, and blood slowly flowed out.

But the uncle did not dare resist.

He could only keep begging for mercy.

Finally, after being kicked twice by the ninja and losing two teeth, he was let go.

Watching the ninja swagger away while surrounded by bowing commoners, a burning anger ignited inside Kenichi.

But he was powerless.

After the ninja left, he could only go over and help the uncle, who still had not managed to get up from the ground.

”Are you all right?”

Kenichi looked at the uncle in front of him.

Blood kept dripping from the man’s body, but he still managed to force out a faint smile of relief.

”I... I’m fi-ne.”

The uncle spoke with a slight lisp because he was missing two teeth.

Kenichi knew that this uncle would live in this world with those two teeth missing.

Because medical expenses in the Shinobi World were very expensive, especially for commoners.

Unless absolutely necessary, commoners in the Shinobi World would not choose to go to the hospital.

Kenichi had heard from the orphanage director that getting sick was a very expensive matter.

When orphans like them got sick, they often only received a bowl of herbal medicine.

As for whether they would get better, that was entirely up to them.

If they were lucky enough to pull through, they would continue growing up.

If they were unlucky and did not make it, then they would only become a stone in the graveyard behind the orphanage.

The orphanage had no money to carve tombstones.

So the dead children would only have a small stone erected as a marker.

Watching the uncle stagger away, and seeing the numb, accustomed eyes of the people around him, as if everything that had happened was perfectly natural, Kenichi’s body and mind trembled.

This world was sick.

It had contracted a disease called ninja.

Kenichi’s eyes were a bit dazed.

He really had not expected to see this period of memory.

But since he had seen it, the subsequent development should be...

Thinking of this, Kenichi quickly ran back to the orphanage.

Not long after he entered, a violent noise rang out.

”Open the door! Open the door!”

Violent knocking sounds came from the door.

The dilapidated wooden door trembled continuously, as if the entire room was shaking.

Dust kept falling, landing on Kenichi’s head and body.

Kenichi skillfully brushed the dust off his body, a hint of disgust appearing on his face.

Those damned hyenas were here again.

The director opened the door.

Outside stood two burly men.

The one in front held a notebook and a money bag, while the one behind had a flintlock rifle on his back.

These guys were only ordinary civilian lackeys.

Konoha’s henchmen.

No, in the mouths of commoners like Kenichi, they were called ”Canine Teeth.”

However, no commoner ever dared to say that in front of these people.

Flintlock rifles were not effective against ninja.

But against ordinary people like them, one shot, one kill was no problem.

”Ah, Lord Fujiki, may I ask why you’ve come this time?”

The director nervously rubbed her hands and forced a smile.

She saw the notebook in Fujiki’s hand and immediately felt that this was not good, but she could not show it.

For the past few years, the orphanage had gotten by like this.

These bastards, if they did not see your respect toward them, would make life difficult for you.

Although the orphanage received some subsidies from the village, it was currently wartime, and the orphanage’s welfare benefits had been greatly reduced.

What they ate daily had changed from porridge to rice gruel.

”You must contribute one D-rank mission this month. Pay up now.”

Fujiki spoke casually.

Kenichi clearly saw that on the bastard’s notebook, there was a crossed out name, and then the orphanage’s name had been newly added.

Kenichi gritted his teeth.

This was against the rules.

Every ninja village had mission quota requirements, just like the missions Naruto and his team undertook.

These missions were allocated from the Land of Fire and its subordinate regions, or from defeated nations.

Every month, ninja villages issued mission quota requirements, asking Daimyo to submit their mission quotas.

These missions were then categorized by reward and difficulty.

The Daimyo then passed these missions to the leaders of each town and village, and these leaders had to complete them.

The Daimyo did not care how they completed them.

If they completed them, they continued working.

If they did not?

Then money would be deducted from their assets to compensate.

And these guys, in order not to have their own money deducted, naturally resorted to every possible method, sending these hyenas to extort mission quotas from commoners.

From large-scale wars to small tasks like finding cats, everything was a mission.

And missions were how ninja earned money.

Kenichi had always been curious how a single Konoha could have so much money to arrange these so-called D-rank missions.

One D-rank mission typically had a minimum reward of five thousand Ryo, which, converted to prices in his previous life, was roughly equivalent to three thousand two hundred yuan.

Heh.

Kenichi thought that if it were him, and he had to spend more than three thousand yuan every month to hire ninja to help him babysit, throw out trash, or harvest crops, he would definitely refuse.

After all, this amount of money was not small.

Instead of spending money to hire others to do it, it would be better to do it himself and save some money.

Moreover, what ninja did was usually only one commission.

For example, commissioning a D-rank mission and asking a genin to help throw out trash once.

Throwing out trash once for three thousand yuan.

What kind of Dubai prices were these?

Kenichi did not know how other commoners in Konoha viewed these missions.

But he only knew that these mission quotas issued by Konoha, when imposed on the current orphanage, were an unbearable burden.

Even the lowest D-rank mission required at least five thousand Ryo.

Five thousand Ryo, just for finding a cat or harvesting crops?

There was not much the orphanage could do.

At most, they could ask these ninja to help tidy up, clean, or transport ingredients, and five thousand Ryo would be gone.

Furthermore, during wartime, you did not get to decide what mission was issued.

These important figures would arrange everything for you.

The orphanage’s five thousand Ryo might end up being used to help others do their work.

”A bowl of ramen in Konoha is only seventy Ryo...”

Kenichi chuckled helplessly to himself.

Five thousand Ryo was enough for him to eat sixty-six bowls of ramen.

Or twenty-two days if he ate three bowls a day.

Ramen was a luxurious food that the orphanage only ate once a year during New Year’s.

The current orphanage was not yet in the era when that kind-hearted woman would come to take care of it.

The current orphanage was neglected, with pitifully few resources allocated, and the director was just an ordinary woman.

The director gritted her teeth.

She had just paid last month.

Theoretically, it should not have been their turn this month.

But the reason theory was theory was because it could be broken at will.

As long as these people wanted to, they could always fabricate new theories.

And anyone who dared to question them would be targeted.

Then, every subsequent month, they would be ”theoretically” targeted until they finally gave in.

The director sighed, then paid the money.

Kenichi watched in silence.

He had known about this memory back then.

And he also knew that these hyenas would come again next month.

However, after they came next month, the orphanage would be fine.

Because today, to be precise, tonight, Kenichi’s teacher, Orochimaru, would arrive. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

At that time, Orochimaru came to look at the children.

Kenichi knew that he was selecting experimental subjects and what he wanted to do.

But this was Orochimaru!

One of Konoha’s Sannin, already famous during the Second Shinobi World War.

And Orochimaru would give a generous reward for taking orphans.

But those taken by Orochimaru never returned.

Kenichi stepped forward himself and became an experimental subject.

Because at that time, while drinking rice gruel, Kenichi discovered his cheat system, thereby gaining the opportunity to change the future.

And to come into contact with ninja, to come into contact with those things that could change his destiny, Kenichi chose to rely on Orochimaru.

Although it was very dangerous, at least there would be choices in the future.

”I wonder, how should I break Otsutsuki Isshiki’s genjutsu?”

Kenichi sat on the chair, stroking his chin.

This genjutsu was very strong, and Kenichi had not found a way to break it yet.

But as long as it was genjutsu, it could generally be broken.

Even the incredibly powerful Infinite Tsukuyomi in the future had a way to be broken, didn’t it?

Kenichi rubbed his chin.

He felt that this matter might be related to his teacher Orochimaru.

If so, he would have to wait until night, when his teacher would come to select experimental subjects.
