Chapter 533: What Otsutsuki Isshiki Once Experienced

”I suspect that damn Otsutsuki Isshiki has a grudge against me.”

Kenichi stared blankly at the dark cave before him, feeling a slight tingle across his scalp.

He had just seen a shrunken Otsutsuki Isshiki and charged forward without hesitation.

Immediately after, Kenichi fell into another genjutsu.

A genjutsu cast by Otsutsuki Isshiki.

And the result was that he now found himself in another strange space.

Kenichi looked around in confusion, unsure of where he was.

He only felt puzzled.

Otsutsuki Isshiki’s genjutsu was incredibly powerful.

At least from Kenichi’s perspective, he could barely find any obvious flaws, which gave him a headache.

Furthermore, conventional methods of dispelling genjutsu were also useless.

”So...”

Kenichi cautiously tried to gather chakra, only to find it futile.

He sighed.

This had already become a basic situation.

Every time, Otsutsuki Isshiki’s genjutsu made it impossible for him to gather chakra, and he did not know why.

Moreover, this time, there was no one here.

Kenichi did not remember ever being in such a place either.

When he was in Konoha, he had spent most of his time doing experiments with his teacher in the laboratory.

Even in caves, he could usually find a source of light quickly.

But there was nothing here.

Then, a peculiar memory flooded into Kenichi’s mind.

Kenichi was a little confused at first, then realized that he seemed to be inside Jigen’s memories.

According to Jigen’s vague memories, this seemed to be the era of the Second Shinobi World War.

Even worse, his current body was very weak and unable to exert much power, so he could only hide.

”Is this guy... currently hiding within the Land of Rain? So this is the hidden lair he dug out? I didn’t expect Otsutsuki Isshiki to have such a past.”

Kenichi narrowed his eyes and tried to find a way to break free.

But this genjutsu was incredibly realistic, and for now, he could not find any method.

He could only follow Otsutsuki Isshiki’s memories for the time being.

But Kenichi also knew that the flow of time inside Otsutsuki Isshiki’s genjutsu was problematic.

Although he had experienced a long time before, only a short while had passed in reality.

”This cave seems secret enough, but it still needs more camouflage. And my only weapon now is a Black Rod... how weak.”

Kenichi walked out of the cave and looked around.

Then he lowered his head and looked at the Black Rod in his hand, feeling a bit of a headache.

He did not know what Otsutsuki Isshiki was trying to do with this genjutsu now.

He tentatively attacked with the Black Rod.

But when he stabbed it into the mud, it was useless.

When he struck the trees, it was also useless.

Kenichi curled up inside the cave.

He carefully wiped away the footprints he had left outside, then camouflaged the cave entrance.

He covered it with a layer of mud and gravel, matching the color of the surrounding mountain as much as possible, thereby maximizing the concealment of his dwelling from other people’s sight.

”The war has begun after all.”

Kenichi sneezed, then rubbed his nose.

After successfully camouflaging the cave entrance, Kenichi noticed that the war had already begun.

There was a small town at the bottom of the hill.

But the town lacked the bustling activity of people coming and going.

Every household was shut tight, and distant explosions and flames could be seen.

Kenichi had no intention of going there.

Entering that town now would be foolish.

He would definitely be dragged to the front lines as cannon fodder, forced to transport supplies, or ordered to fight enemy ninja with a matchlock rifle.

Kenichi held the Black Rod in his hand.

The coldness of the rod brought a little stability to his heart.

According to Jigen’s memories, he knew that this should be the Second Shinobi World War, and it was only the beginning of the war.

The ninja of the Five Great Nations had not yet fully poured into the Land of Rain.

But as the war quickly spiraled into an abyss, the entire Land of Rain would eventually become a battlefield.

Even the town below could not avoid it.

But Kenichi truly had not expected there to be an acquaintance in the town below.

Jigen’s memories had once shown Nagato in that small town.

That was very interesting.

So, according to the anime plot, Nagato’s parents would die when ninja broke in to scavenge supplies, mistakenly believed Nagato’s parents were enemies, and attacked them, resulting in their deaths.

This also caused Nagato to go berserk and eventually become an orphan.

When watching the anime, Kenichi had only felt pity for Nagato.

But now, Kenichi only wanted to pray that Nagato would not destroy everything around him.

Otherwise, he would truly suffer an undeserved calamity.

Kenichi rubbed his hands.

There was not much he could do now.

The only thing he wanted to do was seize this opportunity to quickly figure out how to break free from this situation.

Otherwise, being trapped in the genjutsu for too long would be very troublesome.

This matter was a bit urgent.

Kenichi was worried that the killing move of this genjutsu lay with the berserk Nagato.

If he were affected by that, it would be very troublesome.

Moreover, it might not just be those two ninja coming.

There should also be other ninja squads.

Who knew what kind of things Otsutsuki Isshiki’s genjutsu would contain?

If some troublesome things suddenly appeared, it would be very tricky.

So Kenichi was pressed for time.

”Nagato...”

Kenichi scratched his head.

He remembered that the death of Nagato’s parents had stimulated Nagato, causing him to awaken the power of the Rinnegan and kill those two ninja.

This meant that the time Madara transplanted the Rinnegan into Nagato should be around this period.

If he seized this opportunity to destroy Nagato’s Rinnegan...

Kenichi’s heart pounded violently.

This idea was still feasible.

Although Nagato had been transplanted with the Rinnegan, he only activated it for the first time after witnessing the tragic death of his parents.

And even if he activated the Rinnegan, as long as Black Zetsu and Obito were not watching Nagato, Kenichi had some confidence that he could destroy Nagato’s Rinnegan.

However, in that case, he would need a suitable reason to approach Nagato.

The only problem was that once the Rinnegan was destroyed, the future of the Shinobi World might head in another direction.

Without the Rinnegan, the Eye of the Moon Plan could not be implemented.

So what would Black Zetsu do?

At that point, the plot he was familiar with might collapse.

But so what?

The familiar plot belonged to the ninja’s world anyway.

”Hmm? Why am I having these thoughts?”

Kenichi opened his eyes wide in confusion.

Wasn’t he supposed to break through the genjutsu?

Why was he suddenly thinking about how to kill Nagato?

This was not right.

Kenichi suddenly realized that this genjutsu seemed to have the ability to influence his subconscious.

Boom!

A loud noise interrupted Kenichi’s thoughts.

He gripped the Black Rod in his hand.

This would not do.

If he wanted to go out to gather information and find a way to break free, he had to open the door and go outside.

That was not safe.

But the problem was that if he did not open the door and go out, he would not know how to check the situation outside.

The previous noise was clearly problematic.

”Otsutsuki Isshiki, that idiot, couldn’t even make something to see through things. At least poke a hole if you can’t.”

Kenichi was a bit helpless.

Now, he could only hold his weapon and hesitate at the door.

A short while had passed since the violent boom, and there was no sound outside.

Kenichi did not know what had happened.

He could only poke an observation hole through the wooden door with his Black Rod and look outside.

The forest was silent.

There was no one.

Kenichi cautiously pushed open the door and emerged from the cave.

The forest was still quiet.

After coming out of the cave, Kenichi heard another explosion in the distance.

He instantly pinpointed the source of the explosion.

Kenichi cautiously climbed the high hill and looked down.

The town below was in chaos.

Farther beyond the town, inside the dense forest, a fireball had risen at some unknown point.

Occasional flashes of fire appeared, and trees continuously collapsed.

Clearly, a battle had broken out in the distance.

The only question was which side’s ninja were fighting there.

But clearly, for the small village below, this was not good news.

Kenichi could see small ants in the town below trying to escape from a sturdy box.

But they could not get out.

They could only scurry around in panic.

This reminded Kenichi of the past.

When it rained, panicked ants would also scurry around like this, struggling to find a way out.

Kenichi retreated into the cave.

He noticed that the distant battle seemed to be gradually approaching the town.

Kenichi closed the door.

The commotion outside seemed to be instantly shut out.

”What is the method to break free? And that old man, the Sage of Six Paths, isn’t helping either. When I get out, I’m going to poke his lung and see what he’s doing. Increasing my resistance to genjutsu also needs to be put on the agenda.”

Kenichi lay against the door, listening to the sounds outside.

”Run!”

A sudden cry came from outside.

Kenichi’s heart tightened.

He gripped the Black Rod in his hand tightly, then slowly walked to the observation hole and glanced outside.

In the forest, several blood-stained people were fleeing in disarray.

That urgent cry of ”Run!” must have come from them.

Kenichi narrowed his eyes.

These people had headbands.

They were ninja.

But he could not tell which village’s ninja they were.

Kenichi pursed his lips.

The battle situation was not optimistic.

But then again, a small Land of Rain, even with the Demigod Hanzo, had no ability to act as a player in the overall war.

It could only become the chessboard.

It could not even become a chess piece.

The only chess piece was probably Hanzo.

But one chess piece could not sway the battle.

Perhaps Hanzo could proclaim his reputation as a Demigod, but after the Second Great War, he could only curl up in Amegakure, living a life like a frog in a well.

The fleeing ninja left the forest.

The forest fell into a deathly silence again.

Kenichi held the Black Rod in his hand, curiously observing outside.

But after waiting for a long time, there was no other movement outside, which made Kenichi frown slightly.

It seemed that the previous scene was just a coincidence.

”But isn’t the Land of Rain retreating too quickly? It seems the war will soon spread here.”

Just as he was thinking this, more people hurried into the forest.

They were wearing tattered clothes.

Clearly, they were ordinary civilians.

They fled in panic, seemingly heading toward the small town at the foot of the mountain.

Among them were women and men, as well as trembling children.

Their faces were full of panic, and their bodies and faces were covered in dirt, but they had no thought of wiping it away.

”Go! Hurry and go!”

The mournful cries of people echoed continuously through the forest.

A boy accidentally fell to the ground, and the thin man ahead of him quickly came over and pulled him up.

But then, a ball of flame suddenly exploded at the center of Kenichi’s vision.

The flames instantly engulfed the father and son.

The scattering flames caused the crowd to let out terrified wails.

Some people’s clothes and hair caught fire, and they screamed in pain.

Kenichi watched calmly.

It was because he had seen the cruelty of war and the truth of this world that he chose to unify the entire Shinobi World.

As the flames dissipated, a pair of charred bodies appeared in Kenichi’s eyes.

The man had stretched out his hand to protect the child beneath him, but both their lives were forever frozen at that moment.

The crowd cried and ran frantically.

They had abandoned their personal belongings, and old bags were scattered everywhere on the ground.

Kenichi even saw money in some of the bags.

But under the pressure of survival, everything else could take a back seat.

Even money.

”You scumbags!”

A furious roar rang out.

A disheveled female ninja appeared in the forest.

She had strangely colored hair, like a new actress stepping onto a stage, and Kenichi was the only audience watching this stage play.

The curtain rose.

The actors appeared.

And the audience silently watched the performance.

Two ninja instantly appeared opposite the female ninja.

They stood still, allowing Kenichi to clearly see their headbands.

These two ninja wore Konoha headbands.

Konoha ninja had already arrived in the Land of Rain and had even begun fighting.

The Konoha ninja wasted no words.

They attacked the female ninja in front of them with coordinated movements.

The opponent resisted desperately, but the power gap was so vast that anyone could see it.

And every time this female ninja tried to escape, those two Konoha ninja would mercilessly attack the ordinary people who had not yet run far, forcing the female ninja to stop again and again.

”There must be someone very important to her ahead.”

Kenichi guessed something.

Otherwise, there was no reason for the other party to give up the chance to escape and stay here.

Unless this ninja cared deeply about these ordinary people.

A shuriken pierced the female ninja’s shoulder.

Blood gushed out, soaking the land.
