The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

11:30 PM.

Liu Yunong returned home tired after socializing.

She pushed open the door and saw the living room light left on, and her heart warmed.

She deliberately moved quietly, intending to go to her room to find some clothes to change into, but when she passed by her sister Liu Yuqing’s room, she noticed light leaking from the crack in the door.

Liu Yunong knocked on the door: ”Xiaoqing? Not asleep yet?”

Sounds of keyboard tapping came from inside.

Liu Yunong pushed open the door and went inside, finding Liu Yuqing wearing headphones and focused on working on a document.

”What are you busy with?”

Liu Yunong walked over to glance at the computer screen.

Liu Yuqing hadn’t had time to reply.

Liu Yunong had already noticed that on the left side of the screen was a cooking video featuring a chef in a competition, and the document on the right recorded a lot of related information.

Liu Yunong was a bit surprised: ”What are you doing this for?”

Liu Yuqing took off her headphones, too sleepy to keep her eyes open, and casually replied: ”Fu Yu is preparing to participate in a culinary video competition by the Food Association. I’m helping him with video editing.”

Liu Yunong immediately got angry!

How dare he command my sister!

I wouldn’t even do that myself!

Unbelievable!

Liu Yunong took a deep breath and said gently, ”Alright, it’s nothing urgent, go to bed early, don’t you have work tomorrow?”

After speaking, she couldn’t help but grind her molars, deciding to have a good talk with Fu Yu later...

...

As the saying goes: ”Older masters, younger chefs.”

The work of a chef is very hard, not only is the workload large, but it is also quite demanding.

Whether it’s processing and preparation or cooking at the stove, it requires a lot of physical effort.

Without a healthy constitution, it’s unbearable.

Moreover, chefs also need to have strong endurance.

The work of a chef is different from regular jobs.

They often work in front of people and finish after everyone else.

Cooking in front of people, eating after them.

Sometimes, when business gets busy, they can’t even have a complete meal.

Plus, they have to endure high heat and smoke in front of the stove.

In the words of people like Fu Yu, to do this job well, you must endure the ”four bears.”

That is, endure hunger, fullness, heat, and cold.

Besides that, they also have to deal with the various unexpected events that come one after another.

Sometimes, people in the back kitchen would rather have a dull and mundane life than too exciting.

Fu Yu was too excited last night, browsing videos until dawn, and when he got up in the morning, maybe because of enhanced physical fitness, he didn’t feel tired.

He skillfully prepared breakfast, ate with everyone, and started the day’s work.

Today it was their turn to be responsible for marinating the appetizers.

Zhao Meng personally went to check the storage room, unable to stand still for even a moment.

Busy all morning.

By lunchtime, Fu Yu was almost stuck in the grill area, unable to move.

They were flooded with delivery orders, all from regular customers.

For the thriving barbecue delivery business, owner Dong Jun Tian was grinning from ear to ear.

This month, Fu Yu’s paycheck included a bonus attributed to delivery commissions.

More than seven thousand.

Fu Yu was pleasantly surprised to find that while barbecue delivery commissions were calculated per table like in other sections, the faster grilling speed of barbecue actually made its commissions higher.

The higher-than-expected salary made Fu Yu noticeably more enthusiastic while grilling.

In the temporary grilling area, even after adding a fan, the temperature in front of the grill was still intense.

Fu Yu was busy with his grilling tasks.

Liu Yuqing came running with some order slips.

”Chef Fu, Sister Jiang asked you to take a closer look at the notes for this order.”

Fu Yu turned the mackerel over before accepting the order slip and glancing at the dish list.

The order was full of the restaurant’s specials.

The customer had written two lines of notes: ”The squid should be grilled whole, choose a bigger one. Last time it wasn’t done right, try a new flavor, like the ones on Central Street!!”

Fu Yu frowned: ”The ones on Central Street... what does that mean?”

Liu Yuqing explained: ”The customer said they want the kind of big squid that’s grilled whole, crispy and fragrant, very spicy but it burns the mouth, not the stomach.”

Which wasn’t much of an explanation at all.

Liu Yuqing continued, ”I specifically asked for you; the customer said she once ate it there, it was particularly delicious and memorable. But it’s too far, and she hasn’t had the chance to go back. She found our restaurant through a video food review, tried ordering once, but it didn’t match what she wanted, so she’s trying her luck again.”

Fu Yu finally understood and couldn’t help asking, ”Isn’t Jiang Mo usually the one who answers delivery calls? How come you’re taking them this time?”

Liu Yuqing shook her head: ”No, this customer’s ordering in-store and is waiting in the dining area for her meal.”

Fu Yu was just about to check on his phone how Central Street-style grilled squid was made.

Hearing this, he paused, ”The customer ordered in-store?”

Liu Yuqing nodded.

Fu Yu checked the mackerel in his hand, then turned and instructed Zhang Jinyu: ”Go call Chef Sun to come help watch over here.”

Zhang Jinyu agreed and jogged over to the red case area to pass on the message.

Liu Yuqing curiously asked, ”Are you planning to go out front to see the customer?”

Fu Yu nodded, ”Yeah, since she already ordered once before and is back again, she’s a regular. I’ll ask what flavor she wants, then grill it accordingly.”

Liu Yuqing gave Fu Yu a thumbs up: ”Chef Fu, you’re so diligent and responsible!”

Once the conversation started, it couldn’t be contained.

While waiting for Sun Qingning for those two minutes, Liu Yuqing just kept chatting!

”Chef Fu, what if you can’t make the flavor the customer wants?”

”Chef Fu, do you have a plan already?”

”Chef Fu, you know how to make that kind of grilled squid, right?”

”Chef Fu...”

Fu Yu couldn’t help but glance more at Liu Yuqing.

They say one woman equals 500 ducks, and he should be annoyed by the chatter.

But strangely, from these repetitive words, he felt a bit of appreciation and recognition.

Fu Yu raised an eyebrow, looking at Liu Yuqing’s pretty face, feeling both pleased and gratified.

So he smiled and said, ”Do you know how to keep customers?”

”Besides good service, the most important thing is to cook dishes that match the customer’s taste.”

”If a customer comes twice for one dish, she might keep coming back for it.”

”As long as we can make the barbecue she wants, she’ll become a regular.”

Liu Yuqing, with an expression of admiration: ... Wow! That’s so insightful!
