The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Feng Hai was suddenly taken aback, Hunan-style Immortal Fish?

”Alright, I’ll go over and have a look.”

To be honest, Feng Hai really didn’t want to go.

Because there was absolutely no need for it.

The dishes he was good at cooking had already been reported to the restaurant.

As for this Immortal Fish, he had heard of it, but it was considered a legendary delicacy.

He had never heard of any restaurant offering this dish.

He didn’t know how to make any Immortal Fish.

But he had no choice. The front desk manager specifically named him to come over.

It’s a relationship that needs to be handled frequently in the future, so he had to give some face.

Especially the reputation of the front desk manager Li Xintong, which was well-known in the restaurant. Everyone knew that as long as the boss wasn’t around, all matters in the front desk were handled by her.

Forget it, let’s go over and have a look.

...

At this moment, in the VIP room of the front desk, the newly revised menu was laid out on the table, and the front desk manager in charge of reception, Li Xintong, was smiling as she looked at the two customers sitting opposite her.

The visitors were regular customers, a couple whose specific identities were unclear, but they clearly weren’t short of money. They would book a table every holiday to dine with family.

Their extensive family could fill up a small open room by themselves.

The couple picked through the dishes, occasionally bickering.

Both of them had unremarkable appearances, with equally rough skin, sallow complexions, and no taste in clothing.

Looking at this middle-aged couple in front of her, Li Xintong couldn’t help but sigh internally: With such looks and demeanor, to be so wealthy, truly small fortunes look at diligence, great fortunes are a matter of fate!

The couple quickly chose the dishes.

The middle-aged woman held the menu, carefully reviewed it, and asked, ”When will the chef come over?”

Li Xintong quickly said, ”I’ve already sent someone to call him over, he’ll be here soon.”

The middle-aged man frowned slightly, ”I’ve never heard that your restaurant had Hunan cuisine before. Where did you get the chef from? Is he any good?”

The middle-aged woman said, ”Let’s wait and ask when he comes over. But this Immortal Fish seems quite famous, it would be great if they could actually make it, Old Ye would definitely be happy.”

The middle-aged man nodded, but still said, ”Hey, ask your friends which other places have good Hunan cuisine, and check later. If they can make Immortal Fish, maybe we can order takeout or just try another place.”

As they spoke, the couple started discussing the option of switching restaurants if this music restaurant couldn’t make the Immortal Fish.

Li Xintong immediately felt anxious.

Are you kidding!

The two in front of her were old customers of the restaurant.

Their annual spending at the restaurant was quite substantial.

For customers who consistently bring in money, how could they let them easily switch places?

If they try somewhere else and never return, that would be a big loss for the restaurant.

As Li Xintong understood, this couple indeed wasn’t short of money.

They used to come to the music restaurant because, first, the environment was nice, and second, the food was indeed done well and was unique.

But no matter how good something is, after eating it for two years straight, it loses its novelty.

This time they switched the menu temporarily after hearing that the restaurant had hired a chef specializing in Hunan cuisine, whose skills were very impressive.

Entertaining friends was one thing, but they mainly wanted to see how the new dishes tasted.

Music restaurant specializes in hosting large-scale wedding banquets, student banquets, and other bulk bookings.

Therefore, the front desk staff is extensive, and managing all the personnel in an orderly manner shows that Li Xintong is a very capable person.

Seeing the customers wavering, Li Xintong quickly said, ”Rest assured, the chef we hired back to our restaurant is very good at authentic Hunan cuisine. Even locals who have tasted it praised it as being exactly like the flavors back home.”

While her words had an intention to exaggerate Feng Hai’s skills, they were fairly truthful.

With his own boss’s eye for talent, Feng Hai wouldn’t have been hired as head chef if his culinary skills were ordinary.

Just then, the middle-aged man’s phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the caller ID and smiled, saying, ”It’s Ye Mian.”

He then hurriedly answered the call.

”Hello, Old Ye... I’m here at the music restaurant with my wife, they have launched a few Hunan dishes here, looks pretty good, aren’t you from Hunan? We’re booking a table here today... I don’t know yet, haven’t tasted it before, I just remember you saying before that you’ve always wanted to eat something called Immortal Fish? I’ll ask them later if they can make it... We must let you try! Haha...”

From across the table, Li Xintong couldn’t hear the voice on the phone clearly, but hearing the middle-aged man speak, her heart sank.

The promise was made, if they really can’t make the Immortal Fish here, these two might really cancel the order and leave!

The middle-aged man hung up the phone, quite pleased, and said, ”Old Ye said that since we’re eating Hunan cuisine, they will invite his wife over tonight. They’re both from Hunan and love this style, so let’s add two more dishes, and then our family, Old Ye’s family, and Mao Jia’s couple too, can all come together and have a good time!”

The couple was talking excitedly, and Li Xintong quickly seized the opportunity to promote a few new Hunan dishes from the restaurant.

Selling one more dish is a win.

Once they finalize the order form, the customers might find it too troublesome to change places.

If Feng Hai’s culinary skills are indeed impressive, and they enjoy it, they won’t hesitate to return for more.

...

Immortal Fish is a very famous dish in Hunan cuisine.

It is said to involve hanging fresh fish over chicken soup and steaming it until the fish meat is cooked through.

The steamed fish meat slowly falls completely into the chicken soup, resulting in a deboned fish with an extremely tender flavor.

However, due to the extremely complex cooking method and high difficulty level, this dish is almost never seen on the market.

It’s no wonder it’s considered legendary.

Feng Hai hadn’t heard anyone mention this dish for a long time.

As he followed the waiter to the front desk VIP room, he couldn’t help but murmur to himself: today’s customers are quite knowledgeable.

After all, very few outsiders have heard of this dish.

To be able to order it shows they are real gourmets.

It’s just a matter of whether their temperaments are manageable or not.

Let’s hope his inability to produce the dish doesn’t result in a canceled order.

He had only been working here for a few days and hadn’t yet established himself, so nothing can happen that might ruin his reputation.

But before seeing them, he had no idea how to resolve this.

In any case, the dishes they ordered weren’t even on the restaurant’s menu, so whether good or bad, it wasn’t his responsibility.

Thinking this, Feng Hai immediately felt at ease.
