The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Zhao Meng understood everything after listening to the server!

Su Huang Cai is a very old-fashioned dish, considered a type of caramelized dish, but slightly more complex.

It tastes fluffy, crispy, and fragrant, with a sweet flavor.

Due to its simple ingredients and complicated preparation, it is generally only seen at large wedding banquets.

The server was anxious and turned to Zhao Meng for help: ”Chef Zhao, can you make this Su Huang Cai?”

”The customer is waiting for the dish, and Linlin really can’t leave the front, so she asked me to come over and check.”

As he spoke, the server walked over to Zhao Meng, showing a face of anxiety.

Even as a fellow chef, Zhao Meng often maintained a stern face, but his very presence exuded authority, and his calm manner of speaking always put people at ease.

”Our restaurant doesn’t actually offer this dish, go back and explain clearly to the customer. The kitchen here can only help by making an extra serving of caramelized sweet potatoes as a complimentary gesture, without charge.”

When people take someone’s favor, they feel compelled to return it.

This issue was originally just a new server’s oversight, explain it well, and offer compensation, customers generally understand.

Zhao Meng continued: ”Coincidentally, we just took an order for this dish, so we’ll prepare an extra serving of sauce. Lao Gu, I’ll handle this dish, you don’t need to worry about it.”

Gu Yunwu had intended to do just that.

If Zhao Meng could handle it, that would be the best. If not, they would have to explain the situation to the customer and offer an extra dish as compensation, the restaurant wouldn’t suffer any major loss, and they could ensure customer satisfaction.

Gu Yunwu was happy to pass the trouble on, and said with a smile: ”Alright, Old Zhao, thanks.”

At this moment, Wang Meng received instructions from Li Linlin and quickly left the front, hurrying towards the kitchen.

As soon as she turned into the corridor towards the kitchen, she saw Liu Yuqing approaching.

Both were employees who participated in the new hire training together. Liu Yuqing had been onboard for over a month, making her quite experienced to Wang Meng, who was just three days in.

During training, they happened to sit next to each other, exchanged a few polite words, and got to know each other.

Liu Yuqing, now jogging over with the order list, was surprised to see Wang Meng coming from the front.

She greeted with a smile and a wave: ”Wang Meng!”

Wang Meng also waved her hand, quickly approaching.

The two walked quickly together to the kitchen.

Liu Yuqing curiously asked: ”Why are you over here?”

Wang Meng, being a new employee, was usually learning in the front with the senior employee assigned to her.

Sending her here likely meant something happened in the front, otherwise, this could have been resolved over the phone.

Wang Meng, short of breath from running, said: ”The customer at table 209 ordered a dish... the restaurant doesn’t have it, I didn’t know... and I took the order.”

Liu Yuqing was a bit surprised: ”Then what will you do?”

Wang Meng’s words were fragmented, but Liu Yuqing quickly pieced it together, realizing it was indeed an issue.

The customer ordered a dish that the restaurant didn’t offer, yet Wang Meng took the order.

Wang Meng appeared anxious: ”I don’t know, Sister Linlin asked Sister Dai Li for help, sent someone to the kitchen to pass the word, Sister Linlin asked me to check in the kitchen.”

Wang Meng, just starting her job, had never experienced such a thing. Now she was both worried and guilty, on the verge of tears.

In front of the senior employee Li Linlin, she dared not say anything, but now meeting another newbie Liu Yuqing, she couldn’t hold back.

Speaking without much reservation, she said directly: ”If Chef Yao can’t help, Sister Linlin said, Sister Dai is Chef Zhao’s girlfriend, mentioning Sister Dai to Chef Zhao will definitely work, I thought I’d ask Chef Zhao directly to see if he could help somehow.”

Liu Yuqing nodded, such matters aren’t all that difficult to solve, given that Li Linlin could ask Dai Li for assistance, they must have a good relationship.

And everyone in the restaurant knew about Dai Li and Zhao Meng’s relationship, if Dai Li said a word, Zhao Meng would surely help out.

So Liu Yuqing didn’t think too much after hearing Wang Meng.

But...

She underestimated Wang Meng’s boldness, not fearing rashness as a newcomer.

As soon as they entered the kitchen, Wang Meng darted straight to Yao Yihang’s cooking station.

Yao Yihang had just conducted training for new employees that morning, and seeing him, Wang Meng felt a glimmer of hope.

In difficult situations, the first person you seek help from is always someone you feel somewhat familiar with.

Yao Yihang, selected as the training instructor, would certainly have remarkable culinary skills!

Wang Meng hurried to Yao Yihang, anxiously asking for help: ”Chef Yao, please help me!”

Yao Yihang, recognizing her, thought she looked a bit familiar, realizing she was the new server.

After realizing who she was, Yao Yihang was slightly surprised: ”What’s wrong? What happened?”

Wang Meng quickly replied: ”My name is Wang Meng, I’m the new server here, it was me who took the order for Su Huang Cai. I really didn’t know we didn’t have that dish! I...”

Upon hearing this, Yao Yihang frowned, realizing it was her who caused this mess.

Any sensible person wouldn’t have gotten this wrong.

Yao Yihang couldn’t help but complain: ”When you take orders, if you’re not sure if the restaurant has the dish, why not check? What were you thinking? You’ve really gotten our kitchen into such trouble!”

Wang Meng was already panicked, and being reprimanded like this left her even more lost: ”I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to, Chef Yao, please help me, can you make this dish?”

Yao Yihang coldly replied: ”I can’t make it, it’s not a dish we have, nobody in the kitchen knows how to make it.”

Wang Meng was dumbfounded!

No one in the kitchen could make it... what now?

The customer in the front was still waiting... if they found out the kitchen couldn’t make it, they would demand an explanation!

If the situation escalated and the management found out the customer was dissatisfied because of her.

Would she be able to keep the job she worked so hard to get?

At this moment, Wang Meng deeply regretted not first checking if they had the dish.

If only she thought about it more, it wouldn’t have come to this!

Looking at Yao Yihang’s stern face, Wang Meng knew he wouldn’t be able to help.

She felt anxious and frustrated.

Turning her head, she saw Zhao Meng standing not far away.

Wang Meng had a strong impression of the two chefs because on her first day, the supervisor had someone take her around the kitchen to meet everyone.

Recognizing Zhao Meng, Wang Meng’s panicked heart suddenly calmed.

Initially seeing Yao Yihang, she thought since they had trained together, perhaps due to this connection, he might help her.

But unexpectedly, Yao Yihang responded with such an attitude.

Now seeing Zhao Meng, she suddenly remembered that when she arrived, Li Linlin had specifically instructed her, if things didn’t work out with Yao Yihang, she should try to find Dai Li and ask her to talk to Zhao Meng to see if he could help.

Wang Meng quickly turned to Zhao Meng.
