Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Profiling the Criminal Mind from Forensic Perspectives

At this moment, inside the criminal investigation team’s meeting room.

When Jiang An presented his opinion once more, none of the attendees showed the initial strong skepticism.

On the contrary! Everyone was lost in thought.

The criminal investigation team had discussed this case numerous times.

However!

None of those discussions had been as in-depth as today’s.

Nor had any discussion been as direct at proposing opinions as today!

Moreover, this viewpoint was proposed by the youngest person in the police team.

After a long silence, Captain Li Jian said, ”Jiang An’s analysis just now made a lot of sense.”

”He evidenced that the murder’s objective was to kill from three perspectives.”

”I very much agree!”

Immediately, Captain Li Jian said, ”Since this is a discussion, let’s speak freely, don’t hold back.”

”Apart from Jiang An’s viewpoint, are there any other opinions?”

Instantly, the room fell silent again.

After two minutes, a grey-haired officer said, ”I acknowledge that what Jiang An said made sense.”

”However, I’d like to say that if we categorize this as a premeditated murder case, killing four people consecutively, it requires an immense amount of hatred to act so viciously.”

”All previous investigation materials do not support this conclusion.”

Glancing around, he said, ”I was a member of the task force established back then.”

”I’m quite familiar with the basic situations of these four individuals, and no clues or evidence of deep hatred with others were found during the investigation.”

”So, if we infer a direct motive for murder, there’s no clue from this angle.”

The senior detective spoke very tactfully, giving Jiang An face.

Captain Li Jian listened and nodded lightly.

Back then, this senior officer and I had investigated the personal circumstances of the four deceased, and indeed found no suspicious individuals around them.

Faced with contradictions, one must be wrong.

During crime-solving, it’s even more black or white.

This has always been Jiang An’s persistent belief in solving cases, and he consistently sticks to principles.

At times, it may look contradictory, but in reality, it’s just superficial and lacks depth.

Like a tree, it appears lush and sprawling from above, with branches spread out.

But from below, there’s just one root.

After collecting his thoughts slightly, Jiang An said, ”Mr. Li, respected seniors.”

”I am a forensic pathologist, and I believe the deceased won’t lie!”

Then he said, ”Wan, please open the autopsy photos of that couple.”

”Hold on, they’re in another folder!”

seconds later, Xiao Wan opened the autopsy photos of the two deceased.

After browsing through them, Jiang An said, ”This couple has many wounds on their bodies.”

”There was a significant amount of bleeding at the scene!”

”However, the distribution of these injuries is very characteristic.”

”Firstly, the injuries on this male deceased are distributed on the front chest and limbs.”

”Judging by the injury distribution, these are mainly attack injuries and defensive injuries.”

”This implies that during the murder, there was a violent struggle between the perpetrator and the male deceased.”

Many nodded in agreement upon hearing this.

Then, Jiang An said, ”The situation with this female victim is different.”

”Besides the struggle wounds and defensive wounds, there’s also another kind of injury, which is expressive injury.”

”Expressive injury?”

Upon hearing this professional term, everyone was startled.

Even.

Wu You, with thirty years of forensic experience, was intrigued.

Last year, at a forensic summit forum in Dragon Country, top forensic experts had discussed this professional term.

Wu You recalled that at the summit, a forensic titan from Dragon Country had spent considerable time explaining and analyzing this professional term.

Within Dragon Country’s forensic community, this concept was still in the theoretical research stage.

He hadn’t expected Jiang An to bring it up proactively today.

Moreover, he was discussing it in practice.

This gave Wu You a feeling of the Yangtze River pushing forward the new wave.

If this continues, he estimates he might soon retire to enjoy fishing and street strolling.

Jiang An said, ”Expressive injury is the harm inflicted on the victim’s body to vent inner hatred.”

”These injuries are typified by multiple, repetitive cutting and hacking!”

”Even the destruction of certain specific organs.”

”For instance, some men’s genitals are castrated.”

”Some women’s breasts, genitals, or faces are slashed.”

After a brief pause, Jiang An continued, ”These injuries differ greatly from regular injuries.”

”Behind these injuries lies the perpetrator’s intense emotional expression.”

”To us, it might just be a cut on the skin.”

”In actuality, every cut made by the perpetrator is an act of venting.”

”Every cut is an act of revenge on the deceased.”

Everyone looked grave after hearing Jiang An’s description.

Then, Jiang An said, ”Please pay attention to this case’s indication, as there are apparent expressive injuries on the female body.”

In an instant, all eyes focused on the projection screen.

The whole meeting room was incredibly quiet, as if even the drop of a pin could be heard.

Jiang An continued, ”The injuries on this female victim are distributed on the front side, mainly concentrated on both sides of her breasts.”

”This is an emotional venting on the female individual organs.”

”Meanwhile, there’s a wound across the deceased’s face, spanning from one cheek to the other, looking quite hideous, essentially an act of disfigurement.”

”So, from these two perspectives, the perpetrator harbored an intense hatred toward this female victim.”

”This hatred, reflected on the body, is evident in many expressive injuries.”

As Jiang An finished speaking, an officer with glasses said, ”If there’s expressive injury on female’s special areas, why aren’t there any injuries on the victim’s genital area?”

Jiang An said, ”Before answering this question, I’d like Wan to pull out the photo of the female victim without clothes.”

Then, Xiao Wan brought up a full-body photo.

Jiang An said, ”In this photo, we can see blood stains on the pubic region of the deceased’s body.”

”This indicates the female victim was on her menstrual period.”

”From my understanding of criminal psychology, some men are quite averse to menstrual blood.”

”Thus, some criminals might abandon the intent to assault because of it.”

”From this perspective, I believe the perpetrator likely refrained from attacking the victim’s genital area due to this reason.”

”Isn’t this just your speculation?”

Jiang An supplemented, ”Besides the support from criminal psychology, there’s another crucial basis for this inference - the state of the original scene.”

”Oh?”

”Wan, please show the close-up photo of the original scene’s living room.”

Then, Jiang An pointed at the screen and said, ”In the original photos of the scene, the female victim’s pants are clearly pulled downward.”

”This is the trace of the perpetrator pulling down, checking, and abandoning.”

After Jiang An spoke, everyone nodded in agreement.

Wu You smiled with satisfaction, impressed by Jiang An’s thorough analysis of forensic expressive injuries.

After a long pause, Chen He said softly, ”So, could it be that this male victim’s boyfriend is the perpetrator?”
