The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Climbing Down the Cliff to Search for Evidence

Right after, the group immediately left the Jiang City Forensic Autopsy Center.

Their next destination was to go back to Zizhu Mountain to examine the scene again.

The police car was driving on the ring highway, and Jiang An suddenly asked, ”Mr. Li, where is the pickpocket the Zizhu Road Police Station previously apprehended?”

Li Jian replied, ”I’m not very sure at the moment; I will contact Director Yang Guang later.”

Just as he finished speaking, Chen He said, ”Mr. Li, I contacted Yang Guang this morning; he said that the thief Liu Chuang has never admitted to stealing the shoulder bag, and they plan to send him to the detention center this afternoon.”

Jiang An remarked solemnly, ”That thief has never admitted stealing the shoulder bag.”

”I think there’s a good chance he’s telling the truth.”

Bringing up this topic suddenly, the car fell into silence once again.

The direction of the case had now fundamentally shifted.

Everyone began to re-examine this issue.

After a long pause, Captain Li Jian said, ”If he’s telling the truth, doesn’t it mean that the shoulder bag was discarded by the murderer?”

Chen He responded, ”Mr. Li, I think this possibility is very high.”

”From what I’ve thoroughly understood, the suspect Liu Chuang is a repeat offender, just released last month, and he admitted to stealing handbags from dancing ladies on Zizhu Mountain.”

”He has no reason to quibble about this shoulder bag.”

Jiang An said, ”Captain, is it possible to bring this suspect Liu Chuang to the crime scene and have him identify the spot where he found the shoulder bag?”

After pondering for a moment, Captain Li Jian said, ”No issues, I will contact Yang Guang right away.”

minutes later, at Zizhu Mountain.

The tent was still set up on the ground, surrounded by a cordon.

Compared to the first night here, the surroundings were much brighter now.

Jiang An lifted the cordon and approached the camping tent.

He walked around the tent once more.

Under the sunlight, Jiang An discovered something new again.

The canvas of the tent was stretched straight; apart from faint folding marks, there were no creases at all.

Simultaneously.

The ground around this tent was very tidy, which contrasted sharply with the cleanliness of the adjacent open space.

These were clues not discovered that night, and they were very useful for portraying the character traits of the perpetrator.

Then, Jiang An reached out and unzipped the tent, fully exposing the view inside.

He squatted down at the entrance, observing the interior of the tent.

Three minutes later, Jiang An turned his head and said, ”Senior sister, please bring an evidence bag over here.”

Zhang Yean was taken aback at these words.

Weren’t all the pieces of evidence extracted last night?

How come there’s more?

Immediately, she bent down and picked up a transparent evidence bag and walked over.

”What evidence is it?”

Jiang An said, ”A black hair.”

Then Jiang An picked up a pair of tweezers, grabbed that strand of short hair, and placed it into the evidence bag.

Upon seeing that the black short hair was less than 3 centimeters long, Zhang Yean asked in surprise, ”You can see such a small piece of evidence?”

Jiang An nodded, saying, ”As long as you pay attention to observe, you will definitely discover something.”

After thinking for a moment, Zhang Yean analyzed, saying, ”The deceased had long black hair, so this short hair isn’t hers.”

Jiang An nodded and said, ”I suspect it was left inside when the perpetrator set up the tent.”

At this moment, Captain Li Jian also walked over.

”Where was the hair discovered?”

Jiang An pointed to the ridge at the top of the tent, ”Right here.”

”Are you sure it’s human hair?”

”It looks very much like it!”

Captain Li Jian was overjoyed, and he said, ”That’s good.”

”We can completely use the gene from the hair to find out who the perpetrator is.”

Suddenly, Jiang An poured cold water on his enthusiasm.

”Mr. Li, this hair doesn’t have a follicle at the root, so we can’t perform a human gene test.”

”Huh?”

Li Jian was shocked for a moment and then looked at the old forensic scientist, Wu You.

Wu You took the transparent evidence bag, observed it carefully, and then nodded.

”This hair indeed doesn’t have a follicle, so no genetic profiling can be extracted.”

The originally promising lead for solving the case suddenly turned into a mirage.

Seeing the disappointment on Mr. Li’s face, Jiang An said, ”Actually, this hair is still very useful, at least it further proves the perpetrator had been in this tent.”

Suddenly, Captain Li Jian’s phone rang.

He glanced at the caller ID; it was Guan Hong, the head of the provincial criminal investigation team.

”Mr. Guan!”

”Mr. Li, we just received notice that a female student was killed at Jiang City Information Technology Institute.”

Captain Li Jian promptly replied, ”Report to Mr. Guan; indeed, a female student was killed.”

After pondering briefly, Guan Hong said, ”I heard that initially you almost classified it as an accidental death by disease?”

”Mr. Guan, it’s our oversight; we are now re-investigating the case.”

”This case, which made you misjudge for the first time, must be complicated.”

”I will soon lead a team of senior forensic and investigation experts to Jiang City to support you in solving the case.”

”Thank you for your concern, Mr. Guan, we look forward to your arrival.”

After hanging up the phone, Captain Li Jian’s face instantly felt burning hot.

His first feeling wasn’t concern; it was humiliation.

This clearly demonstrated a lack of trust in Jiang City’s criminal investigation.

Captain Li Jian thought to himself, ”The less trust there is, the more I need to prove myself.”

At this moment, Yang Guang led two officers and brought suspect Liu Chuang over.

The nature of the case had turned 180 degrees, and Yang Guang suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.

He stepped forward and said, ”Mr. Li, I brought the suspect Liu Chuang over.”

As he spoke, Yang Guang specially glanced at Jiang An and nodded.

Captain Li Jian asked sternly, ”Lead the way to where he found the shoulder bag.”

Ten minutes later, the group stopped by the edge of a cliff.

Liu Chuang pointed below the cliff and said, ”I discovered the shoulder bag on that branch.”

Jiang An walked near the edge of the cliff and looked down.

The cliff was deep, with some low trees growing along the rock face.

Zhang Yean reminded him, ”Junior brother, be careful not to fall down.”

Chen He quickly stepped forward and grabbed Jiang An’s belt.

After observing, Jiang An turned back and said, ”This cliff is very deep; Mr. Yang, is there any way to get down?”

Yang Guang helplessly shrugged and said helplessly, ”To tell you the truth, I’ve been at the Zizhu Police Station for quite some time and have never heard of anyone going down.”

Jiang An said, ”Mr. Li, this place should be where the perpetrator discarded the victim’s belongings.”

”It’s just that the shoulder bag happened to get caught on a branch while falling off the cliff.”

After pausing a bit, Jiang An added, ”I suspect the victim’s phone and murder weapon are likely also at the bottom of this cliff.”

Captain Li Jian approached the edge of the cliff and looked down, his expression grave.

Immediately, he said in a deep voice, ”I’ll contact the fire department right away.”

”Request them to bring climbing ropes to descend to the bottom of the cliff and search for critical evidence.”
