Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Not the End, but the Beginning!

10:30 AM.

Jiang An and Zhang Yean returned to the Jiang City Forensic Autopsy Center once again.

Compared to last night’s terror under the cover of darkness, the forensic autopsy center appeared peaceful and serene under the sunlight.

Even when passing by the funeral home’s courtyard where they encountered three funeral processions, Zhang Yean felt no fear at all.

Unlocking the entrance door by facial recognition, Jiang An and Zhang Yean stepped inside the forensic autopsy center.

Zhang Yean curiously asked, ”Where should we look for evidence?”

Jiang An replied resolutely, ”Let’s start with the cadaver, then proceed to toxicology testing using chemical instruments.”

Zhang Yean nodded.

Despite the fact that the entire Criminal Investigation Team had practically reached a conclusion about the case.

Yet, Zhang Yean decided to support this junior colleague.

The reason behind this decision was not only Jiang An’s forensic talents but also his good looks.

Five minutes later, Jiang An and Zhang Yean had donned their experimental protective suits.

Regardless of past lives or present, this was a principle Jiang An had always adhered to when entering the autopsy room.

It was a measure to protect himself, family, and friends.

At this moment.

Li Yan’s corpse still lay on the forensic autopsy table, covered with a white cloth.

Jiang An lifted the white cloth, revealing the waxy white cadaver.

There was a vertical stitched wound on her chest and abdomen, with the edge of the stitches resembling the legs of a centipede.

This was the incision from the organ dissection performed last night.

Unlike last night’s comprehensive and systematic autopsy, today’s examination focused on specific areas.

Jiang An extended Li Yan’s right arm to fully expose the armpit area.

He turned and said, ”Senior sister, could you help hold her arm?”

Immediately, Zhang Yean walked over and gripped the deceased’s wrist with both hands.

As Jiang An let go, Zhang Yean felt the deceased’s arm exerting ”a lot of force.”

Fortunately, she was a regular at the gym, having added some strength training during her yoga and weight-loss exercises.

Otherwise, the deceased’s right arm would definitely ”withdraw.”

Zhang Yean furrowed her brows and asked, ”Does her arm seem to retract on its own?”

Jiang An approached with a camera and replied, ”The deceased’s muscles are in a state of high spasm and contraction. When we extend her upper arm, we’re actually resisting the muscular tension.”

Zhang Yean glanced at the deceased lying on the stainless steel autopsy table and shook her head.

”She had a slim figure; it was hard to tell her muscles were so strong.”

”Junior, you need to examine quickly, I can’t hold on for much longer.”

Jiang An said, ”Soon, it’ll be over.”

Then, Jiang An squatted down slightly, focusing his gaze on the deceased’s right-side armpit.

The deceased’s armpit hair had just been shaved and hadn’t grown back, indicating it was shaved not long before death.

In the lower midsection of the armpit, there was a visible red dot, slightly smaller than a mung bean.

After snapping three close-up photos, Jiang An took a magnifying glass to enlarge the red dot.

As expected.

A small hole lay in the center of the red dot, resembling a volcanic crater, its diameter similar to the needle of a 3ml syringe.

Jiang An particularly observed the edge of the small hole.

Under normal circumstances, when the skin ruptures, the body’s repair mechanism is immediately activated, resulting in the seepage of tissue fluid and the accumulation of white blood cells and phagocytes.

However, this small hole showed no signs of skin healing.

In Jiang An’s mind, the research topic done during his past life as a professor, titled ”Forensic Analysis of Time of Human Lesions,” resurfaced.

For such wounds that show no signs of skin repair, there are only two possibilities.

One possibility is that the wound was produced post-mortem.

In this scenario, the body ceased functioning and lost the ability to repair the wound.

Another possibility is the wound forming shortly before instant death.

Under this scenario, the body didn’t have time to initiate the skin’s repair mechanism before the body expired.

Jiang An studied the wound under the magnifying glass and concluded it aligned with the second possibility.

Because.

The skin around this wound turned red.

This is a key indicator of being pricked pre-mortem.

Generally, at the moment the skin ruptures, the surrounding tissue spaces exhibit signs of inflammatory bleeding.

Similar to when blood is drawn during hospital check-ups, upon withdrawal of the needle, a small red dot remains at the puncture site.

This is the normal reaction of skin wound formation when alive.

However, post blood tests, we rarely pay attention to this puncture site.

After pondering for a while, Jiang An reached a clear judgment.

This small wound is an injection site.

Moreover, Li Yan died shortly after the injection was administered.

Suddenly, Zhang Yean exclaimed, ”I can’t hold on much longer!”

Jiang An said, ”Senior sister, please hold on for five more seconds while I excise the skin at the injection site.”

”Huh?”

Uttering such a casual remark, Zhang Yean was visibly taken aback.

Do forensic scientists display such rawness and brashness in the lab?

In a blink of an eye, he picked up the Willow Leaf Blade.

Jiang An’s hand reached out, inserted the blade, exerted pressure, and rotated the knife in one fluid motion.

Instantly, a coin-sized piece of skin tissue was extracted.

”Senior sister, you can let go of her arm now. Thanks for your hard work!”

Zhang Yean felt relieved, shaking her hands.

She glanced at the tray with the skin tissue and asked, ”Is this piece of skin the evidence?”

Jiang An shook his head and said, ”We also need to extract two tubes of the deceased’s blood.”

”Blood?”

Jiang An replied, ”If my assumptions are correct, the toxin entered through the armpit and absorbed into the bloodstream, making blood an ideal sample.”

Zhang Yean nodded, ”Got it!”

”But why two tubes?”

Jiang An’s lips curled slightly as he said, ”The other tube is to explore how the perpetrator had the opportunity to inject the poison.”

Then, he took a large syringe and drew blood from Li Yan’s heart, separating it into two tubes.

After completing these tasks, Jiang An took the two tubes of blood and the piece of skin into the toxicology analysis lab, placing them into an automated detection box.

Meanwhile.

In the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team’s Deputy Captain’s office, Chen He was rapidly tapping on a keyboard.

The computer screen displayed a document titled ”Termination Report on the Investigation of Li Yan’s Death Case.”

Half an hour later, the 2,000-word investigation report was about to conclude.

”In summary, the deceased Li Yan fits the criteria for accidental death due to epilepsy.”

After finishing the last sentence, Chen He clicked the print button and stretched lazily.

Five minutes later, he arrived at Li Jian’s office.

”Mr. Li, here’s the termination report on the investigation of Li Yan’s death case. Please review it.”

”So fast!”

Chen He smiled and said, ”The sooner it’s completed, the sooner the school can handle it.”

Li Jian took the investigation report and began to read attentively.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

Li Jian reached for the phone charging on the desk.

”Hello! Jiang An.”

”Mr. Li! We’ve detected tetramine in the blood of the deceased, Li Yan.”

”What?”

With a thud, Mr. Li’s phone fell onto the desk.

His face changed drastically, and he quickly picked up the phone.

”We’ve detected tetramine in the deceased’s blood.”

Jiang An repeated, ”The perpetrator did not poison through food but injected it through the armpit.”

After a long pause, Li Jian urgently asked, ”Where are you?”

”Forensic Autopsy Center!”

”We’re coming over immediately!”
