The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Ambidextrous Autopsy—Anomalies Discovered at the Start

Captain Li Jian was the highest-ranking person in this group.

He neither confirmed Jiang An’s conclusion of homicide nor denied Yang Guang’s conclusion of suicide or accident.

He merely stated the principled direction for the investigation of the case, which seemed to lack a clear perspective.

Then, Captain Li Jian arranged and said, ”Next, our Criminal Investigation Team will carry out work mainly from the following three aspects.”

”First, conduct a comprehensive and detailed autopsy on the deceased to clarify the cause of death, particularly if there’s a conclusion of poisoning by tetramine, scientific experimental data must be provided.”

”Second, conduct a detailed re-examination of the death scene. Due to the lighting tonight, some small pieces of evidence might have been missed, so tomorrow in daylight, we will thoroughly inspect the place again to try to uncover more clues.”

”Third, investigate the identity of the deceased. We must first determine who the deceased is. In cases of unidentified bodies, only after establishing the identity can we further analyze all the interpersonal relationships of the deceased.”

As it was approaching midnight, many members of the Criminal Investigation Team left after arranging the next steps.

But Jiang An did not leave.

He stepped forward and said, ”Mr. Li, I want to conduct the autopsy examination tonight.”

Captain Li Jian was taken aback.

He raised his wrist to check the time, it showed 11:50 PM.

Captain Li Jian said with concern, ”It’s too late today, it’s your first day at work, go back, have a good rest, and do the autopsy tomorrow.”

Jiang An said, ”Today is my first day reporting in and I’ve already earned a personal third-class merit, which is the leadership’s recognition of me, but even more so their expectation.”

”I want to quickly find out the cause of death and determine the nature of the case’s death.”

”Otherwise, I won’t be able to sleep even if I lie in bed.”

After hearing this, Captain Li Jian felt a bit hesitant.

He understood this passion just starting out at work.

When he first started working, he was also full of energy every day.

Moreover, to earn a personal third-class merit on the first day is practically a legend in the criminal police world.

Some people might work for ten years and never earn a personal third-class merit.

Suddenly, Captain Li Jian understood Jiang An’s inner enthusiasm and impulsiveness.

Then, he looked up at Wu You not far away.

After all, to conduct a forensic autopsy overnight, it was not compliant with forensic autopsy protocol for one forensic doctor to carry it out.

At least two or more forensic doctors must be present together.

Jiang An was a young man full of vigor.

Wu You had been striving for years, his body had been seriously depleted.

For this new apprentice, Wu You was very satisfied.

He nodded in tacit approval.

Seeing Wu You’s response, Captain Li Jian said, ”Alright then! Let’s carry out the autopsy tonight.”

Finally, Captain Li Jian said, ”I’ll go with you!”

”In all these years of criminal investigation work, I’ve never experienced a forensic autopsy room at this hour.”

At this time, Zhang Yean also hurried over.

”Captain, I want to apply to go along too.”

”You?”

Li Jian asked in surprise.

”Yes! I also want to pursue progress.”

Li Jian smiled helplessly and said, ”The forensic autopsy room is next to the funeral home, are you sure you want to go with us?”

Zhang Yean nodded firmly.

After a brief pause, Captain Li Jian said, ”Miss Zhang, you should go back. If your father finds out I arranged this, the taxes paid by your family would decrease significantly, and our salaries wouldn’t be guaranteed.”

”Mr. Li, please agree, my dad is in Australia on business, he won’t find out.”

Li Jian hesitated.

After all, when Zhang Yean joined the police, Mr. Ma repeatedly instructed to pay special attention to her.

It seemed a bit uncaring of employees to take a girl to the forensic autopsy center by the funeral home at such a late hour.

At the moment of Captain Li Jian’s indecision, Jiang An stepped forward and said, ”Mr. Li, senior sister has already been to the forensic autopsy center once in the morning, she’s accustomed to the environment and atmosphere there.”

Zhang Yean quickly nodded and then said, ”Mr. Li, if we find crucial evidence during the autopsy, I’ll be able to apply for a merit in the future.”

”Not letting me participate in the autopsy is depriving me of the opportunity to earn merit.”

Captain Li Jian smiled reluctantly and said, ”Not letting you go, I’m not only stopping your progress but also depriving your chance to earn merit.”

”If I really don’t let you go, wouldn’t I become a sinner?”

”Then we must all go together!”

Zhang Yean replied with a smile, ”Thank you, Captain Li Jian, for making it happen.”

Then she turned to look at Jiang An.

minutes later, the four arrived at Jiangcheng City Funeral Home.

In the deep night.

The dim street lamps in the funeral home’s yard were swaying continuously.

The roadside was dotted with many striking white wreaths.

The police car continued to drive forward, turned a corner, and arrived at the door of Jiang City Forensic Autopsy Center.

The entrance gate had already been opened.

minutes earlier, the corpse transport vehicle had already brought the body here in advance.

The four walked into the forensic autopsy center together.

Wu You said, ”Mr. Li, Zhang Yean, I suggest you both also put on forensic protective clothing.”

Li Jian gestured dismissively with his hand, saying, ”I’m not that particular, no need to wear it.”

Wu You said, ”Mr. Li, this person most likely was poisoned by tetramine. If the toxin gets on your clothes, it might cause secondary poisoning.”

Upon hearing this, Captain Li Jian hurriedly said, ”Then put it on! Otherwise, there’s really a risk of becoming a martyr.”

Zhang Yean said, ”I want to wear protective clothing too.”

minutes later, the four of them, donned in autopsy protective suits, entered Forensic Autopsy Room No. 2.

The corpse had already been placed on the stainless-steel forensic autopsy table.

After Li Rui’s autopsy examination in the morning, Wu You asked, ”Does this body not need an autopsy worker either?”

Jiang An nodded.

With Wu You’s assistance, Jiang An quickly removed the deceased’s clothes.

Then, Wu You took two willow leaf blades from the instrument tray, kept one for himself, and handed one to Jiang An.

”Mr. Wu, give me both willow leaf blades.”

”This time, I’ll perform the autopsy with both hands simultaneously.”

Wu You was taken aback, ”Perform the autopsy with both hands simultaneously?”

As soon as he spoke, Jiang An took both willow leaf blades, and simultaneously started from the chest of the deceased.

One blade extended downwards to the perineum.

The other blade extended upwards to the jaw.

Where the blade tips swept, skin, muscles, blood vessels, and nerves instantaneously separated.

His movements were as smooth as flowing clouds and water.

Forensic autopsy was no longer gory, but became an art.

The moment the chest skin of the deceased was exposed, the two willow leaf blades in Jiang An’s hands suddenly stopped.

He stood there, staring at the structures beneath the skin with wide eyes.

Standing beside Jiang An, Li Jian, Wu You, and Zhang Yean curiously leaned in to see.

Instantly, their faces changed dramatically.
