Chapter 21: Chapter 21: This Wasn’t Sudden Death, But Poisoning!

At this moment, on the platform halfway up Zizhu Mountain.

The director of the local police station, Li Guang, is anxiously waiting.

After 25 minutes, Captain Li Jian appears in Li Guang’s sight leading a large team.

”A crowd of people?”

”The criminal investigation team dealing with death cases never exceeds 10 people; why are so many here this time?”

A police officer from the local station next to him asked in surprise.

Yang Guang was taken aback, stunned on the spot.

Since when did the criminal investigation team pay so much attention to death cases?

This is a full mobilization!

Instantly, Yang Guang felt very excited inside.

Captain Li Jian bringing such a team over really gives a lot of face.

Yang Guang stepped forward, ”Mr. Li, thank you for your hard work!”

Captain Li Jian nodded and asked, ”Where is the death scene?”

Yang Guang raised his hand and pointed towards the white caution tape at the 11 o’clock direction.

”We have already secured the scene.”

Following the direction of Yang Guang’s finger, Jiang An saw an army green tent situated in the middle of the caution tape.

”How was the deceased discovered?”

Captain Li Jian asked while walking.

”An hour ago, a passerby hiking here reported it.”

”A passerby?”

”This reporter comes here to jog every day, and he noticed the tent here for three consecutive days, which seemed odd.”

”He called out a few times with no response, then curiously unzipped the tent, discovering the female deceased.”

”Is the identity of the deceased confirmed?”

”We took a preliminary look at the body and found no identification.”

While they were discussing, Jiang An was also gathering important information.

Immediately, he asked, ”Has the original scene been altered?”

Upon hearing this, Yang Guang turned to look at Jiang An.

”Mr. Li, who is this?”

”Oh! Forgot to introduce, this is Jiang An, the new forensic expert in our criminal investigation team.”

”So it’s a top student, being a forensic expert is a technical job, impressive.”

Captain Li Jian, while walking, said, ”He is not just any forensic expert, his case-solving ability is even more impressive than that of a detective.”

Yang Guang said, ”I’ll have to learn more from you in the future.”

Then he answered Jiang An’s question.

”This is the original scene; we have not moved the body.”

”Initially, we just unzipped the tent to take a look.”

Jiang An nodded.

It’s important to know that for scene investigation work, the original state of the death scene is very crucial.

The original scene.

If it is suicide, it means only traces left by the deceased.

If it is homicide, it means traces left by both the deceased and the killer.

In Jiang An’s view, the essence of reasoning in a crime scene is transforming static trace evidence into a dynamic process of committing the crime.

The group arrived next to the caution tape.

This time’s scene investigation is truly an elite setup.

Yang Guang glanced around, ”Mr. Li, truly flattered, thanks for the attention the criminal investigation team gives to our local work.”

Mr. Li took a look and said, ”Mr. Yang, we were just having a gathering at the foot of the mountain, about to eat lamb.”

Instantly, Yang Guang’s proud expression became stiff.

No wonder some of the old mates in the criminal team looked quite displeased earlier.

Finally, the reason was found.

Immediately, Yang Guang quickly said, ”Mr. Li, truly sorry for interrupting your gathering.”

”Our area on this mountain has many campers, I guess it might likely be an accidental sudden death during camping.”

Captain Li Jian turned around and said, ”Mr. Yang, whether it’s an accidental sudden death, you and I don’t get to decide, it’s up to the forensic expert.”

”Let’s go!”

”We will immediately start investigating the scene.”

At this moment, Jiang An had already put on gloves, a mask, shoe covers, and other protective gear.

For any death case, the forensic expert must be the first person to enter the center of the death scene.

The original state of the scene is especially important in the analysis of the entire death process.

The posture, position, clothing of the deceased.

The distribution of surrounding items, whether there are any coverings.

These all contain rich information for scene reasoning.

Jiang An approached the tent and walked around the tent in a circle.

The tent had good sealing.

No breaches or damage.

With the strong flashlight, one could vaguely see wrinkles on the tight tent fabric.

Moreover, the wrinkles on this canvas seemed not chaotic, with no overlap.

Jiang An squatted down to observe carefully.

For him, this was a very important finding.

Then he slowly moved to the entrance of the tent, focusing on the zipper.

The plastic zipper showed a few canvas bits caught in the zipper gap.

Jiang An took a ruler and placed it as a marker.

Immediately, he turned and said, ”Sister, please photograph this.”

Zhang Yean is an evidence engineer in the Jiangcheng City Bureau, mainly responsible for photographing crime scenes.

Photographing the crime scene is essentially the process of recording physical evidence at the crime scene.

After all, photos of the scene evidence are the most objective.

Upon hearing Jiang An’s call, Zhang Yean, with a camera around her neck, stepped forward.

”Where?”

”Here!”

Jiang An raised his hand pointing at the gap in the zipper.

”Click, click”

With the two shutter sounds of the camera, the evidence was clearly documented.

At this moment, Captain Li Jian, Wu You, both witnessed this scene, and felt very surprised.

Forensic science and scene investigation are not the same specialization.

However!

Jiang An’s set of actions in the caution tape seemed very professional,

from surveying around the tent to inspecting the zipper, capturing and collecting evidence photos.

The actions were completed smoothly, like floating clouds and flowing water.

Even more seasoned than veteran scene investigation experts.

Even!

Seeing Jiang An’s actions, Captain Li Jian’s mind quickly recalled Dr. Li Changyu.

Three years ago, Li Jian had the fortune to attend a training course by Dr. Li Changyu.

Jiang An’s recent series of actions aligned closely with Li Changyu’s scene investigation procedures.

It’s important to know!

Today is Jiang An’s first day on the job.

This is Jiang An’s first participation in an actual forensic scene corpse examination.

Captain Li Jian and Wu You were old partners.

He raised his hand, patting Wu You’s shoulder.

”Mr. Wu, with such an outstanding apprentice, do you feel any pressure?”

Wu You’s mouth curled slightly, ”Not a bit of pressure.”

The younger waves of the Yangtze River push the older waves, the preceding waves die on the beach.

Captain Li Jian was a bit surprised.

”Mr. Wu, your many years in forensic work have built up your psychological strength, huh?”

Wu You said, ”I absolutely can’t surpass him, he stands at the forefront of forensic science from the start.”

While the two were chatting, Jiang An had completely unzipped the tent.

Instantly!

A female corpse appeared in front of Jiang An and Zhang Yean’s eyes.

The deceased lying face up, laid very tidily on a soft cushioned pad.

A pair of white sneakers placed beside.

Paused at the entrance of the tent, Jiang An did not move the body.

He continued to observe comprehensively, attempting to integrate all information about the body, clothing, pad, sneakers into his mind.

As the tent opened, Li Jian, Wu You, and Yang Guang all walked over simultaneously.

Yang Guang glanced and said, ”She looks so peaceful, it’s probably accidental sudden death!”

Li Jian and Wu You were observing but did not rush to speak.

Next, Jiang An reached out to lift the deceased’s hands and legs.

Very stiff.

He quickly stood up, said in a deep voice, ”The deceased did not die from accidental sudden death, but from poisoning!”

Instantly, the expression on everyone’s face turned serious.
