The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Is Your Evidence Sufficient?

The atmosphere at the scene immediately became tense upon hearing the words.

However, Yang Guang, the head of the police station, met Jiang An on his first day and was completely unfamiliar with him.

Yang Guang questioned, ”Can you really tell if it’s poisoning just by looking?”

Although he didn’t study criminal technology, he had worked in public security for years, and with the widespread broadcasting of forensic series like Mr. Qin, Wu You, and Forensic Heroes, he had acquired some professional knowledge.

Yang Guang believed that to determine poisoning, it was essential to extract the contents of the stomach for toxicological analysis.

Could it really be determined just by a glance?

At that moment, nobody answered Yang Guang’s question, nor did anyone pay attention to his doubts.

Everyone’s focus was on the female corpse standing before them.

All eyes were on Jiang An’s movements.

Especially Li Jian and Wu You, who held their breath, concentrated intensely.

Since Jiang An raised the issue, he must have discovered something.

At this moment, they didn’t want to disturb Jiang An’s thoughts or distract him.

Jiang An shifted his body and crouched closer to the female corpse.

He took out two metal tweezers from his toolbox, gently separating the right pocket of the deceased’s pants.

The action was very slow and extremely careful.

Jiang An kept in mind the principle that the pockets or handbags should always be observed using tweezers.

Primarily, he was concerned that the deceased might be carrying blades or needles.

Should blades or needles bear contagious diseases like AIDS, syphilis, or gonorrhea, they would become occupational hazards.

After using the tweezers to open the right pocket, Jiang An observed carefully and found nothing.

Using the same operation.

He separated the left pocket of the deceased’s pants again.

Still, no items were found.

Once he finished checking the deceased’s pockets, Jiang An looked around the corpse again.

To the left of the deceased’s head, there was a black flashlight.

Jiang An turned his head and said, ”Please bring an evidence bag over, Senior Sister.”

Zhang Yean comprehended immediately, ”Just a moment.”

Jiang An picked up the flashlight, brought it closer, and observed carefully.

The switch of the black flashlight was in the off position.

The flashlight had no signs of wear on its patterned outer surface.

Jiang An changed his observation angle and noticed slight remnants of white adhesive tape on the back of the flashlight.

Bringing it closer again, he saw that the leftover tape formed an arc shape, vaguely revealing a character, ”...証”

Jiang An nodded, placing the black flashlight into the kraft evidence bag.

”Please let the trace lab check if there are any fingerprints left on it.”

Senior Sister replied, ”I’ll take it to the trace lab when we return.”

Jiang An’s attention shifted to a package of snacks on the left side of the deceased.

He reached out and brought it over.

A white tote bag with no store logos.

Inside the tote bag were bucket popcorn, cola, chips, spicy strips, tofu skin, and other snacks.

These snacks could be found everywhere with no distinguishing features.

Yang Guang looked at the pile of snacks and said again, ”Carrying so many things, it really seems like they were here for camping.”

After speaking, nobody responded again.

Li Jian, Wu You, and the rest of the investigation team focused their attention entirely on observation.

To be precise.

They were carefully observing Jiang An’s hand movements.

Next, Jiang An searched the surroundings of the deceased again.

He said, ”There are no identification documents near the deceased.”

”No backpack here.”

”No phone belonging to the deceased found.”

Li Jian asked, ”Could it be under the deceased’s body?”

Jiang An replied, ”When I checked the back during rigor mortis examination earlier, I didn’t find anything.”

Li Jian furrowed his brows and muttered, ”That’s strange, young people wouldn’t leave without their phone.”

At this moment, Yang Guang looked around and said, ”Mr. Li, our district’s mountain lacks surveillance and security, and usually many people come here for jogging.”

”I wonder if someone thought the deceased was asleep and stole their backpack?”

Li Jian looked at Yang Guang.

After a string of ignored viewpoints, his statement finally got attention.

Yang Guang seemed encouraged.

He continued, ”Mr. Li, we recently had a spate of burglaries in our area.”

”In some cases, thieves quietly entered bedrooms and took the owner’s charging phones without them noticing.”

”Based on my experience, I feel it’s very plausible that a thief stole the backpack.”

Li Jian listened and smirked slightly, saying, ”What you said makes sense.”

”But, what’s your take on this death?”

Yang Guang had his own thoughts on this matter.

He said, ”I think it’s possible to rule out sudden death during camping.”

”Earlier, when Jiang An mentioned poisoning, even if it were due to poisoning, it’s likely a self-administered suicide.”

”This corpse lies too peacefully, like sleeping.”

After a while, Li Jian responded, ”Makes sense!”

Yang Guang was somewhat puzzled by the repeated response.

”Makes sense,” what does it mean?

After a brief interlude, Li Jian refocused on Jiang An.

Jiang An said, ”Senior Sister, please bring the spotlight closer.”

Zhang Yean bent deeper, her full chest pressing against Jiang An’s head.

The head’s delicate nerves detected the soft touch.

With a deep understanding of human anatomy, Jiang An immediately recognized the texture above him.

However, his mind was entirely occupied with uncovering the truth, not distracted at all.

Indeed, with the bright light closer, Jiang An could see the deceased’s face completely, an almond-shaped face.

Two willow-leaf eyebrows, neatly trimmed, with even edges.

Long black hair, spread on both sides of the head.

Apart from the skin lacking any hint of blood, everything else matched many aesthetic standards.

While examining, Jiang An narrated, ”The deceased was wearing a white T-shirt with no visible stains on the chest, a black bra underneath, and it hadn’t shifted.”

”The deceased wore blue jeans, sitting at a proper height, belt intact, black underwear underneath, in a normal position.”

”Postmortem lividity is found on the back, does not fade when pressed, cornea is highly cloudy, deducing the time of death to be over 48 hours.”

”However, the corpse is very stiff, with limbs in spasms.”

Upon hearing this, Wu You’s brow furrowed into a river character; typically, after 48 hours postmortem, rigor mortis sets in, and muscles relax.

Why would the corpse still be stiff?

After a while, Wu You’s eyes brightened, seemingly understanding why Jiang An claimed the deceased was poisoned.

As Wu You was in deep thought, Jiang An suddenly stood up and said in a deep voice, ”Mr. Li, Mr. Wu, this female deceased was murdered!”

Immediately, the surrounding turned completely quiet, the atmosphere dropped to freezing point.

Li Jian asked, ”Is the evidence of murder conclusive?”

Jiang An nodded, ”Conclusive!”
