The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: I Know the Murderer’s Modus Operandi

9:10 AM, Jiangcheng Information Technology College.

Deputy Captain of the Criminal Investigation Team, Chen He, led two investigators to the academic affairs office.

”Mr. Wang, hello, we are police officers from the criminal investigation team. We are here today mainly to learn about your second-year student Li Yan.”

As he spoke, Chen He displayed his police badge.

Mr. Wang glanced at the badge and asked in a deep voice, ”Hello! Has something happened to Li Yan?”

Chen He said solemnly, ”She’s dead!”

Instantly, Mr. Wang’s face changed dramatically.

After a moment of shock, she raised her hand to smooth her long hair and asked, ”Where was she found?”

”On Zizhu Mountain!”

”Was it an accidental death?”

”The investigation is ongoing, and no conclusion has been reached yet.”

Mr. Wang composed herself and said, ”I am in charge of academic affairs. For more detailed information about her, her counselor Yang Lan is more knowledgeable. I’ll call her to come over right away.”

”Okay! Thank you.”

Three minutes later, a young woman walked into the academic affairs office.

”Mr. Wang, did you ask for me?”

Yang Lan looked up and asked.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the three uniformed police officers sitting nearby and looked a bit puzzled.

Mr. Wang’s expression suddenly became serious.

”Where is your department’s student Li Yan?”

Yang Lan answered, ”Three days ago, she took leave to go camping and relax.”

Then, she turned and looked at the three police officers next to her, asking, ”What happened? Did she break the law?”

Chen He said solemnly, ”We suspect she is already dead.”

Instantly, Yang Lan staggered backward, raising her hands to cover her mouth.

”Impossible! Impossible!”

Chen He took out his police-issued phone and opened a facial photo of the deceased.

”Please confirm again, is the deceased Li Yan?”

After calming her emotions slightly, Yang Lan mustered the courage to step forward, looking closely at the phone screen.

Immediately, Yang Lan let out a sob.

After pausing for a moment, Chen He said, ”Ms. Yang, please accept our condolences.”

”We are here mainly to learn about Li Yan’s situation before she died.”

Yang Lan nodded tearfully.

She whispered, ”This student was unfortunate, her life full of misfortunes.”

”Five years ago, a car accident caused a skull fracture and brain damage. After being discharged, she developed epilepsy, which is commonly known as epilepsy, and she had a few episodes in her freshman year.”

Meanwhile, Captain Li Jian, along with Wu You, Jiang An, and Zhang Yean, had breakfast across from the police bureau.

The previously delicious Capital City soup-filled buns were tasteless today.

The four walked into the gates of the Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau.

Captain Li Jian said solemnly, ”After working all night, things are becoming clearer. The three of you can take the morning off and get some good rest.”

Then, he patted Jiang An on the shoulder and instructed, ”Don’t be discouraged! You have great potential as a forensic expert, and you will encounter more bizarre and outrageous cases in the future.”

”You all go back first, I’ll go see Mr. Ma.”

After saying that, he turned and left.

Two minutes later, Captain Li Jian knocked on the door of Mr. Ma’s office.

”Come in!”

”Mr. Ma!”

Seeing it was Li Jian entering, Mr. Ma said, ”You’ve worked hard! How is it going?”

After taking a seat, Captain Li Jian replied, ”As of now, the identity of the deceased is clear. She is Li Yan, a second-year student at Jiangcheng Information Technology College.”

”What were the conclusions of the autopsy?”

”The deceased showed no signs of blunt force trauma, sharp object lacerations, smothering, or strangulation, and no common toxins were detected in her body.”

Mr. Ma, being an experienced investigator, already had a rough conclusion in mind after hearing Captain Li Jian’s description of the body.

He took out two cigarettes, handing one to Li Jian.

Mr. Ma took a couple of puffs and said, ”It seems that Li Yan’s death is not a homicide case?”

After hesitating for a moment, Captain Li Jian answered, ”As it stands, there isn’t enough evidence of a homicide in this case.”

Li Jian had been under Mr. Ma’s leadership since joining the police force.

Back then, Mr. Ma was still the captain of the investigation team.

He was quite familiar with Li Jian.

After some contemplation, Mr. Ma asked, ”Why, is the conclusion of this case a bit difficult?”

Captain Li Jian nodded, ”I feel something is strange, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.”

Mr. Ma grinned.

”We are detectives, and solving cases depends on reasoning and evidence, so don’t make subjective assumptions.”

”Mr. Ma, from the first day with you, I kept this in mind.”

”I see you have heavy circles under your eyes, after an all-nighter, go get some rest.”

At this moment, in the Zizhu Road Police Station,

Yang Guang had ”invited” Liu Chuang to the interrogation room.

He said, ”I just confirmed with the owner that the total value of items in the four stolen handbags exceeds ten thousand, meeting the criteria for theft. Looks like you’re going back to sewing machines.”

Liu Chuang kept his head down, saying nothing.

After a pause, Yang Guang said solemnly, ”However, there’s currently an opportunity for meritorious service. Do you want it?”

Upon hearing the words ”meritorious service,” Liu Chuang immediately looked up at Yang Guang, eyes full of anticipation.

Subsequently, Yang Guang turned around and pointed to the shoulder bag behind him.

”Tell me what the story is with this shoulder bag?”

Liu Chuang hurriedly said, ”Brother, I’m really not lying to you.”

”I found this shoulder bag.”

Yang Guang sneered and tapped the table, saying, ”I’ve heard of people finding phones, wallets, keys.”

”Today is the first time I’ve heard of someone finding a shoulder bag.”

Liu Chuang shrugged helplessly, saying, ”Mr. Yang, I’m really not lying to you.”

”Three nights ago, I was on Zizhu Mountain, looking for theft targets when I noticed a shoulder bag hanging on the treetop by the cliff from behind a bamboo grove.”

”At that time, I used a long bamboo stick to hook it up.”

Wu You, Jiang An, and Zhang Yean didn’t go back to rest.

The three of them walked back to the office together.

Despite pulling an all-nighter, due to huge emotional fluctuations, there was no sleepiness at all.

As soon as they got back to the office, Jiang An immediately copied the photos from last night’s autopsy onto the computer.

He wanted to observe and review them carefully to see if there were any clues.

A forensic expert’s intuition told him.

This case is not simple.

Zhang Yean brewed three cups of coffee in the pantry and brought them over.

Wu You received the coffee, muttering to himself, ”If there’s no rodenticide in the body, why are the dead person’s muscles stiff?”

”Mr. Chen went to the school to investigate, let me call him and ask how it’s going.”

Then he dialed Chen He’s phone number.

As soon as the call connected, Chen He said, ”Mr. Wu!”

”Mr. Chen, did Li Yan have any special medical conditions before she died?”

”Mr. Wu, Li Yan had epilepsy due to residual neurological damage from a car accident.”

”Epilepsy?”

”Yes, she had several episodes in her freshman year.”

After hanging up, Wu You said gravely, ”The deceased had epilepsy before her death.”

Zhang Yean curiously asked, ”Is that what people commonly call epilepsy?”

Wu You nodded and replied, ”This condition causes limb convulsions and stiffness during episodes, which can be fatal.”

Zhang Yean asked, ”So, it seems like she really died suddenly by accident?”

Wu You nodded in agreement.

At this moment.

Jiang An was staring at the computer screen, browsing through each autopsy photo.

Suddenly, his hand, which was sliding the mouse, stopped.

A photo of the right arm spread across the entire computer screen.

He dragged the mouse to zoom in on the photo.

Excitedly, Jiang An turned and said, ”I know how the perpetrator committed the crime.”
