Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2375: Chapter 2268: I’m Courting You

”No need to pick it up. I’ll just eat what’s left,” Cheng Yue quickly said.

”What? Blushing? Feeling shy?” Shen Qiqi laughed and said, ”You don’t like onions. When have you not acted like an old man pushing the plate towards me? When have I not picked them for you?”

”Not this time,” Cheng Yue said, looking at Shen Qiqi with a headache, ”I can eat them myself. Don’t worry about it, just hurry up and eat your food, so you can finish quickly and head back.”

”No! You promised, we still need to watch a movie afterward.”

Cheng Yue: ”...”

”I’m full!” Yan Huan grabbed her bag and stood up, ”You guys take your time, I’m leaving first!”

”I’ll take you home!” Ji Chuan said.

Yan Huan neither agreed nor refused.

She quickly walked downstairs to settle the bill: ”Table 216, please!”

The server saw Ji Chuan coming over, calculated the bill, and handed the remaining money to him: ”You spent a total of three hundred yuan, here’s two hundred yuan change.”

”Thank you,” Ji Chuan took the money and tucked it into his pocket.

”What’s going on? Wasn’t I supposed to treat? How did you pay first?” Yan Huan suddenly realized, tonight was all planned.

In an instant, she became angry: ”Ji Chuan, how much effort did you put into this? Tell me, did you arrange for these two to show up too?”

”You misunderstood,” Ji Chuan didn’t expect Yan Huan to think this way, he explained calmly, ”I didn’t plan for Cheng Yue and Shen Qiqi to appear. Why would you think I arranged it? Do you think Cheng Yue likes you so much he would act with Shen Qiqi right in front of you?”

”This...” A calmer Yan Huan realized she indeed made a mistake, she wronged Ji Chuan and quickly apologized, ”I’m sorry! I got too worked up! But, you inviting me to dinner was indeed intentional, right?”

”Yes,” Ji Chuan confessed openly, ”Yan Huan, I’m pursuing you!”

”I...”

”You don’t have to answer me right away. You can keep your thoughts, and you don’t have to accept me, but don’t stop me! I hope I don’t cause you any trouble,” Ji Chuan said.

”Ji Chuan, I’m feeling a bit confused. I know I shouldn’t be telling you this, but right now, besides you, I can’t find anyone else to talk to about it.”

”It’s okay. Tell me, we’re at least friends now. I’m willing to listen to your feelings,” Ji Chuan said generously.

”Tonight, my heart feels uneasy. I’ve just realized how little I know about Cheng Yue! Thinking about his preferences, his past, his family seems so unfamiliar to me. Between him and Shen Qiqi, I’m the one that’s out of place! Ji Chuan, I’m so sad, the gap between us is too big, the distance, the age, we don’t even have a shared past...” Yan Huan became more and more disheartened.

A sense of melancholy rose from the bottom of her heart, enveloping her whole being uncontrollably.

”Yan Huan!” Ji Chuan was silent for a few seconds, then spoke up, ”We can get to know each other, from the start! We still have time! There’s no age gap between us, no distance, while we don’t have a past, we can have a future!”

Yan Huan froze.

For a long time, she couldn’t recover.

Many years later, recalling that night, she had to admit Ji Chuan’s words had brought a deep shock to her.

This kind of shock, she understood much later, is called enlightenment!
