Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2036: Chapter 2029: This Meal Is Impossible to Eat

”Son, eat more! It’s all specially made for you by An Hao! You know how long it’s been since she cooked; for you she’s been busy all day!” Zhang Yun cheerfully served Qin Jian a bowl of lamb soup, ”It’s cold, drink this first to warm up.”

This lamb soup is boiled with lamb bones, seasoned with green onion and ginger and simmered slowly. When served, it’s sprinkled with pepper and cilantro, which removes the gamy taste and adds aroma. Drinking a warm bowl is truly a delight.

Qin Jian lifted the bowl and gulped down half of it, showing a satisfied expression on his face, ”An Hao, how long has it been since I last ate your cooking? I really missed this taste!”

Ning Yibin always praises his daughter-in-law’s culinary skills, ”Excellent! This is as good as the chef from Nanguofeng! If not for An Hao being so busy at work, I’d definitely want to taste her cooking often!”

”Since you’re all saying so, it seems I should cook more often,” An Hao pouted and smiled, inadvertently glancing at her mother-in-law’s face.

She frowned, looking dissatisfied, ”Ungrateful bunch! You always eat my cooking, yet I’ve never heard you praise me!”

”That’s because your cooking is average! If it were better, wouldn’t we praise you?” Ning Yibin added fuel to the fire.

”You! You old fool! Don’t eat my cooking anymore!”

”Why not eat it? When An Hao doesn’t have time, we’ll have to eat your food!”

”Isn’t it not tasty? If it’s not, why do you keep eating it?”

”Bad taste is better than starving, right? Besides, it’s a fact your cooking isn’t great. Since it’s a fact, you should humbly accept it and try to improve!” Ning Yibin began lecturing his wife.

”Hmph! I can’t be bothered with you!”

”You have no case to argue.” Ning Yibin chuckled and finished a sip of lamb soup, pointed to the steamed bun in front of Zhang Yun, ”Give me a bun!”

”Here!” Zhang Yun grumpily picked up a bun and shoved it forcefully into Ning Yibin’s mouth, ”Hurry and shut your mouth!”

The two little ones twisted their heads watching the ’smoke’ at the table, mouths agape, ”Grandma is fierce!”

”Grandma is disrespectful to Grandpa! Don’t learn from her!” Ning Yibin took the chance to use Zhang Yun as a negative example.

”This meal is impossible to eat!” Zhang Yun was so annoyed her chest hurt.

”Mom, Dad is teasing you! Can’t you see the deep affection he has for you?” An Hao laughed, watching the old couple bicker, and quickly stepped in to reconcile.

”Really didn’t see it.” Zhang Yun pouted, ”That’s enough! Let’s stop here for today, let’s eat properly, shall we?”

”Alright!”

The dinner table finally quieted, but unexpectedly there was a knock at the door.

”Who is it? Coming at this hour? Are we not allowed to eat in peace?” Zhang Yun’s temper was still stirred up, causing her words to be somewhat abrasive.

”I’ll go get the door!” An Hao got up to open it and saw standing at the entrance was Commissar Wang from the Commander’s office, accompanied by several strangers in uniform.

During dinner time, Commissar Wang bringing these strangers here was indeed very strange.

”Commissar Wang... What brings you...?”

Commissar Wang was about the same age as Commander Ning Yibin; his hair was graying but his smile was warm and kindly.
