Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1749: Chapter 1948: Delivering the Message

Yan Ye and Dr. Lu were escorted down the mountain, and just as they reached the foot, they ran into a large Liberation truck parked there. Fully armed soldiers jumped off the truck.

The leading man approaching them was Zhao Dong. Seeing Yan Ye and Dr. Lu being brought down, he hurriedly asked, “Why are you coming down? Weren’t there three of you? What about our regiment commander’s wife? She wouldn’t… she wouldn’t have…”

“She just saved the two of us! But she’s still being held hostage by those drug traffickers!” Yan Ye said.

“What?! You two grown men were let go, while she, a woman, is still being held by those bastards?” Zhao Dong instantly lost his composure. “This is bad! If the commander finds out, he’ll be beside himself with worry!”

“We were injured! Taking us along slowed the drug traffickers down! An Hao’s condition is currently okay, but things might not stay that way!” Dr. Lu said guiltily, “It’s our failure, forcing a woman to suffer in our place…”

“No, that’s not what I meant!” Zhao Dong realized his comment was inappropriate. “I’m sorry! If it were me as a drug trafficker, I’d also choose to take someone frail and unable to fight back as a hostage!”

“It’s fine. Whether you say it or not, we already feel deeply guilty,” Dr. Lu sighed.

“Enough talk. Where’s Qin Jian? An Hao saved us so we could deliver a message to Qin Jian to rescue her as soon as possible! She’s waiting for him!” After saying this, Yan Ye explained the situation above.

The commander, upon hearing that his wife was taken hostage by drug traffickers, immediately lost his cool and drove off alone. Right now, we don’t even know where he’s gone,” Zhao Dong said, visibly frustrated. “Whatever, it doesn’t matter! You two get going, we’re heading up the mountain right away! If I run into those traffickers, I swear I’ll shoot every last one of them! Not a single one will escape! I hate armed drug trafficking bastards the most!”

“By the way, there are two people among these traffickers who are somewhat special! One is a young guy named Lin Sheng—I’ve seen him deliver messages for Qin Jian before. The other is a girl named Mu Mian—I’ve seen her at the commander’s house before. On the way, they helped us plan an escape, but unfortunately, it failed!” Yan Ye noted that these two kids didn’t seem completely rotten.

He was worried that if Zhao Dong’s group encountered the traffickers, he might accidentally hurt them.

So Yan Ye voiced his concern beforehand.

“So that little brat Lin Sheng is really mixed up in this, huh? I… I swear, when I see him, I’m going to get to the bottom of this before I deal with him!” Zhao Dong said, gripping his gun angrily before heading up the mountain.

………………………

The drug traffickers weren’t moving quickly along this road. Although the loss of two people made things easier, Mu Qiankun spent the journey making explosives and planting them along critical paths.

This slowed their pace considerably, but it also kept the pursuing forces far behind, fearful and cautious.

The more careful the pursuers were, the more time they could buy.

Mu Qiankun was indeed a crafty old fox!

Mu Mian’s unease grew as she watched her father at work.

She had never realized that her father could be so merciless when handling such matters.

Mu Mian let out a deep sigh, her worry for An Hao growing more intense.
