Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1736: Chapter 1735: A Glimmer of Hope Rising

A small wonton shop, neatly arranged, with only a few diners left at this hour.

Yan Ye chose a seat near the door, where he could watch the passersby on the street and the scenery by the roadside.

”What kind of wontons would you like? We have meat fillings and vegetarian fillings. The meat options include pork and green onion, pork and cabbage, and for vegetarian, there’s carrot and egg...” The shop owner enthusiastically introduced the menu to them.

”Meat, I want meat!” An Hao was immediately drawn to the rich aroma of meat as he entered, and he blurted out his preference without hesitation.

”We’ll all have meat then. Three servings!” Doctor Lu raised three fingers as he spoke.

”Got it!” The owner cheerfully went to prepare the order.

Before long, he brought out the wontons. The steaming bowl filled the air with its enticing fragrance, making An Hao feel like he could swallow his own tongue in anticipation.

Unable to hold back, she quickly tasted one and gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up, repeatedly praising, ”This tastes amazing! Really fantastic!”

The shop owner beamed with delight at the compliment. ”Young lady, to tell you the truth, by this hour, most restaurants in this small town are closed. Only my wonton shop still has some customers! I guess everyone approves of my cooking skills, right?”

”Top-notch skills! Perfect, no complaints!” Doctor Lu also found the flavor to be excellent.

”Great, eat as much as you like! If you need more soup, just ask—there’s no extra charge for it,” the owner said with a broad smile.

”Alright, sounds good!”

The three of them buried their heads in their bowls, savoring the delicious wontons, occasionally glancing outside the shop.

Mu Qiankun and his group had disguised themselves. Some carried small baskets on their backs, making them look like villagers heading home late at night after shopping in the city. They walked in clusters of three to five, keeping a measured distance from one another as they moved down the street.

Once they crossed this street and walked a bit further, they would leave the small town and head toward the dense and remote mountain forest. Once they entered the forest, their safety would increase significantly.

Mu Mian and Lin Sheng both understood that if they could escape on this street, their chances of success would be much greater.

They scanned their surroundings carefully. Finally, Mu Mian’s gaze landed on the wonton shop that was still lit so late at night. Through the doorway, she noticed there were quite a few people eating inside.

Most importantly, three people in white coats were seated inside. Their pants appeared to be green. Her heart suddenly surged with a flicker of hope—military doctors!

Mu Mian deliberately grabbed Lin Sheng’s hand and slowed down their pace, trying to increase the distance between them and the group.

Sure enough, the tactic worked.

Everyone was so focused on leaving the area that they paid little attention to Mu Mian and Lin Sheng.

Seizing the moment, Mu Mian quietly pulled Lin Sheng and quickly made their way toward the wonton shop across the street.

Just as they were about to enter, a voice called out from behind them, sharp and abrupt: ”Wait a minute! Where are you two going?”

Lin Sheng froze the moment he heard the voice, his heart jolting violently. His hand instinctively moved toward his waist.

Mu Mian nearly broke out into a cold sweat from Lin Sheng’s action. She quickly grabbed his hand tightly, signaling with her eyes: Don’t! Don’t! The moment you fire the gun, they’ll definitely kill you!

As Lin Sheng hesitated, Mu Mian spoke up, ”I’m really thirsty. I just wanted to go in and ask for a bowl of water!”
