Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1732: Chapter 1731: It’s All Destiny!

The Rat’s words reminded Mu Qiankun: ”We should only use this method as an absolute last resort!”

Thinking back to what happened a couple of years ago, Mu Qiankun still felt a lingering fear.

If it hadn’t been for that incident, Mu Qiankun wouldn’t be living like a rat, hiding and sneaking around!

”Brother Kun, we’re already at the point of no return!” The Rat said, ”Look at the police and military, they’re conducting a full-scale sweep together! I doubt we’ll be able to slip through.”

”Fuck! This is all that Big Guy’s fault! What was supposed to be a clean operation got ruined because of him! Now, great, no money made, and we can’t even get away!” Lao Si (Fourth Brother) fumed as he brought it up.

Big Guy flared up hearing this. He rolled up his sleeves, ready to throw down with Lao Si, but Mu Qiankun’s voice cut through: ”This mess is on all of us! First of all, the timing was terrible—who could’ve guessed we’d clash with a military exercise? And didn’t I say at the time that we should wait until after it was over? What happened then? You all got so greedy that you didn’t care about the risks! And now look at us—when the shit hits the fan, all you do is turn on each other!”

”How could we have known? We’re all pros at running this stuff; we’ve been butting heads with the cops for two years, playing cat-and-mouse. We figured, what, it’s just a military drill, right? The forest’s big—what are the odds? And even if we did run into a few, so what? We’ve got the real firepower. They using blanks or what? What’s there to be afraid of?”

”Enough! Everyone shut the hell up!” Mu Qiankun snapped, irritated. ”Lao Si, send some of your new guys out to see how far along the police are with their search.”

”Alright!” Lao Si called in two of the newer lackeys and sent them off to gather intel.

”Let’s hurry up and eat. We’ll figure out our next move after dinner,” The Rat said, motioning for everyone to come to the table.

”You all eat. I’m stepping out for some air,” Mu Qiankun said with a frown and walked out.

The house they were using was a decent size. When they first arrived in this county, Mu Qiankun had sent Mu Mian to secure the property under the guise of starting a fabric business. They even bought a load of random textiles and piled them up in the house for cover.

The building’s layout was simple. Just inside the front gate was a small courtyard. On the east and west sides were two wings, while directly north was the main building, consisting of a living room and three bedrooms.

The group of drug dealers all lived here on a day-to-day basis.

However, they were exceptionally cautious—they never all entered or left the house together.

Because of this, the locals barely noticed them.

Mu Qiankun rarely left this place. He holed himself up in the house as much as possible, avoiding any exposure. After all, a few years back, he’d narrowly escaped disaster here.

So now that he was back, he exercised extreme caution.

But who would’ve thought that internal strife would destroy his plan? Now, even leaving this place was a near-impossible task.

Mu Qiankun smoked as he paced back and forth, trying to ease his growing anxiety.

In the east wing, Mu Mian leaned against the window and glanced at Mu Qiankun. Through clenched teeth, he spat out a sentence: ”Serves you right! It’s fate! No matter how far you go, you can’t escape it!”

Lin Sheng was eating out of a bowl when he heard Mu Mian’s words. He looked up and asked, ”What do you mean, no matter how far you go, you can’t escape it?”

”You really don’t know?” Mu Mian asked, fixing his gaze on Lin Sheng.

Lin Sheng shook his head blankly. ”I don’t know what you’re referring to.”
