Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1734: Chapter 1733: Success or Failure Lies in Tonight!

”Alright. I’ll listen to you!” Mu Mian stopped crying and said, ”They will definitely not hurt me, but they’ll use you to threaten me! I’m really scared, scared that if I make a reckless move, it’ll harm you!”

”It’s okay! Don’t be afraid! If I’m not scared, why should you be? Just remember, the two of us stick together, find an opportunity to escape, and then call the police!” Lin Sheng said tightly gripping Mu Mian’s hand.

”Okay.” Mu Mian felt a steady warmth pouring into her palm, warming her heart, ”This time, I absolutely won’t back down!”

...........................

An entire day of tension.

By evening, two of Lao Si’s men brought back valuable intel — the police and military have a photo of Lao Si.

He’s being hunted across the entire city.

This means Lao Si has been exposed, and sticking with him poses serious danger.

Another piece of intel stated that two military exercise teams had been deployed. One of them was already retreating from the exercise zone, leaving only one team remaining — definitely good news for the drug traffickers.

”Anything else?” Mu Qiankun asked. For now, their situation didn’t seem to be the worst.

”Yes. The small county town is under complete lockdown. Leaving anytime soon isn’t possible.”

Mu Qiankun nodded, then turned to Mouse. ”What do you think? Your head works the sharpest, and you’re always the quickest to react. Analyze what our next step should be.”

Mouse scratched his chin, pondering for a while before speaking, ”Right now, we only have two options: either leave the town or head further toward the border.”

”That’s obvious! Who doesn’t know that?” The Big Guy scoffed, thinking Mouse was wasting time. ”Could you maybe say something useful?”

”During the last drug deal, Kun Ge’s incident was all over the place. I think leaving town won’t be easy now. The anti-drug unit doesn’t have Kun Ge’s photo, but they definitely know his face. As for us, we were all registered here last time. If Kun Ge gets recognized, we likely won’t escape either...”

”I think so too. Those anti-drug guys have eyes like X-rays and noses as sharp as dogs’. If we try to leave the town and get stopped, I won’t hold up under scrutiny,” one of Lao Si’s men said.

”So, at this point, we really have only one path left. Instead of heading into the city, let’s escape toward the dense forest near the border! We could even hide out there for a while. We just need to endure a few days. I honestly don’t believe those soldiers will stay stationed here for a month or two without leaving,” Mouse analyzed.

”Alright! I agree!”

”The forest has lots of places for cover too!”

”Exactly!”

Seeing everyone agree, Mu Qiankun made his decision: ”Alright! We’ll follow Mouse’s plan and head toward the dense forest by the border! But shouldn’t we create some kind of diversion?”

”Of course! Kun Ge, taking advantage of tonight’s heavy darkness, we’ll disguise ourselves and set out! This time, we must be extremely cautious!”

”Understood. Success or failure lies in tonight!” Mu Qiankun declared. ”Let’s get moving now!”

The path toward the border’s dense forest isn’t singular. One wide, straight road has been blocked — it’s within the military exercise zone, making passage nearly impossible.
