Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1695: Chapter 1695: Picking Up the Scalpel Again

An Hao joined the exam on the very day she reported to the hospital. In fact, if she were directly assigned, An Hao could have gotten a decent placement too, since she is the Commander’s daughter-in-law.

The relationships within the military are all interconnected; the leaders are well aware of who’s related to whom in their families.

However, An Hao still hoped to stay at the affiliated hospital.

She was familiar with the hospital and really liked its environment and atmosphere. The key point was that it was close to home, and if both spouses were soldiers, one of them had to take care of home, right?

Needless to say, An Hao ended up staying and working at the affiliated hospital as a result of the exam.

But before entering the Cardiac Surgery department, An Hao needed to spend a year or so in General Surgery to become accustomed to everything she had to learn before moving on to Cardiac Surgery.

Ji Chuan took a liking to An Hao, and actually, he had always wanted to keep her in General Surgery. Cultivating such an assistant would save a lot of time in future surgeries and help solve many problems together.

If one day An Hao could stand on her own, Ji Chuan was very willing to see her become a leading surgeon. This way, his department would gain another elite, and his own workload would be much lighter.

So, after An Hao had followed a few surgeries in the hospital, Ji Chuan gave her an operation to do on her own while he assisted.

After more than two years without holding a surgical scalpel, An Hao felt quite nervous; when she stepped into the operating theatre, Ji Chuan, noticing her tension, joked to help her relax: ”Is it necessary? It’s just a surgery, isn’t it? For you, this is almost like playing, right?”

”You make it sound so easy. Do you have any idea how nervous I am right now?”

”What’s there to fear? Do you remember everything I taught you?”

”Yeah.” An Hao nodded.

”That’s all you need. Your professional knowledge is still there; what you lack now is confidence. Did giving birth make you foolish? Or did it take away your courage? With me, Ji Yidao, assisting you, what’s there to fear? Go ahead and make the incision with confidence!”

”Yeah. Dr. An, you’re really lucky to have Director Ji assisting you. I reckon you’re the first one!” said the second assistant surgeon participating in the operation.

”Alright.” An Hao took a deep breath, ”Then let’s begin!”

”That’s the spirit! This is just like playing for you!” Ji Chuan smiled, his gaze beginning to focus on An Hao’s hands.

To speak of courage, there truly aren’t many who could outdo Ji Chuan.

If the patient knew that their surgeon was an intern who hadn’t touched a surgical scalpel in two years, they would probably die of fright on the operating table.

Surgery is a very delicate manual task.

If one’s hands are not steady, many troubles can arise.

If a blood vessel was accidentally cut, that’s still okay; it can be stitched and repaired. But if one carelessly severed a patient’s nerve, that would be...

Two years had passed, and to say her hands were not rusty would be a lie.

The smooth surgical movements that An Hao had two years ago were no longer there; her actions were slow now, and her incisions hesitated.

”Dr. An, you need to speed up. If it goes on like this, you won’t finish the surgery before the patient wakes up. He’s already at the maximum dosage of anesthesia. Exceeding this amount could lead to life-threatening risks...” As Ji Chuan focused on An Hao’s hands, he was calculating in his mind how fast he could complete the remaining surgery himself.
