Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1689: Chapter 1689: There’s Always Someone Better

”Oh? Is this Commander Qin really that extraordinary?” Hou Zicheng asked in surprise.

”Yes! He has a resounding nickname. He’s hailed as the legend of the Northern Military Region by the warriors in the forces,” Guan Qing sighed softly, turning her gaze toward Hen Zhiyuan beside her.

He was originally ordering food, but when he heard what Guan Qing said, his hand holding the menu trembled.

”So what’s this glory you’re talking about?” Hou Zicheng asked curiously.

”Do you know how many military merits he’s earned these past years?”

Owner Hou shook his head: ”How would I know that? I’m not a military man. But looking at his young age, what kind of military merits could he have?”

”A lot. In the annual military region combat competitions, he’s always among the top performers. He’s gotten so many awards that it’s been a handful. And during military drills, many of the strategies and tactics on their side are formulated by him!”

”So the result is always his victory, right?”

Guan Qing nodded, her eyes growing somewhat hazy: ”There are some people, and some things, can you really not admit that they are better than you? The so-called ’there’s always a higher mountain’... You think you’re strong, but in fact, there’s always someone stronger.”

”Hehe.” Owner Hou laughed dryly for a bit, ”Is Boss Guan reminiscing about her own past?”

”Yes.” Guan Qing’s gaze swept through Nanguofeng again and again, ”Two months ago, this place still belonged to me. I’ve managed Nanguofeng with so much effort for so long, and in just two short months, there’s been a change of ruler.”

”Not reconciled?” Hou Zicheng asked.

”My mood has calmed down a lot now. Admitting that your opponent is stronger than you is not such a shameful thing.” Guan Qing had also undergone two months of psychological self-healing, gradually understanding these things.

All the unhappiness before, she had discarded them.

This incident was an irreversible mistake she made herself.

Though heartbroken, there was nothing she could do.

But at least she had tried to step out of it, otherwise, she wouldn’t have come to Nanguofeng for this meal today.

But what worried Guan Qing was Hen Zhiyuan beside her, who seemed unable to extricate himself from the matter of being discharged from the military.

However, compared to the beginning, he is much better now.

Guan Qing hoped that he would also be able to step out soon and start a different life with her.

”So what do you mean by saying that Commander Qin is about to embrace another moment of glory in his life?” Owner Hou continued to inquire.

”Why? Owner Hou, a businessman, is interested in such matters?” Guan Qing looked at him with a raised corner of her mouth.

”I’m not interested in such matters. I’m interested in the man,” Hou Zicheng said as he lit a cigarette and smoked.

”I’ve always been a bit puzzled. You, a businessman, why do you always like to associate with military people. Why is that?” Guan Qing eyed him.

”Just a hobby, purely a hobby,” Owner Hou laughed.

”That’s a quite unique hobby, isn’t it? Even if you’re getting close to military people, you couldn’t possibly enlist again, right?”

”That’s just a dream. When you’re young and you miss it, it’s counted as missed,” Hou Zicheng couldn’t help but sigh, ”It’s too late for you to enlist now. People always have too many compulsions.”

”I don’t believe that when you say it,” Guan Qing shook her head, her gaze scanning Hou Zicheng up and down like x-ray, making him feel somewhat uneasy inside.

”What’s the matter? Why are you looking at me with that kind of look?” Hou Zicheng said, slightly unnaturally.
