Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1677: Chapter 1678: The Torture of the Soul

”How long before Mu Mian can return this week?” An Hao asked.

”One week is more than enough.”

...............

After spending a night outside, Mu Mian hurried back to Dongshan Village the next day. As she approached her family’s front door, she heard voices from inside.

Her face darkened, and with a lift of her foot, she kicked the door open.

As expected, there were quite a few people at home.

Besides her father, the group that had stopped her yesterday at the vegetable market was all there.

And there was Lin Sheng, slumped listlessly in their midst, saying nothing at all.

”Quite a crowd we have here,” Mu Mian said coldly to Mu Qiankun, ”Is there any point to these tricks you’re playing? What exactly do you want to do? Are you satisfied only if you ruin mine and Lin Sheng’s lives?”

”Mu Mian, is this how you speak to me?” Mu Qiankun glared at his daughter. ”Is this how you rebel against me now that you’ve grown up and think you’re tough?”

”I’m not going to say much to you! There’s nothing left to say between us,” Mu Mian moved forward, grabbed Lin Sheng’s hand, and hurried towards the door.

”Mianmian!” The tall man intervened, blocking her, ”Don’t upset your father! He’s really been seriously injured, you can check for yourself if you don’t believe it.”

Just as the man finished speaking, Mu Qiankun reached out and tore open his clothes.

Sure enough, there was a hole in his chest where a bullet had passed through. The wound had already scabbed over and seemed close to healing, far from the life-threatening condition the tall man had suggested.

After seeing this, Mu Mian couldn’t help but sneer, ”Why don’t you just die then?”

”You actually want me dead? Mu Mian, all these years of raising you were a waste,” Mu Qiankun said, heart wrenched by his daughter’s words.

”That’d be better than you going around causing so much harm!” Mu Mian grew angry, her voice suddenly rising sharply.

”Who have I harmed? It’s a business of willing buyer willing seller. I didn’t force them to buy!” Mu Qiankun justified himself confidently.

”You’re breaking the law. I’ve been investigating these past days, and for this, you could be executed!” Mu Mian shouted agitatedly, ”Is it worth it, all for some money? Have you forgotten how mom died? You promised her you wouldn’t do this anymore, how can you so blatantly go back on your word?”

His deceased wife came to mind, and Mu Qiankun fell silent for a while.

Back then, she too was drawn onto this path, and she tried to use her death to bring back his conscience.

At first, he did suffer for a while.

But the allure of profit was much stronger than his conscience.

So, after a lengthy period of silence, he still couldn’t resist the temptation and returned to his old ways.

”Enough, no more talk! I haven’t even discussed the foolish thing you did,”

he said angrily, ”Did you think you could hide Lin Sheng in the military without telling me and I wouldn’t find you? Even if you went to the ends of the earth, I’d still find you.”

Seeing her father so entrenched in his ways, beyond redemption, Mu Mian gave up on persuading him.

”Do whatever you want, but please give Lin Sheng back to me!”

”That’s impossible.” Standing on the opposite side of Mu Qiankun, how could he bear the thought of one day facing the barrel of a gun pointed at his head by Lin Sheng?

Moreover, he found Lin Sheng to be a shrewd kid, so he wanted to bring him into the fold as well.

”Mu Qiankun!” Mu Mian suddenly shouted as if mad, ”Do you really want the whole family to become drug dealers?!!!”
